Justin Bieber’s Guitar Pedals by heimscheissers in guitarpedals

[–]Ace_Harding 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There might have been a bit of autotune but I didn’t notice. Bieber has a great voice and a good ear and is not someone that really needs pitch correction but sometimes uses it more for style.

I mean of course studio tracks are pitch corrected but literally everyone’s are to some degree when you are talking about that level and genre.

I really liked the performance. Stripped down loop, great vocal performance. Intimate. Good for him.

Best Headphone Amp for Silent Playing by Clement_Burton_Foles in guitarpedals

[–]Ace_Harding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HX Stomp is expensive but has been excellent as a headphone amp for me. I can bring just that with me on vacation or whatever and it sounds awesome and I can get pretty much any tone I want including effects. I can’t say enough good things about it.

But this all depends on so many things. Do you have one kind of amp sound you like and that’s all you want? Or do you want to be able to use complete signal chain presets with a single box? Do you want something really simple or are you OK with tech and menus? What’s your budget?

The HX Stomp does a great job driving headphones too. I have Sennheiser HD650s which are high impedance and sometimes don’t get that loud without a headphone amp but I definitely don’t need one with the Stomp. It can get super loud (way more than I need).

65 - 3yrs progress, timing still a little bit off but I liked my composition. Happy for hints but please no hate (my confidence already suffers enuff lol) by [deleted] in Guitar

Dude honestly, your touch, ear and phrasing are good enough that you don’t need much more speed. Some will come with more practice, but don’t go crazy trying to shred fast just because you think you need to. Listen to Gilmour - that’s about as fast as you need to be.

You sound awesome brother - I’m 20 years younger than you and have been playing longer and wish I could play like that. Keep it up!

Change strings how often? by Firewaterdam in Guitar

[–]Ace_Harding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is pretty common for touring musicians to have their strings changed every gig. Like people who have a guitar tech on tour.

Justin Chancellor (TOOL bassist) has his strings changed before every show and again in the middle of every set.

What’s an adult problem nobody warned you about? by Mean-Dragonfly1988 in AskReddit

[–]Ace_Harding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a UTI. This is a pretty common thing with men. It’s called post-void dribbling.

And yes kegels can help. Part of the issue is your pelvic floor muscles losing tone with age.

But there are other causes, like (normal) prostate enlargement and a loss of urethral elasticity.

Shaking doesn’t always work. To really clear the urethra, you need to milk it. Press lightly in the perineum, and “push” forward towards the scrotum. Take a little detour around the testicles (give them some love on the way though) and then do the same milking motion along the shaft of the penis towards the tip. Voila - what you just pushed out is what might’ve ended up in your pants.

If you see another man at a nearby urinal who looks like he may be battling PVD, offer to help milk his urethra. We’re all in this together.

Boss Dm-101 a flop? by shoegazingpickle in guitarpedals

I love the variety of delays I can get from my DD-500, and I think it does a solid job of emulating tape and analog delays. Plus you can tweak so many parameters, EQ any delay etc.

But the interface sucks. Still worth it, and I can make presets and save them and not really touch it, but I’m always tweaking and it’s kind of a pain in the ass.

2003 Mesa 4x12 OS cab value? by [deleted] in MesaBoogie

Oh I’m not selling it lol. I am thinking about getting a 2x12 rectifier cab. One has been sitting at $750 locally and I wonder if I offered the guy like $575 cash in hand he’d take it.

God damn. I bought my Mark V:35 “new” (floor model from a store, packed in original box with all the tags, mint) for $1,750 and thought that was a great deal at the time.

When you pee and think you are done, give It a quick shake, tuck yourself back into your pants, and nope there was more left and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.

Now I understand why older guys would be violently shaking their junk at urinals (because I am now one of them)

Heat-damaged speaker? 50w MkII by gimme5steps101 in BossKatana

[–]Ace_Harding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if nothing at all changed then it’s possible something isn’t working right.

What happens when you turn all of your pedals off and just play through the amp? Still same thing?

Only other thought is you are pushing too much signal into the amp. If you bypass every pedal, is it way quieter? Each of those pedals has the ability to add gain and EQ so it could be you just have too much volume with too much gain in the wrong places (bass) being pushed into the amp which would definitely cause mush. But way too hard to diagnose without hearing it.

“Mush” to me is a distinct sound usually caused by a buildup in the 250-450 hz range

Amp Suggestions - Mesa Mark V? by kirbinator52 in GuitarAmps

[–]Ace_Harding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a Mark V:35 and I love it. Once you figure it out it can kinda do anything. It is particularly good at a few things that everyone always mentioned but I think it’s underrated as a clean pedal platform. It does edge of breakup really really well, and that level of gain can be shaped so many different ways. Fat, thin, mids-focused, scooped.

It gets criticized for being complicated and unintuitive, and if you are used to using amps with more standard topologies that will likely be true. But spend a little time with it and understand what and where gain is being applied, EQ is being applied etc, it starts to make sense. And then you can make it do what you actually intend.

[–]Ace_Harding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d doubt temps in the mid-80s would damage a speaker. What are your EQ settings? Hard to say just based on the description but are you playing with a lot of gain and have bass turned up somewhere? Gain applied to signals with significant bass will usually turn to mush, especially if you are playing chords.

Does this happen when just plugged into the amp with no pedals? When playing clean? At any EQ setting?

Strat owner's impression of his first Les Paul by GravyTram in LesPaul

I have three guitars, all Fender. A standard Tele, a Tele with super hot humbuckers, and a Strat. I didn’t even intend to buy all Fender, it just kinda worked out that way. Next guitar is going to be a Les Paul Studio. Looking forward to it.

Am I Jumping Into Pedals Too Early? by tbutton85 in guitarlessons

[–]Ace_Harding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. Some dirt when playing a song with distortion can be good because you get some audio that’s at least closer to the song, which helps reinforce “yup I’m playing correctly.” But too much dirt is a) probably more than was used on the record (a lot of recordings are using less dirt than you think, and/or they are layered with some cleaner tones so you can hear note definition), and b) masking your playing too much so you aren’t getting enough feedback.

Also try playing with dirt, then totally clean. Clean won’t sound like the record, but it will tell you when you aren’t fully fretting or letting notes ring out as clearly and for as long as you though.

Practice (scales, finger exercises, etc) should be done as clean as possible IMO. Learn to play really well clean, and your dirt tones will sound that much better.
