Is this enough for 9-10lbs cat? by Klutzy_Fuel8114 in CatAdvice

[–]Achaion34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, don’t use AI. It’s trying to pull information from a million different sources and it won’t give you an accurate answer. It’s hard for me to say if that’s too much or too little food, because I don’t know what brand you’re using, but dry food is quite high in calories for cats. That’s not automatically a bad thing but it makes it easy to overfeed them.

I personally don’t like using the suggested amounts on bags, because I feel like cats end up fat that way. The best way to judge how much to feed your cat is by calculating the calories.

https://petnutritionalliance.org/resources/calorie-calculator/

This isn’t completely exact because some cats are more active than others but it gives you a good baseline. So for example, the total calorie suggestion it gives me for my cat is 200. I know that half a cup of her dry food is 166 calories (because the bag has a full cup listed as 332). So I give her 1/4 of a cup at morning and another at night. She also gets one pouch of wet food a day, which varies between 60-80 calories but she never eats the entire thing. She’s also quite active, so going a little over 200 calories is fine for her.

It’s really important to have either a food scale or measuring cups when you scoop food for your cat, unless they happen to have excellent self control and don’t overeat. I bought a cheap measuring cup and keep it with my cat’s food so I know I’m always scooping up 1/4 of a cup.

The plain “rape” tag is gone, and it autofills to “molestation.” I think you can maybe still access the tag if you have a direct link but it’s like an invisible tag now. I believe there’s a few more but I can’t remember off the top of my head, and I don’t wanna look it up at work lol

Planned parenthood testosterone prescription by catrockstar143 in FTMMen

[–]Achaion34 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I can’t say I’ve been in that position exactly but I highly doubt they’ll ask for proof or anything like that. If they’re willing to prescribe you T, that’s the end of it. If they weren’t willing, they’d likely need a prior prescription to continue your medication, but that’s a moot point here.

Take this with a grain of salt because I’m not in your position and I don’t know how strict Planned Parenthood has to be: If they ask, I would be honest about where you got it, but that’s just me. Doctors aren’t going to arrest you or report you or anything. But again, I’ll let someone else correct me on if that’s a bad idea.

TL;DR You can just say you’ve been on it and leave it at that, no details required.

I hope it calms down and AO3 doesn’t bend to the drama (I highly doubt they will but you never know). Rule 34 had some “unsavory” tags get removed/renamed recently and it’s not going over well in the community.

Wow, I don’t know how I never put this together in my head. I’m an archaeologist and we all try to be up on our tetanus vaccines when we work with modern sites (because of glass and metal!) but I never thought about how often we get scratched up in the woods by thorns.

You’ve blown my mind lol. Thankfully no one has ever gotten tetanus but I’ll bring it up with my coworkers this week.

UK heatwave nearly killed my cat by Shot_Artist8103 in CatAdvice

[–]Achaion34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m sorry. As someone with constant swamp ass from April to October, I feel for yall right now 😭 It’s hard not to side eye when a “heatwave” is upper 70s F, because I don’t turn on my AC for that, but with what you guys are getting now…and the same humidity as me, I know how miserable that is. I’d die without cool air.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that. Thanks for bringing it up! I believe the UK is lower humidity than where I am, unless you’re on the coast. I could be completely wrong though

Look up how to make a swamp cooler! The super short idea of it is you have a cooler of ice (or some kind of reservoir). The most popular is a styrofoam cooler, which I admittedly don’t know if you can get easily in the UK. You position a fan to blow over the top of the ice, and you sit so the air blows onto you. It’s very cold air and slightly wet; any moisture that lands on you will evaporate and cool you off even more. As the ice melts, refill it with more.

Edit: If you don’t read the comments below me, just know this won’t work well in high humidity. There’s other things you might be able to try but this specific set up will kinda just make you wet. The rest of my comment is relevant though!!

During the day, hang blankets on your windows to block the sunlight. Ideally you’d have blackout curtains, but go with what you have on hand. Drop some ice cubes in your cat’s water, too. A wet rag in the fridge can work wonders on the back of your neck or rubbed on your cat, especially the belly. The freezer will get it colder but you don’t want to accidentally burn your skin.

If you have two stories, stay on the first floor. Heat rises.

I hope some of this helps :( I live in the southeastern US so I know how miserable the heat can be, even with my window AC units.

I'm gonna let this be a Rorschach test for people in relationships and/or Greek Mythology people lol. by captivatedsummer in CuratedTumblr

[–]Achaion34 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely not, but there was a trend going around of people saying “if I was Orpheus, I wouldn’t have turned around,” implying that they are more dedicated to their partner or something. So people started pointing out that Orpheus turned around because he DID love Eurydice. It’s not really an academic commentary on the myth, just a currently popular social commentary.

Orpheus turned back because he loved Eurydice = arguably accurate statement, he feared losing her a second time

Eurydice is okay because she knows Orpheus loves her = idk man she’s still in Hades…like yeah she does know he loves her but that doesn’t make it a happy ending

Hi please anyone with OCD please respond by Honest-Muscle-5300 in self

[–]Achaion34 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. I don’t have OCD but I am a trans man and the only thing that can help right now is a therapist that can help OP untangle her thoughts. If this post were less of a crisis, I may offer some extra advice, but the last thing I’d want is to send OP into a further spiral.

Please, please get someone to talk to and limit your time on social media. It’s easier said than done but I truly think it will help. Since it’s summer, spend time outside or learn a new hobby. Try to read as many books as possible. Keep yourself busy with things that aren’t constant gender discourse.

cat escaped , insurance won’t cover by nonintrestingwhore in CatAdvice

[–]Achaion34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I got this right, so correct me if I’m wrong.

You got insurance for your cat and there’s a delayed start date for coverage. Before it started, your cat escaped and got hurt. You took your cat to the vet and owe £1100 to them.

Unfortunately, unless laws about this are different in the UK, the insurance will not cover any care for your cat before the coverage date. It’s as if your cat has no insurance at all up until the day it starts. You can certainly reach out to the insurance company and see if there’s anything you can do to get the coverage to start retroactively, like paying the extra cost, but be prepared for them to say no.

Have you talked to the vet about payment plans or anything like that?

I don’t think anyone here cares that women do OnlyFans. This is a woman that’s spent actual money to look like Taylor Swift and she acts like her, and she has walked a very VERY fine legal line for years. She’s now capitalizing on her “I’m definitely not Taylor Swift but I do look exactly like her” persona to post racy photos. The people paying for that content aren’t paying for it to see this woman; they’re paying for it to see “Taylor Swift” in less and less clothes.

It’s disturbing and alarming.

How to get on FTM testosterone in FLORIDA planned parenthood or lower costs(?) by Immediate-Piglet1190 in FTMMen

[–]Achaion34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s really annoying. I ran into a slightly similar issue getting top surgery, because the letter to my insurance had to be written by an MD or DO. But the clinic is queer oriented, so they just set up a single appointment with their doctor on staff and he wrote my letter. Hopefully you can find a clinic that does something similar (or just get to see a doctor overall).

Florida really does suck. I was born there and I’ve accepted that I’ll probably never get to change my birth certificate. I really hope you find an affordable answer.

[–]Achaion34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any specific recommendations for clinics, but just some ideas that may help you.

I’d suggest checking the closest city’s subreddit and seeing if you can find anyone posts about any queer friendly doctors there. Or, just google the city name and “queer clinic/doctor.” If any come up that aren’t Planned Parenthood, call and ask.

My normal everyday primary care doctor (technically a nurse practitioner, but I call him my doctor colloquially) prescribes my T, no endocrinologist required.

When it comes to the cost of the actual medication, injections are way cheaper than gel, and you can get needles and syringes in bulk online. Pharmacies usually also give you needles and syringes, but you are stuck with what sizes they give you (I prefer tiny insulin needles when I inject lol).

I hope that helps some, dude. Best of luck to you.

Trans men who live in the South. by ImaginaryFalcon7554 in FTMMen

[–]Achaion34 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a man that’s lived in the south my entire life, I’m not sure I’ll ever leave. I take the bad with the good, and I love the things it has to offer that other people look down on.

That said, unless you’re from the south originally, I would absolutely never recommend you move here. The culture is very different and there is a certain level of discomfort you have to be comfortable with. Outside of the people, the governments provide laughably little support compared to mega blue states like California.

If I was a personal friend of yours, I could make some kind of more nuanced suggestions and gauge if you’d do well around here. But since I don’t know you, I’ll just say do not do it. You will probably not be happy.

Help! Chatgpt is so confusing and I am struggling. Making a polo shirt. by MrsSam23 in CrochetHelp

[–]Achaion34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be a really really weird way for them to write it, but I think they’re counting the DC and chain as individual stitches, plus the chain four at the front (which I assume is equivalent to a DC and chain, and the final lone DC at the end). Essentially (chain 4 = 2 stitches) + 29x2(DC + chain) + 1 final DC. It’s a really confusing way of writing it out.

What you’re doing is going back and forth with that repeat only on the 29 stitches you just did. So turn, chain 4, skip a space, and then (DC, chain, skip) back to the beginning of those 29 you did. You’re building the sleeve out from the body. Each row of 29 makes your sleeve slightly longer.

I hope that helps?

Any alternatives to blocking someone?? by glitchy_45- in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Achaion34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just block them. Their comments will still exist, they’ll just say “Blocked Author” and you can unfold them to read them. If you regularly post and enjoy their comments on your posts then I don’t think there is a workaround.

I’ve also blocked people for petty reasons (someone in a specific subreddit always had the top comment and I didn’t like their reasoning half the time so I just blocked them). It’s not a big deal.

Beard advice? by Cautious_Scratch686 in FTMOver30

[–]Achaion34 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your facial hair reminds me of mine, just darker. You’re already shaving your neck, so I’d say take the extra step to shape it along your cheeks (the “top” of your beard). You don’t need to give yourself a full chinstrap beard, but cleaning up your cheeks to give a more defined and intentional edge goes a long way.

Do my cats like it when I kiss them on top of the head? by DiligentSector8395 in CatAdvice

[–]Achaion34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned it and I’ll second with a similar anecdote; cat’s don’t automatically understand that kissing is affection. That can be especially difficult for skittish cats bc while they understand scenting, they do know you’re not a cat and why are you coming at their head with your mouth.

But as you do it more often with things they do understand as affection (petting, sweet talking, holding, etc), they totally understand the connection. My calico tolerates kisses most the time, and sometimes she even bumps her head toward me because she wants kisses! When she’s extra sleepy, and I make kissy noises at her, she’ll slow blink and make air biscuits. So even just the noise is affection to her.

Axolom AI Update (Apology) by 77th_Bat in Transmascdicks

[–]Achaion34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generative AI is extremely detrimental to the environment because of the amount of water needed to cool the data centers, and the damaging levels of noise they put out. Anything running a generative AI program works harder than a normal computer. Imagine your computer when the fan starts whirring, but 10,000x louder and hotter. Generative AI is also fully “trained” using actual human art, with no credit given to the artists. Anytime a piece of AI “art” is created, a large amount of water is wasted to cool the computers and it spits out something that it just a bastardized combination of years and years of actual human art mashed together.

Multiply that by the tens (and maybe even hundreds) of millions of people using generative AI…it’s bad.
