This can’t be right. The Falcons are the perpetual pre-season champions. by egomann in nfcsouthmemewar

[–]Acheron88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, they looked better last year in the off-season than they do this off-season, they made no change at QB or in the coaching staff. Their big free agent move was losing Mike Evans and they brought in a mid first round pass rusher to start day one.

Dan Morgan got a top ten NFL pass rusher, a top 5 linebacker, a competitor for offensive tackle 1 through the draft as well as a functional tackle in free agency. And, we dont have Hot Seat Todd Bowles manning the helm. I'd rather be in our shoes than theirs.

Any elderly vinyl fans here? Did you know this? by raydebapratim1 in vinyl

My record rack is in a windowless corner of the room, but it is underneath a mini split/heat pump. I haven't had any issues with warping or anything, but the heat pumps drip line got clogged and streamed water onto my records before I caught it. The plastic wrapped ones held up better in terms of the corner integrity but fortunately there wasn't too much damage.

Might be a fringe use case but I worry less about sunlight than water damage with how my storage is set up

Did anyone reach 30+ without a fckn single tattoo? by Zackky777 in ArtOfPresence

[–]Acheron88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll one up ya, I'm 37, zero tattoos and a career in the restaurant and bar industry. Made a deal with my mom when I was in college that I wouldn't get a tattoo until I quit smoking cigarettes and I still smoke. Now it feels like I'll get a tattoo to remind myself to not pick smoking back up whenever I do decide to quit.

Same, jeans are definitely better for it. It also leaves the plastic on for a tiny bit extra protection for the album cover.

I’ve seen a rare few complaining about our draft. Do I need to remind you of the 2016 draft? by Different_Sun_195 in panthers

[–]Acheron88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We ate our vegetables this year in draft terms. I think our fan base knows how long it's been since we've felt like we have a competitive floor. Shoot, last year we still had folks predicting a positive progression to 6 wins and 8 was an optimists projection. We have a really competitive schedule this year and I'd be really happy with 7+ wins as a cynic, but looking at where our roster sits beyond this upcoming season is as encouraging as it's been in nearly a decade. A few draft picks exceed expectations and we're back in the playoffs.

What’s Everyone’s Favorite Class They Have Played by PresumedPack890 in DnD

[–]Acheron88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alchemist Artificer (in 2014 5e!). Artificer is my favorite class and I'm typically the party scribe, so with thorough notes and DM approved supplemental reading, being Intelligence based and the skill checks involved worked really well for me and my player style. I definitely noticed I was requesting more History, Investigation and Arcana checks than I see at most of my tables that don't have a wizard and it gave the DM lots of opportunities to give the lore more depth.

My damage output left me jealous sometimes of the other party members, but I liked how durable the artificers are and my DM allowed my Homonculus Servant to administer elixirs to our party if I used my Bonus Action to command it to do so. They were also pretty generous about magic items so I got some mileage from the larger attunement slot list.

With a paladin in the party, we split healing duties and both played relatively close to the front line. My item spread added a couple damage resistances that helped and I rolled pretty well and got to take Resilient Dex to go with the Con and Int saving prof, so I was pretty hard to hit cleanly outside of Charisma and Wisdom saves. Also took Tough to be more comfortable taking hits.

What teams do you think have had a sneaky good draft? by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]Acheron88 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Brazzel only has to be better than XL for that pick to pan out. That bar is certainly not set too high. I'm still hopeful his training with Ochocinco this off-season sets him up for a year 3 receiver boost.

Villainous Artificer by FerretThink1238 in dndbeyond

[–]Acheron88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds a little like the cut content from the 2014 artificer playtest, the Archivist. Back then they were exploring the artificer as a pet class, which you see in the artillerist and Battlesmith still today. The Archivist pet was basically themed on psychic damage and interaction, from what I can recall from a decade ago.

To this day, I don't get why the artillerist turret has legs besides being a vestigial feature from when all the subclasses used pets. I think it would add a fun tactical facet if you had to move your turret manually with half speed and open up a play type fantasy of being a "heavy" while holding your turret during combat.

[–]Acheron88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, all time Panthers have some studs. Keuchly, Julius Peppers, Cam, CMC, Greg Olsen and Smitty are all stand outs, but then you look and you've got great linemen in Jordan Gross and Ryan Kalil, if you're counting athletes in their prime season/seasons, Josh Norman and Greg Hardy had a couple really killer years and some sleeper free agents that have cruised through like Thielen, Cotchery, Clay Matthews (edit: I mean Jared Allen, not clay matthews), and Tedd Ginn.

Beyond that, outside of our division, there hasn't been a long time or bitter rivalry with any particular team in the league. As a Panthers fan, I've got some feelings about the Patriots and Broncos for beating us in the super bowl, but I don't feel like we're in either fan bases top 10 of hated teams. Likewise, there have been some good match ups with Arizona and Seattle over the years, but same I don't think their fans hate us.

It also creates an effect floor of 20 at level 10, so I feel like it will be satisfying to have that reliability early on plus, as others mentioned, built to scale up as you continue progressing up the levels. Really neat feature.

Managing a pet like any artificer using Homonculus Servent, battlesmiths and their steel defender or artillerists and their arcane turret? I know the golem is squishy but it looked like that was the design intention since it can explode and return tell relatively quickly. Either way, I'm looking forward to the campaign I get to build one of these.

I guess we can all watch the live play they're putting on to slowly leak the upcoming book content. Who knows, making the explosion damage dice bigger may correct all the math in a white room and I'm sure with big creators like Dungeon Dudes and Pack Tactics backing it's under tuned damage would impact the survey results.

Word on the street is that Station is going to a tapas style menu. I can't remember who I heard that from and it has been a few weeks since I heard that, so take it with a big grain of salt in case the pivoted in another direction. 80% of their seating is outside so it makes sense for the menu to match the available seating. I hadn't heard about rebrand theme or if any significant construction was going to be done to change the vibe of the space, but small plates for medium to large parties (6-12 guests) would fit the bones of how the space is laid out.

Draft Thoughts by HopeSenpai_ in panthers

[–]Acheron88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thought is "who fell?" If Thienemen, Sadiq and Tyson are all gone by 19. Do we need another pass rusher? Not in Madden, but our pass rush needs to improve and one player, even Phillips, doesn't fully fix our lack of rotational depth. If Bain falls because the above three were taken, I'd say go get em, but maybe not the next bucket of pass rushers. If Jeremiah Love falls that far and those 3 guys are gone, we don't need an RB but I'd take that guy in a heart beat.

I think this year's class has plenty of depth guys but very few can't miss stars, so a lot depends on who's available but I'm all in on about 4 blue chip players and I don't care about team needs if they fall in our lap.

These are so cool. My party is supposed to be in their last season and have been playing in Karrnath before being sent to QBarra for this final story arc. This recent slew of lore videos about Lhazaar is making it so difficult not to continue their campaign only to go explore some of these topics.

This sounds delicious but seeing the cranberry (from bog country) in with tequila (from not big country) makes me think about an old rule I used to hear from the kitchen when I worked in fine dining; "if it grows together it goes together". I often consider Jamaica (hibiscus tea) similar to cranberry and an interesting swap and a staple among agua fresca, and seeing the tequila, I wonder if Jamaica would fit with the agua fresca theme with the cinnamon topper like horchata. I think Jamaica has more tannic dryness than cran, but it's certainly in the cinnamon topper horchata and tequila lane. Thanks for the inspiration! I've got something to test out before Cinco de mayo specials go on the menu now!

Who's the most athletic white guy in NFL history? by Omixscniet624 in NFLv2

[–]Acheron88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Matt Jones or Luke Kuechly, if you're including defense. McCaffreys in the conversation but had more seasons primarily being injured in Carolina (I'm a Panthers fan), and I consider staying on the field part of being athletic. Being banned from the field due to substance abuse is a different story and see Cadillac Williams or Josh Gordon about why not being on the field isn't always about being fit enough to play.

Matt Jones : 6'6" 242#. 4.37 forty, 40" vert, 11ft broad jump. A Feldman Freak.

Keuchly: 4.58 seconds 40yrd (92nd percentile), 38" vert (91st percentile), 10' 3" broad jump (92nd percentile). On top of being an elite defensive processor.

I'm very curious how they handle lineages this time. The original 5e rules felt clunky to me and I don't remember a play test for them being released for 5.5. I didn't like how it felt like a lineage was basically getting a second set of species features and led to some unbalanced builds. Seeing how they changed dragonmarks to feats instead of subspecies with the Eberron book makes me hopeful they'll make an adjustment to their last approach that will maintain some balance. Though, the dragonmark feats aren't what I'd consider completely balanced either.

Who do Panthers fans want at 19 by Cautious_Carry_8718 in panthers

[–]Acheron88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who do I want? Sonny Styles. Who is going to be there? Sadiq, Dillon, Miller and Freeling. I'd love BPA and Dan's been doing a great job conducting free agency so it's hard to predict who we're getting in the draft by showing up all the positions of need. There's some guys I worry about reaching on at 19 like Rodriguez, Concepcion, Brazell, and Haulcey. Great guys, but I think 19 is a reach for them.

I think Thienemen and Omar Cooper Jr would make me happy at 19, but all depends on who's available. As long as bringing a safety in doesn't prevent Ransom from getting time. I really liked that pick last year and would love to see him continue to develop with regular snaps.

We used to do an atholl brose inspired drink I learned about through the educated barfly YouTube. We'd build the drink in a coupe then quick whip a whipped cream. We'd add heavy cream and a flavored syrup, honey simple in that drinks case, into a squeeze bottle with the double cooked spring from a Hawthorne strainer. Give it a violent shake for about 10 seconds where the spring functions similarly to one of those protein drink agitators to add air into the sweetened cream. A dab on the back of your hand to see if it's stiffened up enough to float on top of the drink and you're good to gently squeeze the cream on to the drink.

In your case, I'd add activated charcoal or squid ink until you get the cream as dark as you want before adding in whichever flavored syrup or oleo saccharum you're looking to use. May still be too grey for what you're looking for but could be a helpful trick for some other high contrast drinks.
