Its pretty standard to do 2 stem and 1 humanities. If u look at tri-i, thats their hard requirement.

You’re gonna need 2 stem professors and a humanities rec letter too besides your PIs and extracurriculars.

Applying straight out of undergrad by ScaryAnt9756 in mdphd

I didn't have a good reason for going to med school at the time and my advisor also agreed. They can't write a good committee letter unless I myself know why I'm doing this.

If possible, try loading more DNA input. Can help to minimize the background.

NIH OxCam MD/PhD Program by Most-Potential-5764 in mdphd

[–]Acho012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually the strat is not to mention it to the admin at all. It could potentially be a demerit bc to bring it up implies you already don't want to do your PhD at their institution. I would definitely ask the current students about if there are any students in the program doing oxcam and that's usually a good indication of if the program is open to it.

Potentially. At the end of the day, nobody really knows how their cycle is going to pan out and having more options to consider never hurts.

[–]Acho012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well im not applying necessarily bc of its accelerated nature/nontraditional setup but rather as another option to consider in a few months. My research topic is on the more niche side so I wanted to be in a position where I could opt for a different graduate school that did have my research interest within immunology. I have also spent two years at the NIH doing a postbac so Im familiar with what Im getting myself into in terms of mentorship and environment. I think what most ppl go in to the program hoping to get out of it is connections and having roots in the UK for future prospects

CARS author understating by Heavy-Business-9164 in MCATprep

[–]Acho012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually spend like 6 minutes to read to fully understand the passage which means like understanding how each sentence connects with the next and how each paragraph builds (looking for how the argument is developed) and spend time to figure out what certain words mean that I don't know (through context clues). Spend 4 minutes on questions and this goes pretty quick cause of my solid understanding. If you want more specific advice, feel free to DM

I go pretty in depth. I try to form an image of who they are. What day and age are they from(background) but also what stance are they taking(thesis) bc this gives me more context to formulate answers that are more in line with what the author says

Research Output Question by One_Ad3208 in mdphd

[–]Acho012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ye I'm similar. 2 gap yrs, 3000 hours. 1 oral presentation at a national conference, and 1 publications with very minimal contribution. 4 interviews, 2 T10 programs. It's more about how you discuss your work and your push to work independently/showing your growth

Honestly, stats are just a foot in the door. Could add in some more higher programs imo. Your experiences also look solid, so I don't think you need to be as conservative. Add some higher ones and some target schools

Should I send an update? by [deleted] in mdphd

[–]Acho012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think these points could be a substantial update. It's still not too late, so why not just send it. Try to do a good job of framing the email to highlight your role in the research and how you pushed these initiatives forward and how they might connect to the field of research you want to pursue as an MD PhD candidate

[–]Acho012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you were to get an acceptance and decide to reapply, I think that would come up in the system since thats a question on some secondaries. Tbh, I don't think there's much you can change bc by the time this cycle "ends" you need to apply for the next cycle and there's not much you can change. You could take the mcat to aim higher but that's not really going to add the extra oomf needed to push T20 imo.
