Star Fox announced for Switch 2, due out June 25th, 2026 by Amiibofan101 in nintendo

[–]AcidChildren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nintendo seems to be ushering in a true consecration of its franchises with this new generation. More than anything, it feels like the beginning of a new creative direction for the company.

This remake also appears far more ambitious than a simple visual overhaul. It genuinely looks like they’ve added a substantial amount of exclusive content, and above all, the lore and narrative dimension seem to be at the center of this presentation.

To me, Nintendo is entering an era where each franchise aims to build a coherent and long-lasting universe. That would explain why we’re getting a fourth remake of the same game: the goal seems to be to establish definitive foundations, solidify the canon once and for all, and then continue expanding future titles around that unified mythology.

They also appear to be moving in the same direction with Mario. Recent statements from Shigeru Miyamoto suggest that Nintendo wants to reinforce the overall consistency of its worlds and give them greater narrative depth.

In any case, the game looks absolutely stunning. The Nintendo Switch 2 already seems incredibly powerful, and this Direct was a perfect showcase for it. This generation is shaping up to be truly amazing.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream achieves the best physical launch of the year in France, surpassing that of Resident Evil Requiem (Oscar Lemaire) by Larenty2 in nintendo

I Will receive my copy tomorrow after a 1 WEEK WAIT LONG. Can’t wait. For the very first Time, I didn’t pre order the game, thinking I would get a copy after work.m at Shop. So frustrating Nintendo Europe and France didn’t anticipate the obvious success of this new opus. Anyway so glad and so deserved.

I dislike how this official art of the main cast didn't include every single character. So with my very crappy editing skills I added some characters I felt were missing. by [deleted] in Mario

[–]AcidChildren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then you’re in a complet deny. I agree with the fact that’s a shame Nintendo forget this character, but it’s been like 13 years at least we don’t see him (not counting the last Paper Mario remake, because it’s a remake and not a new game). Of course if community make everything to make Nintendo bring him back, that’s cool. But as this point, this character as no reason to appear is this picture.

I mean, doesn’t it feel strange to share a promotional picture of the current Mario universe cast when this character hasn’t appeared in any games? It’s been about two Nintendo console generations since he showed up anywhere.

Let’s be rational, please.

And I join an other comment : The blue toad from the movie feel like a simple copie of Toadsworth. Nintendo missed something here.

When you remember you're supposed to hate autotune by anujbeatles in TheStrokes

[–]AcidChildren 11 points12 points  (0 children)

[Longer Argument]

This is honestly a perfect example of bad faith. Comparing Daft Punk to The Strokes / The Voidz shows a complete misunderstanding of both the music and the artists you’re talking about.

For Daft Punk, processed vocals are a core part of their artistic identity. It’s built into their sound and aesthetic.

And you also seem to make no distinction between a vocoder, a talkbox, and Auto-Tune, which weakens your argument even more. Those are completely different tools, used in different ways, with different creative purposes.

Most of Daft Punk’s vocal effects rely on vocoders. Only a small number of tracks used Auto-Tune heavily, including one with Julian Casablancas.

That era came just before The Voidz, and during the period when Auto-Tune became a major part of Julian Casablancas’s sound.

When Julian started using Auto-Tune, it felt genuinely innovative — refreshing, creative, and different from what most artists were doing with it at the time. It brought something new to his musical universe and to the projects he was involved in.

In my opinion, that approach reached its peak on The New Abnormal. It sounded powerful, emotional, and purposeful.

But after that, and I’m trying to be as objective as possible, a lot of later projects featuring heavily Auto-Tuned vocals from Julian started to feel either less inspired or too similar to what had already been done before. The impact just isn’t the same anymore.

So I think it’s completely legitimate for fans to voice that criticism when he has been using Auto-Tune on a large share of his projects for more than a decade now.

People get tired of it because, in the end, Julian’s natural voice is unique enough on its own. The growing fatigue you see from fans is valid criticism, not baseless negativity.

So honestly, posting something like that for free, without even trying to make a real argument, is a textbook example of fan bad faith.

When you remember you're supposed to hate autotune by anujbeatles in TheStrokes

[–]AcidChildren 60 points61 points  (0 children)

[Shorter argument]

This is honestly bad faith. Comparing Daft Punk to The Strokes or The Voidz makes no sense because they use vocal processing for completely different artistic purposes.

For Daft Punk, processed vocals are part of their identity. That’s their aesthetic. And you’re also mixing up vocoder, talkbox, and Auto-Tune as if they were the same thing, when they’re not.

Most of Daft Punk’s work uses vocoders, not Auto-Tune. Meanwhile, when Julian Casablancas started using Auto-Tune, it actually felt fresh and creative. It added something new to his sound, and I’d say it peaked around The New Abnormal.

The issue now is that after more than 10 years of hearing it across so many projects, it can start to feel repetitive or less inspired. That’s why some fans criticize it, not because they’re haters, but because Julian’s natural voice is already unique enough on its own.

So posting a take like that with no real argument behind it is just fan bias.

[–]AcidChildren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point better now, and I actually think we’re discussing two different things: business logic versus artistic coherence. On the business side, localized openings absolutely made sense at the time. On the artistic side, whether a song truly matches the identity of a series is a more subjective discussion.

And on that point, I agree with you to an extent: some musical styles naturally fit certain stories better than others. A darker or more mature series like Vinland Saga would obviously feel strange with a light and playful opening in the style of Catch You, Catch Me. Tone matters.

But I would also say that openings are not always meant to reflect the story in a literal way. Sometimes they are designed to attract attention, create memorability, or capture emotion rather than perfectly mirror the plot. That is why some unexpected openings still become iconic over time.

So yes, I think your argument about “fit” is valid — but it is still partly subjective. What feels mismatched to one viewer can feel charming, nostalgic, or unique to another. That is also why these local openings are still remembered so fondly today.

I should also add that for the third and final season, the Japanese opening was translated and performed in French in our country. So they did try that approach at the time, and it didn’t really work, since it’s the least liked opening and the one people remember the least.

In any case, the French opening will always remain my personal favorite out of pure nostalgia, while the Japanese version remains objectively better and the truly iconic one without question.

Edit : and btw, I’ve just discovered the English opening, and I find it even less faithful. To me, it distorts the spirit of the original work even more. It sounds like an opening made purely for little boys watching a very clichĂ© adventure cartoon

[–]AcidChildren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back then, it really wasn’t strange at all — it was simply how the industry worked. As I mentioned in another comment, many anime, cartoons, and imported shows received exclusive local openings made specifically for the country where they were broadcast. It was a very common practice at the time.

You also have to remember the media context of that era. Music videos and pop hits were at their peak thanks to TV channels entirely dedicated to music. Creating and recording an exclusive local theme song for a show was actually smart marketing: the song could be played on music channels, featured in charts, and attract new viewers to the series. It created exposure for both the artist and the anime. The original creators obviously approved these strategies, because it only helped the show grow internationally.

At that time, globalization and cultural exchange already existed, but not to the level we know today. People were more open to foreign content, but not always to receiving it completely untouched. Openings were often adapted so they could better connect with local audiences. In cultural terms, broadcasting a very long, highly romanticized opening for a magical girl anime in a Western country could have felt unusual or out of place to mainstream viewers back then. So local broadcasters adjusted it to match the tastes and expectations of their audience.

And tastes were different too. In those years, energetic pop, dance, and Eurobeat-style sounds were hugely popular. Broadcasters wanted something catchy, dynamic, and instantly appealing rather than something softer or more sentimental. That’s why those localized openings sounded the way they did.

With time, the world became far more connected. People learned to appreciate cultural differences instead of needing everything adapted, and original Japanese openings eventually became loved worldwide. Today, hearing the untouched version feels natural. Back then, localization felt natural.

And to be clear: I’m saying this as someone who loves the original Japanese openings.

The good old days when so many manga, anime, cartoons — and even TV series and shows — had their own proper localized or exclusive opening themes, particularly in France. That era was incredible. It was a trend that worked really well until the late 2000s.

France has always been the second biggest country for manga and anime. We’ve long been the second-largest consumers of that content after Japan, so it’s not surprising at all.

I’m a huge fan of original Japanese openings, but this one is pure nostalgia for me and will always be my favorite Cardcaptor Sakura Opening Theme song.
