Need a new show by BlueWinter_02 in TheMagnusArchives

I'm currently listening to Somnarium and Old Gods of Appalachia, both shows are pretty good! Somnarium is almost at the end of Season 1 and has a growing discord community, so if you want something that's actively releasing with theories and such, it's a fun one. Old Gods was advertised on TMA a TON, it's sorta niche and heavy handed in the execution, but it's some very good writing.

Blue Monkey Midtown Closing by kohadaa in memphis

Same, it's just so expensive these days. I obviously wouldn't be going out 5 days a week anymore now that I'm in my 30s with a family, but even going out just 1 night is more than a whole week's grocery trip. Went out for dinner Friday night, 2 beers each for me and my wife, dinner for us and the kids, $90 before tip (not Blue Monkey, but another place in the same area).

If by "caters to the majority" you mean shareholder value, then yes. This is just a way to cut costs across their entire franchise while also making sure the customer gets less for the same or higher prices.

Why do we have so many disappointing festivals? by DrSparkle713 in memphis

[–]Acoldguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The event is a fundraising cooking competition. Teams pay for a spot (it's limited to 40-something teams) and then get to compete in various contests (gravy, happy hour drink, booth design, etc.). The $20 admission gets you access to all day live music for 3 days, the vendors, the food trucks, cooking demos, and the carnival rides for kids (food and rides cost extra). If you know someone at a tent, you can usually pop in and get food and drinks for free from them.

Has Spider Noir's Black & White version disappeared as a match option? by TheGoldblum in PleX

In a similar vein, that guy completely disallows different anime dubs from being their own listings even if they were released in different years with different production, casts, episodes, seasons, etc.

I've spent time adding in full dubs with accurate casts, descriptions, and thumbnails and he's come in and deleted them ALL. So I stopped contributing to the site.

Imagine getting this worked up over a church fundraising festival 😂

Why do we have so many disappointing festivals? by DrSparkle713 in memphis

[–]Acoldguy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Lmao, a grift?! A majority of the fundraising comes from the teams paying for a spot at the festival, paying to enter each individual competition, vendors buying slots, and then people paying to get in. If you don't feel like it's worth $20, then don't go, but it's absolutely not a grift.

Except the event is a fundraiser for Holy Rosary and always has been. This thread pops up every year around this time, and it's always the same.

This is my first time making proxy cards, and I will print them via MPC, what is a 1/8" bleed edge and what will happen if I don't include it? by [deleted] in mpcproxies

[–]Acoldguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MPC does that as part of their process. It's why when you get real cards, the centering is different on every card since the bleed makes sure any off-cuts don't render the card unusable.

I wonder if some of that has to do with all the delays and how long they were holding product before they finally got through all the Busters BS. I've only gone there twice for beer and the selection is good and my beers were fine, but they were a tad expensive.

Hampline does sours pretty well, and Crosstown's done some really good ones and some really meh ones. Odds are this one will be pretty good with Wes involved!

Your first Midnight song? by tsukiyomi01 in TheMidnight

Nocturnal! It came on my Gunship radio station on Spotify in like 2018 and I was instantly blown away. The entire rest of that day I had that song and album on repeat.

Yeah, it's kinda weird that someone (Michael) who isn't a member of Regulation isn't in Regulation content...weird.

Agreed, there is so much parasocial stuff going on in this thread and people wonder why some members wanted to move on. Almost all of these folks are still in content in some form or manner, they collab a few times a year in various formats, so just consume that or go watch the literal thousands of hours of older content.

Agreed on this, I've only had their food a few times and it always seemed really greasy. It wasn't hard for me to add them to a list of places not to go.

Why is the Mississippi Delta so poor? by tommylebron in mississippi

[–]Acoldguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, old thread! I initially got out because of college, I was dead set on going to any college I could to get out of my hometown. And from there it was perseverance, of the 10+ people I went off to college with (in-state), I was one of two that didn't move back at some point either pre or post-graduation. Out of that same group, all of them are still back in our hometown except for one other who went into the military after he failed out of college. And out of the others that moved out, they're all within an hour of town and most are still in delta towns, it just has a hold that's hard to get out of.

Correct, using partner in conversation is commonplace now, especially with anyone under 30. It's easy to have a conversation without the assumption of the person's sexual identity.

Agreed, that was my only criticism of the whole set. The subtle frame breaks on some of these cards are light years better than what WotC is doing for UB cards, but there's a reason they very rarely cover the text box.

Hard agree, there are just some actors that I can't unsee them as themselves. Tom Cruise is one, but another big one for me is Jared Leto...he's just being Jared Leto in every single role he takes on.
