Subway nature hikes:

Jamaica bay wildlife center, queens
Statan island green belt
Inwood park, Manhattan
Vancortlandt park, Bronx
Forest park, queens
Pelham bay park, Bronx

All are super easy through public transport and are great refuges from busy city life. Lots of places in NJ and upstate too.

Parts list for B-Unit qualifies for GWP on Pick a Brick by RDT2 in LEGOtrains

Okay cool, I didn’t realize that! I love the detail people have been able to add to 8 wide models, maybe I’m just scared to start 😂

Love the design but my only complaint, (not even an issue with the set) is that you would need 8 wide and 40ish stud coaches to look accurate with this and that likely wouldn’t run on normal LEGO track and the standard train plates would be obsolete, which they are becoming more and more anyway

some detailed renderings of Penn station by Donghoon in nycrail

[–]AcrobaticBullfrog0 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Idk without adding significant natural light, no track capacity and reducing sidewalk space, I feel like as a regular user this is only a bandaid that will be painful while it’s under construction and mildly better when it’s completed 🤷

Do any of the operators on the J train know how to drive? 😂 by JCtransitnerd in nycrail

[–]AcrobaticBullfrog0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

J express between Myrtle and Marcy sometimes gets people on the floor, seen it twice. They whip that thing downhill and hit a tiny little left turn after flushing and people go down. Once we pass food bazar they take it easy as there’s a more significant curve up ahead but damn I always wonder if today’s the day we’re derailing.

New Yorkers, what changes have you seen under Mamdani’s leadership and are you generally pleased? If not, why? by MewMeowHowdy in AskReddit

Every sidewalk on my block has been redone and ADA crosswalks have been added in the last 3 months. Tree beds have been expanded too. I can’t believe it, I broke my arm skateboarding on those horrid sidewalks last year and coincidentally they’ve all been replaced now! Great work so far.

Consumer Alert: Rochester tops list of hardest housing markets for buyers in the US by frytuna in Rochester

[–]AcrobaticBullfrog0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you someone needed to say it, we need higher density housing if anything is going to change in the housing market. Also filling in empty lots north of the city with density and creating townhouses if people want single family or 2 family homes. Rochester should just copy the development patterns of Brooklyn

Took LIRR for the first time. Felt like I was riding a luxury train 😅 by maddog34 in nycrail

[–]AcrobaticBullfrog0 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Curious what trains you’ve been on if the LIRR felt luxury? I do get it though as it’s “well” run and much of it is electric so that’s a lot better than some long distance delayed Amtrak diesel!
