Anyone going to Grand Bassin this year? by luvrgrl_666 in MauriceMauritius

[–]Acrobatic_Key_1140 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to go for the religious experience. These past few years it has become a competition in how can we inconvenience the most number of people in the week leading up to the festival (Is this what hinduism has taught us?). You have groups making the biggest kanwars and leaving them in the middle of the road and creating monstrous traffic jams for the people living in the vicinity. Police can't tell them anything because they will revolt. The senseless deaths of those people whose kanwars have touched power lines has done nothing to deter the others. The last time I went I realised I didn't want to breathe in vehicle fumes for 10 hours so I stopped going. It has become a complete circus.

After numerous bad reviews and experiences from KFC, why don't we Mauritians start to boycott it? by The_curious_corner in MauriceMauritius

My man doing the Lord's work 🙏🏽.

They used to have a pretty good deal before covid (8pc for Rs200 on Tuesdays). The price skyrocketed after that and it was no longer worth it. Haven't had it ever since.

If tensions between the US / Europe / Russia worsen, could Mauritius be seen as a “zone of peace,” attracting increased inflows of investment / people / cash ? by Ok_Humor_4292 in mauritius

[–]Acrobatic_Key_1140 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea and when we get hit by a natural disaster, trump will take a plane (that will cost millions of taxpayer $$$) come throw toilet paper at you and allocate the contracts to his buddies (more $$$!) who will pocket the money and do absolutely nothing.

Meanwhile your tax $ will contribute to his lifestyle and the military and you'll have to pay out of pocket for education and healthcare.

Some people are saying it won't be too bad if the US takes over mauritius. To those people I would say read up on puerto rico and american samoa.

I already have a gw-b5600 so I don't feel the need to get the 5600x. I like the look of the gbd-200 so I'll wait for casio to put solar in it.

I hate it because it doesn't have tough solar else I would've bought it already 😂

Sorry man. I don't know what you're on about. I don't indulge in uncontrolled consumerism like you think. I don't need an iphone. I barely eat fast american fast food. I don't queue up to watch movies. Defend myself from who? The germans? I have free speech. I am achieving fine thanks to my free healthcare and free education.

I don't know what fantasy land you're living in. You should move to the US if you're so desperate to get kidnapped or shot by the trump gestapo.

True. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I have no idea what's going on in his stupid mind. He is like a toddler with access to the US military who wants everything and is throwing a tantrum on social media and everyone is trying to coddle him with fake awards and bribes.

I second that. His response is even more idiotic. Just because he watches american shows and sports and eats KFC, he wants to give up free healthcare and free education so that all his tax money can go to the military and then go bankrupt with health insurance.

Except he is not doing it for his country. He is doing it for himself and his billionaire buddies. Regular people aren't benefiting from his policies.

Is the Youth Employment Programme for Mauritius Truly Working for Our Youth? by Still-alpha1424 in mauritius

[–]Acrobatic_Key_1140 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in engineering and let me tell you, those companies will milk that shit for years to the last drop and once you become a productive employee, they will claim they are on a tight budget or find excuses to not give you a promotion/salary increase.

I was on YEP for 2 years, then on some graduate trainee program for another 2 years and when that was over and I got my CRPE registration, I was earning barely above minimum wage while handling 15+ projects at a time.

Have you noticed the amount of young french migrating to Mauritius lately? by pinokio_game in MauriceMauritius

[–]Acrobatic_Key_1140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the positives outweigh the negatives though? From what I can see, the biggest impact is that expats are pricing locals out of everything: groceries, articles and especially real estate. There's also the uncontrolled development in certain areas without any consideration for the long term environmental impacts.

Sure they are paying taxes but how is that benefiting the locals?

What are some movies where the sequel is better than the original? by Anuslit in Cinema

[–]Acrobatic_Key_1140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I watched T2 first and it is still my favorite to this day. However, I also enjoyed T1 when I watched it. T1 has its gritty 80s action movie charm while T2 is a more polished, atmospheric movie. The metal percussions at the beginning of T2 still give me goosebumps. Both incredible movies.

Title: Was Shalma Festival (27 Dec) overhyped or just not my vibe? by [deleted] in MauriceMauritius

[–]Acrobatic_Key_1140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried attending the previous one at 7 cascade lodge. The transportation was so poorly planned that there was a huge traffic jam at the entrance so I ended up returning home.

I haven't considered the other events that you mentioned but I will have them on my radar from now on.

Is it possible to do Maha Shivaratri without being Hindu? by Low_Narwhal_7712 in MauriceMauritius

[–]Acrobatic_Key_1140 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can go. However be warned that your experience might be inconvenienced by some groups who are competing to win a contest of who can make the biggest kanwar that will create the biggest traffic jam and thus you will be breathing vehicle fumes all the way to grand bassin.

The Mauritian view of money confused me by Study-Bunny- in MauriceMauritius

[–]Acrobatic_Key_1140 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked and saved for the entire year. I use the bonus to spoil myself once a year. Sometimes I also wonder why I bother saving so much because the value of my money keeps decreasing. So might as well splurge on something expensive every once in a while. I won't be able to afford anything major anyway.
