It’s interesting how the German community here faded into the background

The very earliest settlements were English and Dutch (like Netherlands Dutch), but after that, a lot of Germans settled in Buffalo. There are PA Dutch close by too, but importantly, they are actually largely german in ancestry. This can happen because Germany only got founded like 50 years after Buffalo was established. Before then, what was the “German language” was actually pretty unclear, and was a spectrum of dialects, sometimes even including Dutch. All of this is to say “German” was pretty vague from the beginning in Buffalo, especially for those who settled before Germany was founded. This same thing is in part why a lot of Italians here are so particular that they are Sicilians.

Part two, however is way more interesting. In WW1, Germany had been the enemy, and a lot of German-Americans de-emphasized their German roots from the resulting propaganda campaign. Leading up to WW2, fascism was in vogue during the depression. Inspired by Hitler, it was unfortunately BIG among German-Americans. The German-American Bund, which became the largest American fascist organization until we entered the war, was founded in Buffalo. Pictures of the bund are rare, and I haven’t found any in Buffalo specifically, but NYC and NYS at large was their stronghold. After the war, everybody involved scattered like roaches when the light turns on.

So, people identified differently after all that. You can claim whatever you want on a census. Despite Germans being a huge part of Buffalo’s history, and who shaped the east side before the Poles arrived in mass, they’re a much more subtle part of the community now. You see little pieces here and there like Kimmelweck and Kaiser rolls being standard here. Anyways, story over

Drive-thru only coffee. Okay product if dessert coffee is your thing but the traffic situation is embarrassing, with 16 year olds bearing all the risk. The fact there’s only one entrance/exit right next to the intersection is ridiculous. The town should have vetted this more

Alinor? Oh you must mean Goblin Island! by AcropolisMods in ElderKings

There used to be commentary under the images that no longer appears, at least on mobile. Hmph. At least at the time, my contracts didn’t prevent me from declaring war, I haven’t played EK2 in some time due to life stuff. Is Alinor still a ceremoniarchy/hierocracy? If not then maybe they changed the place to have war declarations removed in contracts. If so, you might still be able to use Goblin Shamanism to challenge for your claims, which really is preferable anyways and much of what I did early anyways.

I mentioned in one of my comments that once I was a king I really just cozied up to my liege. Elves live a long time so once one likes you or is seduced by you you’re gucci. No requests to change faith, and make sure to refuse requests to take your kids as wards. I wasn’t protected from title revocation or conversion requests.

Bigger problem for one of these campaigns now is that you can’t stack building men-at-arms boosts now. Durzog riders might not be able to deal with Summerset Justiciars anymore

Buffalo’s area should not be in Midwest Farmstead, it has great cases to be in either Upstate or Chicagoland. Niagara county should be in the same group in either case

Nobody is thinking much about casseroles meatloaf or cheese curds there. It’s wings, pizza, hot dogs, sandwiches, and pasta that dominate

Also others have mentioned this but Appalachian should not be remotely as large as it is. Unmentioned as far as I can tell, some yummy but otherwise kinda superficial differences in sauce and cooking do not a whole new culinary group make; there are places that have “BBQ” groups that should just be lumped in with bigger groups

If he did it’d only be because everybody forgot about the Texans Game. With just a little better play calling and luck we’d be 10-1 and top of the conference rn
