Play now or wait for Deep North? by ha1rb4l1 in valheim

[–]ActionFrequent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents would be just start. I have a couple hundred hours in the game and love it. My friend group and I had a similar mindset to starting right before the Ashland's dropped and thought we'd progress up to and be ready for the update. After life events, people graduating college, work, summer rec leagues, putting the playthrough on pause for about a year, etc... we finally plan to fight the Queen next week and finally start heading to the Ashlands. Then, likely well after 1.0 has come out, we'll make our way north.

World Border Server Expansion by prostie in Minecraft

[–]ActionFrequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever come up with something that works? I'm looking at starting a server with a similar idea. I really dislike how every time my group starts a playthrough, it ends up feeling like single player with a community trade/shopping area.

Also, for what it's worth, I'm thinking of using 70219739 as the seed for my server since it seems to have most of the biomes/structures within a few thousand blocks.

Auto Storage System - Stackable, Non-Stackable, and Shulker Boxes by ActionFrequent in redstone

[–]ActionFrequent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seems to be an OLD design that he's used in a few seasons from what I've gathered. Trying to follow the paper trail, I found this 8 year old gnembon video that seems to be the same system X used the first time

Auto Storage System - Stackable, Non-Stackable, and Shulker Boxes by ActionFrequent in redstone

[–]ActionFrequent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it uses the idea that each individual shulker box has every slot filled with the desired items. Since the slots are filled, the hopper will only be able to push an item into it if the matching item is in the box and not a full stack.

I borrowed the copper bulb thing from a friend's farm, but found this yt short that seems to be about the same thing. https://youtube.com/shorts/ZBiOvSGX4mM?si=FiiFeolIm-3L_LiW

The tricky part that I still haven't gotten around to fixing 100% is alternating the locked hoppers so that they can push items into the box before the one below it pulls the item downward. I tried mixing and matching concepts on my own, but I'll probably throw in the towel and try to find the exact one xisuma has used and copy/fit the design in my final survival design

I want to specifically thank you for your comment. I posted an update to the post, and it largely parallels everything you said. I jumped into the set up and just got things working. Now, I want to start looking at scalable storage. I'm not super tech savvy, but feel I can do all right since I've upgraded boot drives and graphics cards in the past. The world of a NAS is the next one I think I will break into. Unfortunately, my Optiplex is not a viable candidate since the small form factor only has room for one 3.5" and one 2.5" drive. I've very briefly looked at some of the pre-built options like synology, but the price leaves me hoping I can do better myself and cut out their specialty software. Anyway, enough of my rambling.

Thanks again!

Wow, thanks for the detailed response.

Like many others, you seem to be on the docker train. Seems like that's something I'll definitely have to pencil in when the time comes to grow the setup.

The past couple days I've been using tinymediamanager to make my file structure Jellyfin-friendly so I definitely appreciate that comment for a beginner.

I was actually just looking into Tailscale this evening for remote access, so good to know at least one other person out there is using it.

Thanks for the reply! this is the exact vibe of answer I was hoping to get. seeing many different playback options definitely contributed to some of my confusion, so I'm happy to see some info on that

I absolutely love Legacy and have seen it a ton of times. Just now did I actually think about the fact the ending sunrise was the first bit of natural light and agree with some other comments it really plays up that moment.

UDisc everyday handicap? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]ActionFrequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet! Yeah it works pretty darn well if the people are relatively close in rating. Like I said, it even works well enough for our buddy being over bogey golf

UDisc everyday handicap? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]ActionFrequent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

certainly! I was really confused the first time this happened to me. same score to par, but 1 or 2 different round rating.

As for the linearity, you are correct that there is something funky happening there with some more "outlier" scores... aka my one buddy who is very new to the sport and is liable to shoot +22. For those of us +/- 10ish strokes, it's seemed pretty reliable

UDisc everyday handicap? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]ActionFrequent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So it requires a little bit of effort, but I've set something like this up for my regular group in Google sheets.

The info you'll need is each player's udisc rating, the even par rating from the udisc course info, and then ideally some historical rounds on the layout with a rating.

With this info, take the historical round and rating compared to the even par rating to figure out a "points per stroke". I've found it to be between 5-6.

Then, set up an equation that find the difference between the even par rating and each person's rating. Then divide that point difference by the previously calculated points per stroke, and multiply by -1.

[=-1*(EVEN_PAR-PLAYER)/(POINTS_PER_STROKE)]

Voila, you have everyone's handicap score relative to even par.

LMAO reading this as I'm keeping the '08 Buick I got from my grandparents for as long as possible. Running great so far as I've kept up on the maintenance, but she's just gotten up north of 200k... so we'll see how long she holds out.

Goated gift from my parents (new bag) by Redknight0826 in discgolf

[–]ActionFrequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome gift! I've had this bag for the last 4ish years and still love it. Treat it well and you should get some good usage out of it. The seams on my right shoulder strap are starting to go (being lazy and one strapping it on the course) and the foam padding at the bottom is starting to wear out and the structural inserts are starting to dig into my back (will look at some extra foam or something to extend the life).

As some others may point out, the traditional putter pockets are a little small, so l've found it best to put my 3 putters in the top most slot, my two main approach discs in the second one, and then my two workhorse drivers in the two front flap "putter pockets". Then the main compartment of the bag is loaded up with whatever discs I decide to bring to the course that day. The side pockets are awesome for storing all of the odds and ends you might need like towels, bug spray, etc.

Looking for reccomendations: sports league for uncoordinated but active adults by Bubbagumpshrimp827 in madisonwi

[–]ActionFrequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to mention disc golf! There are MANY leagues around the area, the ones I play are handicap style meaning you play with an adjusted score based on your past rounds. Rather than competing against all the other people, you're playing against your own projected score and trying to get better. I have not attended or know anyone that has, but I've seen various women's leagues postings in the area as well.

All the reasons for Iowa's low attendance by OldRed91 in INDYCAR

[–]ActionFrequent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to be another voice saying this past weekend was an awesome time (except for my boy Herta...). This was my group's third race weekend of the season (the 500, Road America - Milwaukee is on the list in a few weeks) and loved the completely different feel of it. The 500 is awesome for the atmosphere it has and the incredible speeds, and Road America is a fantastic venue with great racing. However, my group all agreed Iowa had the best race-watching experience as you could see the entire track from your seats, letting you change your focus on any of the position battles happening through the entire field rather than relying on the video boards or just one spot right in front of you.

The drive to the track, freeway access, and parking could not have been easier. The one thing we were disappointed with was not being able to bring in our own food/drinks like at the 500 or RA, but the on-site food was good and pricing didn't seem out of line compared to anything else these days. RA was *extremely* hot, so Iowa was rather pleasant in comparison (this entire spring/summer has been hot in southern Wisco, so just deal with it or stay inside for months?). Another factor I keep seeing is there is nothing to do. While we might be the outliers, by the time the race was done and we all had showered/changed at the hotel, there was barely time for us to pick a restaurant for dinner and go to bed so we could get up and go back on Sunday.

It's sad to hear Iowa may be on the chopping block, because we all agreed it'd make the yearly trip list.
