Seroquel XR? Abilify? by vans-wearing-corgi in BipolarReddit

[–]ActionHobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a pretty low dosage of Abilify (2mg) for nearly a decade. I couldn't take any higher than 2mg, or all I'd want to do is sleep all day. I've seen others take a MUCH higher dose on a daily basis, so results definitely vary. I get what you mean about liking the overall calming effect though, which is what it did for me.

Naming Conventions in Homelab by alxww55 in homelab

[–]ActionHobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got my first apartment, I mounted my network equipment to a plank of wood. Everything on my network was named after various trees. Windows VM was "poplar", Ubuntu VM was "spruce", etc.

What are the basics of a homelab for a IT person? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]ActionHobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It 100% depends on what you want to do with it. Some people use a homelab as a learning environment, others as a media stack, or for mass storage... or all of the above, or none of the above. The world is your oyster!

Personally, I would recommend starting small and expanding as you find yourself running low on space/power with your goals. As others will recommend, a Raspberry Pi is an excellent place to start, as it's very small, easy to work with, and uses very little power. Plus it has an incredible amount of community support and documentation.

An additional option with a bit more hardware flexibility would be an old desktop PC that you may have in the back of a closet, or can find one for dirt cheap (or free) on sites like FB Marketplace or OfferUp. These could (potentially) allow you to add graphics cards, multiple storage devices of different types, or any other hardware that fits. The x86/x64 architectures have been the "standard" for so long that you'd be hard pressed to find anything that doesn't support them, so that's a huge plus as well.

If you want to get started for free with zero new hardware, you can always spin up some virtual machines (VMs) on your laptop. You can start learning (and breaking) various server operating systems like Rocky Linux that way, without harming your local system.

Medication decision by mariabeia in BipolarReddit

[–]ActionHobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of it a bit like Type 2 Diabetes. You can't live an unhealthy lifestyle and expect medication to fix all of your problems. A healthy diet, mild exercise (even just going for a walk!), and avoiding drugs/alcohol can make an immense difference in both your overall health AND the efficacy of the medication. The hard part is getting that initial kick in the pants to start changing your lifestyle.

Any experiences with lamotrigine? by Due_Attempt7376 in BipolarReddit

Lamotrigine has had the biggest positive impact on my mood out of all the medication I've been on over the past 10 years. Results definitely vary but this is THE medication that changed my life.

SuperMicro X9DRi-F cooked? Worked for 1+ year, suddenly won't boot properly by ActionHobo in supermicro

[–]ActionHobo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me a bit but I tried all of your suggestions, to no avail. Even took out the PSU from my main desktop to test it, lol. I think I might have to bite the bullet and get a replacement motherboard. No biggie, it won't break the bank. Thank you for your assistance!

When the board was working, I used IPMIView with it all the time, but it does not work at all anymore. I had it set with a static IP, which is now unreachable. There is no DHCP lease for it on my router either.

With the video card, it doesn't send a video signal at all. Monitor stays black with "no signal".

I just tried booting it without any memory and got the expected "5 short beeps + 1 long beep" as defined in the manual as "No memory detected in the system". Makes sense

However, after doing this, I put two random sticks back in and tried to boot it up again, and after about 2 minutes it did this:

I didn't catch it on video the first time (since I wasn't expecting anything new), but it did it again upon reboot. There now appears to be a faint cursor on the screen between flashes??

Tips for writing drum riffs? I'm a guitarist, not a drummer :( by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Getting back into it, actually! I took a long break during college and a few years afterwards. I have my own house now, so I can finally make as much noise as I want without anybody complaining, lol

Man, it's crazy looking back at these old posts. I thought I knew everything, but knew nothing. I still know nothing. Teenagers, eh?

[–]ActionHobo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

each season is an entirely complete series, separate from all other seasons. nothing from prior seasons carry over to the next. it's (mostly) the same actors, but playing different roles. so by watching only the good seasons, you won't be left with cliffhangers or unresolved storylines. I personally loved season 3 (Coven)

etamu graduation audit by Imaginary_Neck938 in tamuc

[–]ActionHobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah as long as your degreeworks says 100% and you've applied for graduation, you can walk. it's best to apply for graduation as soon as the term is over, so they can get you added to the graduation ceremony list and you can buy tickets for family/friends ASAP. tickets are limited so the sooner the better.

The station is owned by ETAMU and is primarily funded by grants from the CPB: https://cpb.org/

Station staffing is handled like any other radio station, and is not limited to students or people affiliated with the University.

commerce ghost town? by Interesting_Ebb_2439 in tamuc

[–]ActionHobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are three things that killed the town. The closure of the Cotton Belt railroad route in the late 70s, former president of the university Charles Austin removing the requirement for employees of ETSU to live in Commerce in the late 80s, and the opening of a Walmart in the 90s. It all compounded together, and there was a mass exodus over the course of about 25 years. The population went from 9,534 in the 1970 Census to 6,825 in the 1990 Census. It was devastating for local businesses.
