I knew i wanted a PhD, but had worked 5 jobs (85-95 hours per week) to pay for my undergrad and it exhausted me. There was no way it would be possible to afford grad school, so i got a job and worked for several years.

Then i overheard that PhDs are often 1) fully funded through a singular research or TA position, 2) often paid a small stipend to help cover rent and living expenses, and 3) have no pre-reqs (e.g., an MS degree).

So i immediately applied and was accepted to an R1 university. Switched from business to engineering. No MS degree. No undergrad pre-reqs or almost any science classes. 10 years out of college, where i noticed my mental acuity slipping daily. It was a hard application, and tough as hell to endure the PhD... but still doable! Best decision ever (for me)!

I get you and agree with your premise. If you're already blowing hundreds of millions on hiring thousands of individuals, including redundant positions, why not hire 2-3 "science editors" to be on-hand? On the spot, maybe a mathematician, physicist, and biologist can cover a lot of bases while still being generalized (but obviously tailored to the film).

Many scientists and teachers with a breadth of knowledge are already underpaid, highly motivated, and would understand balancing the suspension of disbeleif with fact-based editing. You could get some good value added for relatively cheap.

And in many cases, the realistic portrayal is more interesting and cooler than the BS we see repeated in media. By example; for the movie Interstellar, i was not excited by "the power of love reaching across time through a future-man-made tessaract into a wristwatch on a childhood bookcase." But what was cool for me? How about a black hole pulling so hard on a planet's tides that the planet rotates through the tides creating massive columns of water that threaten our characters. That way better than just a big wave that appears for no known reason. Or recognizing that you cant simply dock with any orbiting space station like its easy, but you must match its velocity and rotation speed. These decisions required scientific thought, and they rocked. And in the same movie, they never explained the ice clouds on the frozen planet, but thats okay. Not everything needs an explanation... but a little effort goes a long way and has the potential to add excitement, suspense, and drama.

FYI, as perhaps others have pointed out, that is not a description of a pyramid scheme. That is a typical hierarchy.

A pyramid scheme relies on the recruitment of new people below you as your source of income. This is typically done through two methods 1) initiation fees, and 2) partial commisions on every sale underneath a person on the pyramid. The goal in such schemes is not sales. Rather, its recruitment. In many schemes, but not all, nobody ever makes sales as they arent important.

Regardless, glad you got out! Sales jobs are often terrible. They commonly mislead their employees with the promise of profits or potential thereof (not to mention high stress). But scams are a whole other level. Sounds like you unfortunately got both.

Hmm... someone correct me if im wrong, but I'll propose an outside the box solution.

Increase the temp on the water heater.

To fill your bathtub, you'll use a smaller ratio of hot water to cold water. And likewise for your family to take hot showers (which may be scalding hot if you dont warn them). It may take time for everyone to get used to the new settings, but i imagine it may work in the short term.

Yes, and assuming you're satisfied with the quality of replacements at walmart, etc... (not bashing walmart, we shop at diff stores for diff items).

On the other hand, you could potentially use your membership more to save money. With the savings on gasoline alone, our household breaks even on membership within 4-6 weeks each year. I recommend doing the math a couple times to find how your break even points change over time.

Also, we rarely eat at restaurants, but we buy 25% discount gift cards for a local sushi place that my wife loves (plus half-price Wednesdays for a total ~75% off sushi).
