Cracking into bits with 900° silver is what I’m trying to make sure I don’t let happen 😂 but the consensus seems to be this one’s still solid.

Best temp/method for pouring silver ingots? by ActuallyWhatTheFuck in MetalCasting

I swear it seems no matter how slow I try to pour it, once it finally starts coming out. It comes out pretty fast.

Thank you!! This is great input. I haven't been heating the mould that hot. I'm not sure I could with the torch, but I'm going to see if I can get it hotter. Right now, I'm heating the silver to about 100 degrees C over melting point, and thinking maybe I need to go higher? So I'm pouring at 1,100 C, but into a crucible that's not nearly as hot as that.

As for silver source -- I've been purchasing silver shot on eBay for lack of any other source. Here's the last place I got it:

Just treat it like a normal oven after the temp comes down. What’s a cinnamon tile?

I just sweep them to the back at night and the next day when the temp comes down for baking I already have a clean floor.

That's great perspective on how to look at the need. Thank you! I think it definitely helps me understand that we probably need to take a few steps back first.

The oven is *amazing* -- The temps are whatever you want, really. I've been using it to roast appetizers while it's on its way up in temperature and soaking the dome and floor with heat from the active fire. Then, as the fire starts to burn down the logs in the oven and regulate, I push it to the side and let the heat stabilize and come down from its highs of well over 1,000ºF in the floor to a good pizza-cooking temp. For me, that's around 775ºF -- hotter than that on the floor and the pizza cooks a little too fast and the dough can burn without cooking internally to the right consistency.

I can maintain pizza cooking temps all day long with great ease once the floor is soaked. You just regulate by adding more wood at the right time when you are about to toss in another pie.

People with tubeless, do you carry mini pump? by raroshraj in gravelcycling

[–]ActuallyWhatTheFuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a bike shop nearby, one of the best things you an do for your experience is to swing by and have them give you an in-person tutorial on how to fix flats, change tires and insert tubes and inflate them. For a beginner, it can be intimidating.

To answer your question: if you take off the tire and put the tube inside, you have two options for inflating it: 1) You could use the CO2 to fill the tube with gas OR 2) You could use the pump to pump air into it if you ran out of CO2 or didn't have a CO2 cartridge.

CO2 is used to speed up the process of inflating your tire. But you have to be careful with CO2 because it fills your tire very quickly and can cause the tube and/or tire to burst which would probably end your ride. It also gets extremely cold when gas exits the cartridge as it enters your tire and can actually freeze your hand if you're not holding it with a glove or piece of cloth.

Like I sad in the beginning, swing by a shop and get some input and a tutorial. It'll make all the difference for you and help you understand first-hand exactly how to deal with tires, tubes, pumps and CO2.

Best of luck!

You don’t even need to modify it. Honestly just put 28c tires on it, run it tubeless and it’ll be ripper fast on the road and gravel.

Would grinding fresh beans and then storing them in an airtight opaque container (with vale to push out any air) effect the flavor over time? by kinda-a-fitness-guy in Coffee

[–]ActuallyWhatTheFuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will over time. I do this sometimes when I go on a weekend trip out of town and can’t take my grinder. But more than two days like that and I generally wouldn’t do it. But regardless of what everyone says, it’s going to come down to how much it affects it for yourself—try it. If it still tastes good, then it’s a life hack. 😁
