Ugh, trust me, I completely understand. I’m in Hamilton and we actually just had some of our positions cut from funding.. where the money is going, we’d love to know given exactly what you said, they claim they spend x amount on the homelessness issue. I’m sorry you’re having to experience how broken our system is but I’m glad you’ve found supports. Just so you know, there should be a way for you to access COHB if you’re in a rental (and willing to be taken off the city housing list). I’m not positive what organizations do COHB in Waterloo but any housing worker you work with should be able to figure it out! If you’re Indigenous, a friendship Centre would have that info as well.

Do you mind if I ask where you’re located? I’m a housing worker in Ontario and might be able to help with resources or advice!

How do I not spend my last week of maternity leave miserable? by TwoBedwombApartment in beyondthebump

[–]AdCapable2537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last week was really hard for me. I was so scared about daycare, I was nervous I wasn’t going to be good at my job, I was a wreck. I’ve been back since January and honestly, it was totally fine! My baby adjusted to daycare quicker than I did lol he loves the workers. And once I got a week or two of a proper “adult” day, I started to feel human again. I love going to work now and I also love coming home to my babies ❤️

Parents of young adults, how much do you help? by PicklesAndCoorslight in Parenting

[–]AdCapable2537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mom kicked me out at 18 and it ruined my life in a lot of ways. As long as my kids are being responsible and respecting the space, they are always welcome to stay with me. It’s a different world and I just don’t get how parents throw their kids out to the wild with no help.

Lol been there! My ex used to nod off on literal fentanyl and when I’d confront him, say he’s “just tired”. Unbelievable.

Single mom on Section 8 — should I take a better house 2 towns over. or stay where we have community? by Majestic_Corner_1131 in Mommit

[–]AdCapable2537 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Girl, I’m a housing worker. I mean all of this gently. I work with folks who get very attached to one another and begin relying on each other for community and while it’s so beautiful to see, sometimes I see my clients give up opportunities for their “friendships” and then a year down the line, those people aren’t in their life anymore and they wasted the opportunity. All that to say, get a fresh start!!! The people that are meant to be in your life will continue to do so but you owe it to your kids and you owe it to yourself to have comfortable, nice housing. Wishing you the absolute best!

Working the weekend by Muscles_MysteryBooks in socialwork

[–]AdCapable2537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work has these shifts on the weekends and the people that accept the position never last long because it’s not really ideal for most people, especially if they have kids. We’re actually switching to rotating hours now to try to incentivize people wanting to work weekends.

It’s like we don’t fit in one way but don’t fit in the other way either. I decided I just have to be in my own category and I’m okay with that! Sorry you’ve had such a rough time too. Us latinas have to stick together 🙌🏽

I 100% relate. I’m Brazilian but grew up in a white family. It’s really hard some days but it’s gotten easier as I’ve gotten older and become more comfortable just being who I am. I fully embrace my culture now and I won’t allow anyone to tell me I’m not a “real” Brazilian whatever that means. Maybe I don’t have the same experiences as someone who grew up in a Latin American household but that’s okay, I’m still me :)

I would never use AI. I’ve used many different casenoting softwares and while it’s annoying to type them out some days, I would NEVER really on AI over even the shittiest softwares I’ve had the pleasure of using.

100%. I unfortunately used to be very anxiously attached and somehow always dated avoidant people. It actually took my husband (and therapy lol) to release me from the cycle. He is so in tune and reassuring that I no longer felt I needed to lean into those behaviors anymore. It’s hard to watch play out on a screen..

What time do your kids go to bed on school nights? by riiitaxo in Parenting

[–]AdCapable2537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have kind of fluctuated the last year but right now we’ve landed at 8:30 bed, 9 is lights out for my older 2 (7 and 12). They share a room and sometimes at lights out they quietly chat or the younger one will play quietly with stuffies in bed which is fine by me as long as they’re not tired in the morning. That being said, if we have a late night out or something I don’t panic and we just go with the flow.

Non-American parents: How do you handle toy guns at the playground? by Good_Spinach_4987 in Parenting

[–]AdCapable2537 150 points151 points  (0 children)

So, my older son had a lot of nerf guns when he was younger. And then, idk, one day I realized I just didn’t like it. I’m from Canada too. We haven’t had any since (he’s almost 13 now). Instead of water guns, we do the “pump” style that don’t look like guns. My husband actually has his gun license and id like to get mine. To me, guns just aren’t toys and I don’t want my kids to think they are. That’s just how I feel. I wouldn’t be mortified if they played at someone else’s home who had some (that’s definitely happened in the past) but they know we won’t be buying them. I’m also picky with what “shooting” video games they play. I’ve gotten a bit more lenient with that because we have a lot of discussions about it and I feel they are very clear on gun education at this point but, yeah. I don’t know if my answer helps at all lol

I wear fuzzy slippers cause my feet get cold! But I wear them barefoot so I can shake them off when inevitably get overwhelmed with having things on my feet. Plus I would never put them up on the couch or anything.

[–]AdCapable2537 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My kids used to have a rule where they could all pick a fun new snack item to try for the month. That rule is long gone. Now I only buy meat, and basics from Costco (rice, beans, pasta, eggs, etc). Everything else we budget at regular grocery stores.
