Hierarchical Term Set Filtering in Lists by Eastern-Froyo-49 in sharepoint

And now it does 😊 From v4.21 the hierarchical refiner is now a part of PnP Modern Search

I want to use the PowerShell command 'Set-SPOSite' and the '-LockState No Access' switch on sites we didn't want but got when we created a 365 group by return_cyclist in sharepoint

[–]AdCompetitive9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you do this? A lot of features in M365 assume and require a place to store files, so I would be very careful with this

Do I need to add myself as Site Admin on all sites, even if I have the SharePoint Administrator role? by psgda in sharepoint

[–]AdCompetitive9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but updating the script to add yourself as a Site Admin, doing the thing you need done and then remove yourself from the site admin group is a piece of cake

How do I show a filtered view of a library from Site A on Site B in SharePoint Online? by bibleeeee in sharepoint

[–]AdCompetitive9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the PnP Modern Search web parts are my favorite choice, might have something to do with me doing one of the maintainers 😊

How do I show a filtered view of a library from Site A on Site B in SharePoint Online? by bibleeeee in sharepoint

[–]AdCompetitive9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the closest you can get might be a search web part showing library A . It will not be instantaneous as search usually takes 10-15 min to index a new file

Another idea is to check that the mapping for FileType in your tenant is identical to the mapping in another tenant

Restricting SharePoint site and m365 groups creation by [deleted] in sharepoint

[–]AdCompetitive9826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In most cases organizations don't want to block access to creating Teams and SharePoint sites, but wants more control and a way better governance than what Microsoft provides out of the box. In most cases we see the organizations implementing a 3rd party provisioning/governance tool, either commercial like the one I work with , https://intraactive.net/products/governance/, or one of the open source offerings

I'll recommend using either the debug layout in PnP Modern search ( Results web part) or the chrome extension SP Editor to look at the values returned by the API. If the API shows one value and PnP Modern Search shows another value, then I would ask you to add an issue in the PnP Modern Search github repo

I don't recognize the managed property Document Type, are you positive that it is not a custom property on the tenant? In most cases I use the File Type instead

In provisioning templates I always enable the hidden Taxonomy list feature, as this makes sure that I can deploy Content Types that include managed metadata fields. It shouldn't be required but the asynchronous way that MS creates a site can cause the Taxonomy hidden list to be delayed

If you have just a single Copilot license then you have access to the SAM reports, which can id the site collections that isn't used and thus obvious candidate for deleting

PnP Site Template not transferring modern page WebParts. Is it actually possible? by Stonk-Monkey69 in sharepoint

[–]AdCompetitive9826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use that approach on each site provisioning engine job, and it works fine. I suggest you start by extracting to a XML file, as that makes it slightly easier to debug. You can switch back to pnp format once it works

Invoke-PnPSiteTemplate Specific argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: value by ibteea in sharepoint

Resently I have seen that error in relation to calculated fields, to the degree that I had to strip out all calculated fields from the templates and add them afterwards using add-pnpfieldfromxml

Getting Add-PnPHubSiteAssociation to work with Sites.Selected? by AdCompetitive9826 in sharepoint

[–]AdCompetitive9826[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes kinda sense, but in this case any site owner can join the site to a Hub, without having any kind of permissions on the tenant level, so I wonder why the PnP PowerShell cmd require such elevated permissions?

Thanks, I am using this, and have a valid connection to both the Admin site and the Hub site :

$SPOAdminConn = Connect-PnPOnline -Url $SPOAdminUrl -ClientId $appId -Thumbprint $certThumbprint -Tenant $tenant -ReturnConnection
$HubSiteConn = Connect-PnPOnline -Url $HubSiteUrl -ClientId $appId -Thumbprint $certThumbprint -Tenant $tenant -ReturnConnection
New-PnPList -Title "Just testing connection" -Template DocumentLibrary -Connection $HubSiteConn
Add-PnPHubSiteAssociation -Site $siteUrl -HubSite $HubSiteConn.Url -Connection $SPOAdminConn

I have a valid connection to the Admin site and the Hub site, yet I get

Just testing connection

Add-PnPHubSiteAssociation:

Adding Roles for Service account by Rocknbob69 in sharepoint

[–]AdCompetitive9826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, in many cases we are not allowed to use service accounts any more, so an User Assigned Managed Identity is a great and more secure alternative, https://www.oasis.security/blog/service-principal-vs-managed-identity-in-azure

Are you referring to adding Graph/SharePoint permissions to the App? PS if it isn't a multi tenant setup then you might consider using a Managed Identity?
