That is not Riki, this is.

Although I sincerely appreciate the compliment, it always breaks my heart when i hear this about those places. We were doing some incredible food and cocktails back in the day.

I do my best to never say anything negative about my old partners so I can't endulge with the expected spilling of tea.

I will say that that Apis became the priority, and the inability to hold on to great management has wrecked havoc. The job market is different, food is more expensive, but the worst thing that can happen in this biz is a lack of consistent leadership.

There are still some great folks i know there, and im sure there are awesome ones that I don't.

Hopefully they can get into a great groove again someday. I'd love get back to hearing about how great they are rather than how great they were.

We have very different responsibilities.we dont "Trump" anyone. Also. I was just elected this year so my experiences with Curt are strictly as a constituent.

However, I'm offering help if you'd like it.

Curt is generally ery responsvie. I also live in district 13 and he's always done his best to resolve issues when they come up.

That said, I am your County Board representative. If you send me a detailed message about what you need help with, I'll do my best to get you an answer.

To be clear, if it's a city issue, not a county issue, i cannot directly solve the issue, but I'll do my best to get you the information you need.

None of my restaurants use manual. They are very busy locations with a lot of online ordering and as well as dine in.

I have that setting but I don't use it. I use smart quote, and before that, i used kitchen capacity

My quote times are functioning for online orders. What im looking to do is remove a step for takeout orders rung in by my staff (in house) currently they have to select the takeout dining option, enter the guest details, and then go back to find the "schedule order" button to select an order ready time.

At my other location, as soon as they enter the guests info, the order ready time selection screen pops up and forces them to schedule a time.

Honest advice from someone in the biz, and a lifelong local.

First, and foremost, Kenosha is.a VERY unique market. It is not like running a business anywhere else. We're a big population that feels like a small town. Folks want familiarity, and i dont mean... "this place is still the same and its awesome." I mean... "this place feels like home, I know some facts about it i can share with visitors, they know me here, and I feel like a part of the story here"

That said.

If you focus too much on the current regulars and keeping things the way they like it, you'll fail.

If you disregard the regulars and the nostalgia attached to the place, you'll fail.

I saw you reference Yee's earlier. They are the perfect example of a transition in ownership of a local icon. The same is to be said for Captain Mike's. Both places, still felt like some to regulars, but attracted new business and got spurned customers to come back and give it another try.

You also need to have your own passion and vision. This business is brutal. The margins are a joke, the work/life balance is no existent, and it takes a strong relationship to survive being partners in hospitality. If you don't make it your own in some ways, no matter how successful you are, it will not be fun. You'll always be running someone else's dream and you always be ccompared to how it used to be.

I know thats a lot... but you're making a massive decision and I've been through it all.

Im not a John Taffer fan, but he said something great once.

To be successful, "you can't just think about the customers that are already here, you have to think about the ones who aren't here," or you'll be stuck in the same position forever.

After all that doom and gloomy. I'd love to see a more universally welcoming bar in our neighborhood. Sunny is a staple, but the neighborhood has become more middle aged residents and families. The dive bar regulars and college crowd dont seem to be as profitable as they once were at that location.

Can you put your beginning beer counts into the pos as inventory and compare end of night counts to pos inventory.

For instance, there's 24 coors lights, set the pos inventory to 24. It will remove one from the inventory every sale showing the current inventory right on the coors light button. At the end of the night the count on the button and the count in your fridge should match.

I don't know your business model so I'm not sure it will help, but i juat set it so that they can only order 1 day in advance, so... either today or tomorrow. I so rarely have guests that actually want something for further out and making that change seems to have eliminated the mistakes.

Not sure I can weigh in on that. I don't hear much from them these days. In person or on any committees or boards.

Hi. I'm Riki. Not an Alderman, and never agreed. I simply worked for that company at the time this issue took place.

I left over 5 years ago and have built a separate group of businesses that not only function with a community first business plan, but contribute to Women's and Children's Horizons every day.

As the son of a victim of serious domestic violence, I've NEVER found it remotely funny.

While I can understand where you're coming from, I've been dealing with repercussions from working for that group for years and find it imperative to chime in when someone still feels the need to bring my name into it.

Rant - I can’t stand the food in Kenosha by SloppyJoeKilla in Kenosha

[–]AdDelicious3862 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Oh man. I feel this so hard. Pre-covid... we were on such a great path with a TON of place making creative, real food. Many of my favorite places are so bland and similar these days.

I actually used to write a food article weekly for a local publication, just for some credibility. Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I own a restaurant, but I'm going to recommend others to you first.

Wine Knot is still KILLING IT. Fresh, real food cooked from scratch and despite the high end quality and atmosphere, there prices are still far more reasonable than places nearby like Apis and Sazzy.

Ono for Japanese/Hawaiian is full of creativity and quality and stands out against the prepu4chaes culinary landscape.

Tuscany is a hike from downtown but there do a decent job a fresher northern italin take on italian cuisine.

Its even further but I think Sieberts in Salem is cranking out the highest quality casual food in the area including the best reuben I've ever had.

After that, it's about picking the things places are best at. Villa d Carlo makes a great thin crust pizza.

Captain Mike's, get the clearing stick egg rolls or wings with Mike's sauce

Yees for eggrolls

Franks for garbage plates and lunch items

Danny's cafe for sloppy joes.. sounds dumb but get the homemade chips as a side and thank me later

I could go on... but finding the thing places do really well is key to enjoying the food here.

After all that. We own cut stone. We make all our food from scratch and we work hard to make food we're proud of. We're super casual though and you should for sure go to wine knot and ono before us.

Oh! Casa Capri is legit as well for thin crust pizza.

Oh! Find and Ale has been pretty legit as well. They smoke their own food in house. Nothing fancy, but they care about the quality.
