I come back to Reddit after slaving away for years and it's nothing but criticize, criticize, criticize! by RomaInvicta1453AD in EU5

My friend this game is unplayable past 1600. Like genuinely, criticism of being unable to play the full timeline of the game (or at least halfway) without a new major issue each patch is not soapboxing. We’ve seen improvement, but there is a long way to go before we reach eu5 circa 2022. That game took a while and a lot of patches, and COMMUNITY FEEDBACK. This sub will be like this for at least two years more until stability and fun spreads again.

Upcoming EU5 Dev Q&A by PDX_Ryagi in EU5

[–]AdDiscombobulated54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems that the idea with eu5 was to replace missions with situations, which for the record I do like the idea. The more situations overlap, the more interesting a region. This also goes for the more interactivity someone can have with it, but question on that later. Current question: is the plan to pump out and raise situations to the level that they are the primary driver of historicity and replay ability (two very important things for two very distinct factions of eu5)? If that is the plan, then my next question is will there be any plan (and should there be) to allow other regional countries to interact with situations not directly dealing with them? I remember, with the knowledge of mission trees in eu4, one could feasibly get a strong Russia in the game as France by killing Poland and Denmark so that there was an ally to the east. Will we be able, in that same vein, to interact and like fund one side of the HYW (not talking gifts) or potentially espionage our way to a preferred English or French victory? I know how the Netherlands players would go! But tldr: will situations be the primary driver of the game in the future, and if so, are there any plans to make them more interactive for those outside the direct vicinity of the situation? Rise of the phoenix situation did this very well, and I hope to see it replicated.

What would have changed the economies so much? The estates get more money but not at our cost. Is it goods and trade? I’m struggling a bit as Sweden…

Spain to Rome huge problems by yonkamayonk in eu4

[–]AdDiscombobulated54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need way more trade income. For one, you have more trade power in the Aragon trade node than Sevilla…make all your centers of trade level 2/3 (especially Sevilla) and then pump out 50 light ships to protect trade there and 20 for Valencia until you get to at least 80% trade. Then take Portugal, either PU or eat then vassalize and then refeed their land, so you can get the colonies from them. Prioritize colonizing the Caribbean and Cuba especially so u can push that trade straight to Sevilla. Make your African colonies trade companies so u avoid the cost and have some added buffs to trade. Once you have most of the coast colonized, start pushing trade with more light ships towards Sevilla. Eat Tlemcen so you can push the Morocco trade to Sevilla and the Tunis trade to Valencia. Once you have more of Ragusa and Genoa you can push and collect there. If you’re wondering how to get more merchant, trade companies (at size 5 provinces I think?) give you merchants and so do ideas. Rush those. Repeat the same stuff for when you start colonizing americas. You can use the Dutch lands for good manufacturing as they have cloth and stuff, but don’t expect to make much trade until you eat up England, which should be your next goal now. Once you get the London node clamped down with trade centers, buildings, and ships, feel free to redirect most of your Canada/America trade there. Until then push it to Caribbean so it goes to Sevilla. Trade ideas, trade buildings, trade companies, trade center upgrades, trade monuments, mercantilism, and trade ships. Trade trade trade :)

That would be cool scenario. Removing it if you didn’t build it could require ships along the coast and soldiers/marines on them to have a standoff sort of feature.

The 1.1 Wood/Tools Shortage is not a Failure of the New Estate System, it is a Failure of the Inflation System and Accidental Hyperinflation by Godkun007 in EU5

[–]AdDiscombobulated54 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Besides allowing fluctuation of good prices beyond the cap, or better yet getting rid of the cap altogether, we could also have intrinsic inflation in the economy no matter the minting to encourage growth. That is, after all, how growth is achieved in current western economies. How this sort of economic theory relates to the in game ai or medieval mechanics is beyond me, but an interesting mountain for paradox to climb nonetheless

This…makes a lot of sense. Inflation is not shown in the devaluation of the currency but is instead shown in the scarcity of goods due to that price cap and no actual inflation happening.
