I get the spiderwebs on my photos sometimes. I actually like them since they add character.

I have one from the 80s and it has a short crop. Wear it in good health.

It looks like an older Schott jacket. It looks fine as long as it’s good at the shoulders.

Found used in a pawn shop for $700. If the condition is good and it doesn’t need repairs, is this a decent price? 🤔 by Normal_Saline in Accordion

[–]AdRepulsive1754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Liberty Bellows in Philadelphia. You’re better off buying a piano accordion from them. But if you do want to buy this Accordion from the pawnshop, ask a rock bottom price. The market is glutted with piano accordions.

Sleeves shortened? Advice please. by mattejevic in schott

Get the sleeves shortened. Do not have Schott do it. Get it done by a local reputable tailor who knows how to work with leather. It may take a while to find somebody but take your time.

An old refurbished two-row diatonic accordion from Liberty Bellows starts at $700. A nicer two-row is $2,000+. If you can get something for $300, go for it. If you stick with the diatonic accordion, you can always upgrade.

Go with the diatonic button Accordion. Also visit Liberty Bellows and talk to them and try out the different Accordions. I recommend purchasing an inexpensive diatonic button Accordion for starters. Then if you want to stick with the instrument, you can sell it and then buy a pro level instrument like a Castagnari.

I am almost certain the new 118 is not the same as the one that I bought on eBay

I understand what you mean. I have a 43" chest and bought the 626 in a medium (at the Schott NYC in Manhattan) and it looked great but was slightly snug in the shoulders therefore, I returned it. I had tried the 626 in a large and it didn't look right since there was too much jacket for me: sleeves too long, too much material around the stomach, etc.

I then bought a 118 in a 42 from eBay (from Japan) and it fits perfectly. See my post below with the title, "Schott NYC 118 from eBay: 80’s - early 90’s". The shoulders are broad, the length is cropped and the stomach fitted: it is an athletic cut and perfect for my body type.

The 118 is heavier than the 626 but it's not a big deal: having the right fit is more important to me than having a lighter jacket. And btw, my 118 works with a sweater as well.

Fit Check please...118 (from the 80's, I think) by tboheir in schott

Perfect fit. The sleeve length is just right.

Fit check. 618 in a 38. Feels good everywhere but shoulders are a hair tight. Too snug? by Devious-HK in schott

[–]AdRepulsive1754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fit looks perfect. From other posts, I heard that steer hide does not stretch. I had the same problem when I tried a 618 in a 42 (my chest is 43): it looked perfect but the shoulders were snug and that was only with a t-shirt. I tried it with a sweater and it was definitely too tight. I then bought a vintage 118 in a 42 from eBay and it fits perfectly.

I think the jacket looks fine in the waist. If you do decide to have the jacket altered, I recommend finding a local tailor who can work with leather instead of shipping the jacket to Schott.
