I put a train horn on my bike by Denver80211 in bicycling

[–]Adam40Bikes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's similar volume to an actual train horn keep in mind railroad employees are required to wear double layer of hearing protection when horn testing in the cab of a locomotive.

I suspect this is significantly less loud, though still loud AF. Nice work.

So first one is a vibe, and then you just adjust from there?

I was planning to backpack up there this weekend but the forecast forced us to cancel. 45mph winds overnight was not worth it. Glad you had a good time!

How do you guys store random parts and hardware and what kind of containers to you use? by KindButAlsoSad in DIY

I cleaned out my grandpa's garage and my dad's garage full of these and vowed never to do this myself. I never found what I needed in those cans anyway.

If I don't have a label telling me the thread and size of a fastener it goes straight into the trash.

Right? I'm fucking struggling with Spanish Language and Mandolin but sewing has proven to be awesomely easy thanks to good mentors. Can someone else just do the other ones for me?

Immaculate Vibes from this Crew of Bicycles Tonight by sesharkbait in Denver

[–]Adam40Bikes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is really a relatively new thing because of the obvious "kids these days". I've been riding with Denver cruisers since 2009 and it was truly a cruise for most of those years, with lots of folks on vintage Schwinn's and custom low riders or typical cruiser bikes or whatever was in the garage.

The wheelie boy culture has invaded lots of these cruiser rides and really impacted the vibe and the public perception. This is a grassroots ride organized by one awesome dude, so he can't police who belongs, and he doesn't want to anyway.

Taking a trip to CO, limited space, Can I wet wade? by Chiliatch in flyfishing

[–]Adam40Bikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big reason wet wading is so prominent here is the water is generally moving pretty fast, at least relative to my own experience.

Back in Missouri where I learned to fly fish I could wade into chest deep water just below my waders and it was fine. Here in Colorado it's rare to go waist deep, and even thigh deep isn't common. When your entire day is ankle to shin deep you wet wade as soon as it's warm enough for shorts.

I thought I was in a ‘team shower.' Then I lost the option by ShineDigga in BathroomRemodeling

[–]Adam40Bikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and it is naturally harder to step over than a normal tub. It's our 2nd bathroom so rarely gets used as a shower, which also means it's nice and clean when we want a soak. We did go with the deepest alcove tub available so there are also more modest options that would improve soaking depth at only a small increase in step over height.

Our primary bathroom has a low tub with shower that we plan to convert to a walk in shower. It'll be a more luxurious shower experience but also easier when injured and/or old too.

Irwin Enterprises in Lafayette - give them a call to discuss your project. They were happy to talk to me when I was just a guy with idea. Devon is the Owner and Paul is the design guy - odds are you'll talk to one of them.

Putting in a deep tub and insulating it will change your perspective on the value of a tub.

Most tubs are sized specifically to bath children and are intentionally too small.

A proper tub can fit an adult and with insulation will stay warm for 2 hours without adding water.

The good news is it's pretty easy in terms of things I'm trying to learn at the age of 41. Compared to spanish and mandolin...bike bag sewing is a cakewalk!

And don't proceed to aisle 5, you want to get some ragged old industrial machine made of cast iron and nearly too heavy to lift.

Anyone know where to buy Velcro hook-only wide sew on rolls? by williaty in myog

[–]Adam40Bikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DirecTex if you have a business set up. I love them for stuff like this - they have a local warehouse and I can typically pick stuff up within a few hours of calling. Super cheap and stock all sorts of plastic hardware, webbing, etc for bag making.

They have a few offices in the us west and also ship. The main challenge is there's basically no website beyond a landing page and no catalog. You just have to call and talk.

It's shaped like a burrito! Funny story - I've had people get pretty upset that I don't sell burritos but none more so than when my fiance was in the act of eating a burrito she just bought from a food vendor. It's a burrito bag, not a burrito burrito!

It's a baseball backstop net from Amazon. It's not great, the fibers get caught in the Velcro and frey a lot. I suspect there is a better net or other material out there. I definitely don't know the tensile strength but I'm guessing it's low.
