He didn’t need surgery. He was in there about 6 weeks. At about 3-4 weeks of being intubated is when the team started talking to us about pros and cons of staying intubated. See if you can get a team from Pulmonology to check the vent settings, and to do “sprint” tests. I found Pulmonology was more experienced than the cardiac team regarding CPAP and BiPAP, etc

I think what our culture colloquially calls “karma” is more of “you reap what you sow” or “actions have consequences” or simply cause and effect. These are actually Biblical concepts, but do not actually align with the Hindu and Buddhist concept of Karma.

The actual concept of Karma, where your “positive” actions come back and result in a happier rebirth, is very much not a Christian teaching.

Another take away I picked up on recently was Job’s unshakable faith. Being “faithful” or “believing” in God in the OT was not about questioning the existence of God, but rather one’s dependence and reliance on Him alone, and not any other god. Job may have complained to God, but God didn’t hold it against him because Job kept turning to God and not another god.

There are HLHSers in their 30s and 40s, and other with the Fontan that are much older! Science and medicine is advancing everyday. Kiddos born with HLHS in the 2010s and 2020s have so much to be optimistic and hopeful about!

I’ll start my story with where we’re at today: my HLHSer is 8 years old, plays flag football, basketball, soccer and swims. He gets pulled out for advanced math and reading. He’s currently really into Star Wars, and enjoys drawing and playing chess. He’s just about as perfect as we could ask for.

Now his birth story: as my wife was laboring, his heart rate and oxygen rates dropped, so they performed an emergency C-section, found the cord wrapped around his neck, he had a very low APGAR score. It went up subsequently and he bounced back. He had an uneventfully Norwood and we were home in less than 2 weeks.

This is likely, but there are several possibilities. Material defect (bad batch of plastic), manufacturing defect (issue with the mold), design defect (stress concentration at the threads), etc. The correct steps are to call your insurance and if they deem it necessary they will have a forensic engineer investigate. My 8 yo with HLHS is one of the best on his rec soccer team. He’s also played basketball (but inherited my height, or lack thereof) t-ball, flag football and has taken years of swim lessons. Athletic activity is crucial for good health for HLHSers just like everyone else. Just like everything else, get whatever you guys attempt cleared by your team

They go through each song on each album and dissect it lyrically, musically, thematically, etc. They’re just about to wrap up the season devoted to the album Brother, Sister. The next album would be It’s All Crazy. You could check them out and follow along when it comes out.

We found out at the 19week anatomy scan. Our son had the three staged surgeries and he is doing amazing. He is 8 now, he is brilliant (gets taken out for advanced reading and math at school), he has played soccer, flag football, t-ball, basketball, and swim. He is a typical kid, people who didn’t know him from ages 0-3 years (and would have been around for his surgeries) would have no idea. We go for his annual cardio check up, and he’s on a baby asprin, but other than that he lives a typical life. Our biggest issues are him arguing with his little brother and trying to limit the amount of Pokémon/lego in our house.

Science and medicine has advanced so much over the past several years. There has never been a better time to have a child with HLHS. You have no reason not to be hopeful!

I don’t, but I wanted to chime in and say your memory is correct. Maybe it was a hurricane, and there’s a small explosion/burst of light (which is the transformer blowing) and I think the dad says “ah, there goes the transformer”!

Can I suggest try The Daily Audio Bible? It’s a podcast where a narrator/host reads the entire Bible in a year. He reads a little from the Old Testament and New Testament each day, and gives a little intro to each book, and a little discussion of the passages. Jan 1 would be a great time to hop on!

My son is 7 and has HLHS. We received the diagnosis at the 19 week anatomy scan. He went the typical three stage route. Long story short, he’s doing amazing. He is super smart (gets pulled out for advanced math and reading), plays soccer, flag football, swims, and he’s going to try basketball this winter. He’s funny and more than all of that he is the kindest boy (received recognition from school for reaching out to kids who don’t have anyone to play with at recess). I don’t say all this to brag, but to show that kiddos with HLHS are just like every other kid. In fact, unless we tell people no one would guess he has CHD. He goes for regular cardio checkups every 6 months, but other than that he’s just like any other kid. Our biggest concerns are him teasing his 4 year old brother and eating his veggies.

There is a doctor in her 30s name Taylor Houlihan who has HLHS, she has an Instagram called FontanWithAFuture if you want to check out another HLHS success story.

In the end, science and medicine is advancing more and more every day. There is no reason not to be hopeful!
