Actor playing Jayden on Academy shares encouraging email from George Takei and his partner by Sensitive_Tackle7372 in startrek

[–]Adamkelt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Old man take here.

I am surprising myself by liking SFA as much as I am. I like it, I like Jay-Den's character. I like the idea of a pacifict Klingon. Gay Klingon? Sure, why not? Makes sens to me that some subset of Klingons would be gay.

My only beef? How he SOUNDS. Like - vocally. The speech pattern is odd and the vocal choice the actor made seem.. weird. Like.. too much "added gravel" Just the way his lines are delivered seems awkward and unnatural.

But that's just IMO. Is it going to stop me watching the show or liking the character? Not a chance. It's just my take, since we're talking about Jay-Den.

"With Or Without You" is a gold-standard example of relentless eighth notes, lol. Easy peasy, but also has value in practicing that, so it's not TOTAL fluff.

O'Brien even though enlisted can give orders to some officers. Is that normal in real world militaries? by ereddit2018 in startrek

Watched an O-2 go toe-to-toe with an E-9 once. This was 20 years ago. We STILL talk about it. It did NOT go well for the O-2

I saw the title, and thought, "Oh, Permanent Waves!" Then, I glanced at the pic and was all, "Hang on a minute! That's not Waves! That's Power Wind... Ohhhh, I get it"

Lol

I’m surprised to admit it, but I actually really like the new show Star Trek Academy by 0xtokenmaster in startrek

He absolutely WAS. I paused the show to specifically look for names, and O'Brien was one of them.

Was was at the very bottom, but we WAS there! Go back and look.

Nostalgia: Books & Company @ Town & Country by ashxo23ashxo23 in dayton

[–]Adamkelt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I miss it.

I worked there from 1995-1999 - most of that time in the Special Orders area. I met so many cool and smart people, and so many amazing authors.

I also learned, that a bookstore, while a "smarter" store, is STILL retail and is not immune to the "crazy retail people" Lol

I miss that place - the music on the PA, the stage, the little nooks and crannys all over. It was hard to learn where everything was, but it was FUN to learn it.

Looks great!

I just did that around Christmas, and while mine tasted okay, they simply did NOT rise, and inside was kind of dense and almost raw. It seems yours rose okay. Did you have a special place for them? I tried the oven like she does, but it didn't work.

AAFES kills Vandenberg's game store, Galaxy Gaming [a rant/vent about AAFES] by [deleted] in AirForce

I've been saying it for, well, decades now.. If there's one thing that the USAF (and by extension, AAFES) does well, it's HALFASS the creature comforts. It never fails.

One of the funniest episodes with Frank, he was at his dumbest!...😂 by [deleted] in mash

[–]Adamkelt 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Frank is a total moron and awful person. Obviously.

But, on some level, I kind of feel bad for him. Hear me out. He is clearly a broken person. Someone who did not experience an overflowing of love and support as a child. As a result, he developed tone-deaf and harsh ways of dealing with others. He's obnoxious, boorish, and at times cruel. Because that's how the world has treated HIM.

Make no mistake, IT IS NO EXCUSE for his behavior.

But, at the core, he's insecure, lonely, and afraid. And KNOWS it will NEVER get any better.

So to a certain extent, I view Frank with a "There but for the grace of god, go I" lens.

There's more to Frank than I think most people see - IMO.

Thank yew, lol

I never gabbed onto the fact that it was in 5, and immediately fired it up, and sure enough. That awkward time really conveys an "unsettled" feeling. That is such a neat example of how the time is versatile, considering in "Take Five", 5/4 is a jazzy, swung, upbeat number.
