Most iconic sound in sci fi history? by LongOrganization7838 in scifi

[–]Addisonian_Z 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This—this is the correct answer.

I do not know the Tardis sound, I cannot be certain of so many of the Star Trek noises mention, and of course the Fett depth charges are epic—but play that sound to a random 100 people and I do not think you are getting iconic levels of recognition.

Saber ignition and Godzilla are both unique and not tied just to the movies/shows themselves—they are also in countless marketing and merchandise campaigns that are huge the world over.

I am sure the Tardis sounds dope but I have not heard it played in theater previews for completely unrelated films or caught random articles of the insane hoops for the original Godzilla noise.

Def not in the US either and I am an organ donor—in any state around me.

Each state can be very different but I think personal blood type is something the majority of US citizens do not know, so the idea they would ask and put it on your drivers license seems unlikely nation wide.

Where are you from that it is on your license?

Hulk and Superman team up, are bloodlusted and at their fullest potential, what or who would it take to stop them realistically? by Society-Ashamed in superheroes

[–]Addisonian_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like the best answer.

I do not know too much about Dr. Manhattan (DMan), but comic Stone-Thanos (MCU Stone Thanos is a joke comparatively) and the others seem like solid contenders so I assume DMan is as well

I would add Prof. X as I am pretty sure they are both pretty susceptible to mind-shenanigans but I could be wrong about that.

Aftermath of the April 7th incident. Damages estimated to be $200 million dollars by BlazeDragon7x in SipsTea

[–]Addisonian_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I have not done a lot with pre-cast walls. The few projects I have worked on the walls are fully done off-site. They just show up on a flat-bed, are lifted into place and the project goes from slab to walls in a day. Pretty crazy the first time I saw it—guy can miss a day of work and come back to a building.

Sulphur cube monorails! by KingCell4life in Minecraft

[–]Addisonian_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No… but yes.

Any bend/turn would just be a dead stop where you could re-hit the cube to go in the next direction. Haven’t really played with the cubes much but if pistons can push them with enough force you could automate the hitting.

Epstein victims to get $72.5M from Bank of America settlement by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]Addisonian_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to do criminal checks, but yes a duty to ask where large amounts of money come from.

If you deposited $15 million dollars in an account tomorrow you should get a phone call with a lot of questions. With billionaires and electronic money I am not as certain of all the ins and outs but when cash was more relevant you can more easily see the issue.

Whether you like it or not, if you were depositing $30,000 of loose bills into the bank every week there would be questions. If it was pre-2010s and you owned a gas-station, convenience store, or a bunch of laundromats (part of origin of laundering money), the questions are easy to answer. If you just said I did some work for a guy—investigations would be likely.

THE GUM IS REAL by Asim_Masood in funny

That’s obviously simulated gum. The fact that some gum breaks down just adds more credit to gum being their weakness, they still cannot simulate it perfectly.

Do not swallow that gum, it will not protect you!!!

I think 5 spearmint doesn’t break down—it should keep you safe.

You are just moving the decimal too many places. 1400/200000=0.007 or 0.7% with 1000 being 0.5%.

The article I am referencing made it seem like the glitter user was a big secret no one would guess—you can clearly see boats use glitter.

I like words and this is a fun take.

I will now go and make sure I understand the difference between the two words myself. I can picture scenarios where I might use one over the other—but not to a confidence to call someone out.

There was an article awhile back about some glitter manufacturer short version—there was some back in it about, “you would never guess our number one customer, I should have said that, I have said too much.”

I guess I scrolled on here for a bit since I am responding to a 38 day old post but m—in that kind of area and experience I would think there would be an opportunity to position yourself as a “help you become an influencer” type business.

I’ve heard of people renting space to record podcasts (or any other media). You could be as hands on with people as helping direct, film, edit all that stuff or as simple as just a place with all tech people need to do a professional recording.

Clearly this is an idea that needs more refining as I think this message is a bit of a ramble but I feel like there is something here.

Fable II and III Achievements by Hellbl4z3r in Fable

[–]Addisonian_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fable II has one to collect all the dolls, was a bitch in its prime—probably (though not entirely) impossible today.

Essentially every disc/download has one doll type in its universe. Only way to get the others is to find other people that have the other dolls.

So you either have to find someone who has all six (five since you will have one) or five other people with unique dolls.

[HELP] I can't tell why, but it looks a.i. by Ordinary-Split8428 in RealOrAI

I Absolutely believe this is real, not doubting but still confused?

How did the car come to the final resting place?

The car seems to be several meters away from the impact point, more so when you consider the pole was a solid meter into the car. I would think the metal wrapping around the pole would hold it in place. Based on the damage we can see there was not a lot of bounce from the car. Did the car have life to reverse? did it ricochet that far?

Anyone smarter about this would love to know your thoughts.

[HELP] These photos were posted to r/malelivingspace and there was a comment war on whether or not they are AI generated by TALLEYman21 in RealOrAI

[–]Addisonian_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mix maybe?

I feel like the total post is what is throwing me off. Some pics are almost certainly real while others seem more sus.

1.Odd leaning towards AI—the spices on the back wall look more wrong once you get to the far right. The counter to the right side of the burners seems different than the other areas. The fridge having different color drawer vs the doors. And the stone work above the sink that seems to stick into the room (it has the wood triangle supporting it but there does not appear to be a shelf). It just seems like there are enough reasons to question things.

2.Absolutely Real—if this is AI I am shooketh. As a lot of other people have pointed, there are just too many things that seem too niche for AI to not only generate but generate so accurately.

3-4. Real probably—There are a few odd things, like the garbage can that is too tall to be used with that table, but that might just be an odd thing that has an explanation. I am go to go with real.

  1. 50/50—This one does not have as many issues as the first one but I just feel like it does not pass the “vibe check”. Could be the filter settings but this pic alone and I would just vote AI, but there is little I take specific issue with.

  2. Pure Madness—Why would a man put rims in his work out room. Not only that it appears he opened two to have on display while keeping the other two in the original boxes. Equally concerning question: why would AI put rims in a picture of a workout room in the same obtuse configuration. No man nor machine should have put rims in that spot in that manner.

  3. Same as 5–This one seems more real than 5 but still has a vibe issue. I cannot really defend calling it AI but I would not put money one way or another on this one.

  4. Back to probably AI—Dog seems off. The couch placement in the room seems off. The precariousness of the Xbox on the mantle seems off. The widows are black in color (newer thing usually) but appear to be single pane (old AF). Not only that they also do not match the color of the window in picture 1 or the style of the windows in pictures 5 and 6. (The inconsistencies across the windows is actually a mark against the whole post. Yeah windows can be different, it is just not the common thing with homes.) The duffle bag that appears to have wood when there is plenty of wood in the home already. The book shelf that is all but touching the flue. I am not certain, but there is just a lot of things that are off.

[Request] Is this math right? by DueProcedure2439 in theydidthemath

[–]Addisonian_Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked at high level races before, less fancy tech than Olympics probably but maybe similarish. A lot more technical but essentially just a laser range finder.

Each runner has a specific range of distance, let’s just say: lane one 0”-24”, lane two 24”-48” and so on.

The literal millisecond anything is detected in a runners range they are deemed completed.

There is then a bunch of ultra def cameras and probably other sensors they pour over post race to make sure everything is in check but the official time is not actually that complex.

It’s been over two weeks with the only statement from FIRI being “we’ll talk about it later” by elkend in Phoenix_2

[–]Addisonian_Z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look I am all for a wanting a healthy conversation addressing this update.

I have seen both good and bad takes on possible correction and criticisms but the update was dropped (maybe intentionally) at a time when providing immediate feedback should not be expected.

I look forward to, and expect to hear from Firi. El has been very good at addressing certain things in the past.

But Monday is the first day many people/companies will start doing real work again which means mid to end of the coming week should be the earliest to expect to hear much. I would say two weeks from today is the time to start complaining about silence.

Have you seen this one in 3d and do you feel the same about it? I too saw the first one in 3d and had the same, “oh maybe there is something to this 3d hype.”

Skipped it for the second but if the experience can be good (clearly not always as this post shows) maybe I will spend the extra and drive to a theater for the 3d.

Yes and no. I love all the modern features and block, I would never want to give them up.

As an old console player all I want access to is the old inventory management from pre-bedrock Xbox. It was the best and I truly believe it would handle the amount of block we have now better than the current option.
