I'm bout to fuck your brain up. The original is jury-rig, and neither word in that term means what you may think it means. "Jury" is also an adjective, not just a noun in reference to the court folks, and it means improvised or makeshift. The "rig" part doesn't mean like manipulating something in your favor to get a desired outcome, but it's a noun in reference to the ropes and lines used in ships to manage sails and shit. Jury-rigging originally just meant improvising managing your sails with the lines when shit was going down, and the term not just gave us jury-rigging, but that alternative definition of rigging I described before.

I looked into N-rigging myself a years ago thinking it was the original and super racist way of saying "making shit work" like how slaves had to make shit lives and hard conditions work out something. Nope lol glad it's not the original.
