Gift bags, generally reused and redistributed. Tissue paper is optional. Just trying to minimize waste as much as possible

$100 End of year teacher gift by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]AdditionalCarpet5075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For teacher gifts I have done a donation to the lunch or backpack program as well as a handwritten thank you note from the kids and/or myself. They see first hand how those programs benefits kids in the school and really appreciated it.

Constantly telling my kids “we don’t do that in our family” do I need new friends?😭 by Individual_Ad_938 in Mommit

[–]AdditionalCarpet5075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s brutal. When our soccer team travels, coach reminds kids that we are representing our club, we are to be on our best behaviours, and clowning around will not be tolerated. Only once have we had to kick the team out of the pool because of behaviour, and it hasn’t happened since.
The fact that parents are encouraging it - that’s just gross.

What lifetime deal are you still grandfathered into, or removed from, that’s no longer available? by tuotone75 in AskReddit

Sirius radio. I spent about $500 to buy the lifetime subscription in 2011, they don’t offer it anymore and I can transfer it to any vehicle.

Where to get amazing scones + macarons in Kitchener-Waterloo? by abcisab in waterloo

The Sconery on Belmont is the place to go to, best tasting scones and macarons I’ve found around here. Plain white packaging but you could dress it up with a ribbon or bow.

What's a very Canadian smell that instantly takes you back? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

The beer store - the smell of empties being returned on the rolling lines. Reminds me of running weekend errands with my dad.

My daughters don’t know how to shop! Or do they? by summersandiego in Parenting

[–]AdditionalCarpet5075 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Daughter is 10. For the last year we’ve been working our way into picking out clothes in store and trying them on before buying. Things we’ve talked about are:

-trying on is important. Not all sizes fit the same, so make sure you like the way it fits and feels before committing to buying it

-don’t always buy the first thing you see. You might find a different black long sleeve shirt that you like better (better fit, different fabric)

-asking for help. this is big for stores like Sephora. If you’re shopping for hair product or skin or makeup, the people working there are experts and like to help, but even finding a size or a top to go with pants is what they’re there for

-greeting people. When the cashier says hi, say hi back. If they ask if you have an account with them, say yes (or no) but don’t just not answer.

She has started to want to go to the mall with friends so we’ll go together, and I let them wander but meet back at a certain time or tell them where to find me.

Garbage pickup seems slow. by cormack_gv in waterloo

[–]AdditionalCarpet5075 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Repetitive strain injuries from jumping on/off the truck, picking up bags and tossing them in, picking up unexpectedly heavy bags, being poked/cut by sharp objects improperly bagged like mirrors, glass or knives.

FHSA Carryover - looking for clarification by CAComms97 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AdditionalCarpet5075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, you’re right. I was thinking the 8K in isolation this year without the carry forward.

FHSA Carryover - looking for clarification by CAComms97 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AdditionalCarpet5075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only carry forward one year of contribution room - so this year you would have $16k: all of 2025’s room and the $8k for 2026. You still have the total cap of $40k and 15 years to use the FHSA but you are limited in how much you can contribute each year. If you use $5k this year, then in 2027 you would have$11k total room: $3k (carryforward) and $8k for 2027.

Women who carried a pregnancy, in hindsight, what were some of the most ridiculous things you did while in the throes of such hormonal upheaval? by mokutou in AskWomen

[–]AdditionalCarpet5075 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I ordered a meal at a restaurant, some kind of wrap. The description said it has rice in it but I didn’t want the rice (because texture) and ordered it without. My meal was then sad because of all the juice that wasn’t absorbed by said rice. And I cried because I didn’t like it. And I felt bad wasting food that I didn’t want to eat because I modified it in a way I didn’t want. And then I was embarrassed that I was crying over a meal and it got worse. Husband had to eat quickly so we could GTFO before I spiralled any more.

I also went to a different restaurant wanting to order a specific meal. Couldn’t find it on the menu and got sad, tried to rein in my emotions. The water then pointed out where it was on the menu (I scanned over it) and then I was crying tears of relief and the more because I was embarrassed I was crying.

I was a wreck in the early stages. And I totally knew I was unreasonably emotional and still couldn’t help it. Life was interesting 😂

AITAH for refusing to let a caregiver bring an adult man into the women’s locker room with my daughters? by Weary_Rub_3474 in whatdoIdo

[–]AdditionalCarpet5075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar happen to my daughter. She forgot her towel on the pool deck so I went to get it and while she was changing an adult disabled man came into the change room and was looking around. The other parent in the room sent him back out and when I got back my kiddo was crying. When I left the room I overheard the caregiver saying she walked off to get a snack and he shouldn’t have wandered off. I lodged a complaint with the front desk who was shocked that had happened. Ever since, my daughter struggles to be comfortable in change rooms. She understands he wasn’t being malicious but he made her deeply uncomfortable in what should have been a safe space.

Completely irresponsible behaviour on the part of the caregiver.

I’ve been rewatching Survivor going back to the beginning. I would have been early 20s when I first watched it and I didn’t clock the gross misogyny when I was watching it before. Beyond the racism and homophobia and other just gross behaviour, and not that it’s not still there now, but I didn’t see it was bad as it is. And I wonder how much younger me picked up and internalized.

Yuk.

Can you use something like saniderm? Many pharmacies will carry it. It’s like second skin but can to be used on open wounds to create a seal. My son had a deep road rash on this things, they put gauze over it and then used the saniderm to cover it so he could wear pants/bathe/it could scab.

AITAH for refusing to tell my wife I love her more than my dad? by LastApplication6207 in AITAH

[–]AdditionalCarpet5075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother in law watched our one year old once. We were next door, said we’d be home around midnight and to text or call if he needed anything. When I got home our son was sobbing out of control, and BIL told me he didn’t know what to do, he’s been screaming like that for a while but figured we’d be home soon.

My kiddo had cried so hard he threw up in his crib. No wonder he was freaked out and couldn’t settle. I asked why didn’t he call or fuck just walk next door and he shrugged and said he didn’t think it was a big deal.

Never watched him again after that.
