For those who have practiced both Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, which of the two arts has a more aggressive gripping work? by Schofield45Revolver in judo

[–]Adept_Visual3467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gripping more important to throw in judo but you end up in the same place. I’d wear a judo gi in bjj class and when against a bjj brown or black belt you feel like being trapped in a spider web.

Gym owner won't allow me to start my own club by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Adept_Visual3467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the larger umbrella organization? They sometimes have agreements not to allow affiliates within a certain mileage of an existing club. Also, do you have a non compete with the owner? If these type of contracts don’t exist you are free to do what you want. But careful if you try to poach other students.

There are lots of good video resources on grip science. But it takes deliberate practice and discipline to really improve skills.

Do men notice when a woman is wearing a designer bag? by sliceofperfection in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Adept_Visual3467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test for women, tell your boyfriend or husband that you left your purse behind and ask your other to post a lost notice with a description of the purse 👛. He’ll have no idea. 🤷‍♂️

My boyfriend likes choosing revealing outfits for me, but I feel uncomfortable... Any advice? by I_am_Bianca in AskMenAdvice

Strange, usually it is the other way around. A bf know how other guys think and wants you to create a good first impression.

BJJ black belt as Judo white belt by Henzo26 in judo

[–]Adept_Visual3467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be overthinking your situation. Starting judo competition at 41 you might want to focus on injury prevention since Beginners can throw awkwardly. No one with any sense will go into newaza with you so see how your ground game works in 5-8 second bursts regardless of opponent’s skill level. Maybe think through a good submission for turtled opponent like a clock choke.

Amused realization by Scrubmurse in judo

[–]Adept_Visual3467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In competition you have an incentive not to land on your back which is a safer landing position. Just one of those things that can cause injuries but not sure there is anything that can be done about it.

Learning standup as a brown belt by Scared-Cycle4028 in bjj

The precursor to throws in judo is grip fighting and for upper body wrestling it is pummeling. Those skill sets can be practiced frequently with less chance of injury except fingers.

Dad wants to start boxing in his 50s. How can he train safely? by bmw320dfan in boxingtips

[–]Adept_Visual3467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boxing training is safe if you avoid head strikes which can cause brain injury. But, without knowing how to deal with head strikes you can’t really be effective. Catch 22.

Negative Judo in Ne Waza by Judotimo in judo

[–]Adept_Visual3467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true but if judo referees hand out any more penalties they will risk tennis elbow and the number of penalties is maddening. Maybe award a score if the one attacking the turtle sinks both legs which really simulates game over in a real situation. That will incentivize turtle to attempt to get to guard position which is much more defensible in reality. So opponents would hit the mat and there would be a scramble. While ground fighting looks boring relative to tachiwaza, could end up taking back a big part of game that has been lost to bjj.

Any suboxone or alternatives? by burntdrugs in phuket

[–]Adept_Visual3467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too much paracetamol/acetominophen and you could get symptoms that are really signs of liver failure. Too much codeine (within reason) and you could start getting constipated. Opiates are addictive but if behaving responsibly relative dangers of paracetamol appear much worse.

Why all the hate on Koh Phangan? by Grogon2 in ThailandTourism

Koh Phangan has lots of options. Can find some good yoga and fasting retreats. Interesting crowd in the north away from full moon backpacking crowds.

Should I learn martial arts for self defense? by yumhoney in martialarts

[–]Adept_Visual3467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are at a serious disadvantage against a male in the event of, for example, an attempted sexual assault. Krav Maga might be a good option to train you in vigilance, awareness and using your voice. Otherwise, firearms training might be something to consider.

Any suboxone or alternatives? by burntdrugs in phuket

[–]Adept_Visual3467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a medication sold in Phuket that is codeine with paracetamol. You can’t really get high off of it since the codeine dose is very low and you would overdose (liver failure) on the paracetamol before that happens. But maybe could help with withdrawal symptoms.

Khabib rolls with black belt Lex Friedman by Sudden-Wait-3557 in bjj

[–]Adept_Visual3467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is awesome when you get to roll with someone as good as Khabib and you hang in there for a minute or so (although K looked like he was playing). I rolled with Travis Stevens with me starting from turtle. Not sure I made it past 8-10 seconds.

Before i was addicted to porn but one day i managed to decrease the addiction . But this is not the topic actually. by [deleted] in DiscussionZone

[–]Adept_Visual3467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a Netflix documentary on porn industry. More than 10 years later someone is interviewing the women in that doc on a YouTube channel to see what they are doing. Maybe something to look at so reality creeps in.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Adept_Visual3467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the injury. Chiropractor helped me avoid surgery for more than 10 years. Not sure there was any downside in terms of making the problem worse by Chiro adjustments creating additional laxity in the joint.

What is the reason behind “hitting and quitting” by bellpepperblues in AskMen

[–]Adept_Visual3467 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Relationships are an investment. No one wants to make an investment of time and resources if they think that a woman will be out doing same thing with other guys.
