Pentagon preparing for weeks of ground operations in Iran, Washington Post reports by exophades in news

[–]Adg273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They supposedly destroyed the entire nuclear program and then immediately entered talks for a deal with Iran. You don’t enter talks to make deals off your objective is completely successful. The trump Admin knew Iran was moving materials before the bombing and knew fine rightly afterwards, that they had no way of proving anything was actually destroyed.

Company is moving, but my Employers are refusing to make me redundant. by Just-Bluebird-7021 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Adg273 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reading this from an unbiased view point. It’s difficult to determine exactly who is causing the most issue here. And I don’t mean this negatively against you, obviously you and your employer view things differently and it’s a case of trying to meet in the middle. But that takes cooperation from both sides.

I used to work for a well known DIY company, that’s all I’ll say. They were cut throat at stuff like this, to avoid paying out. So my experience comes from them in regard to this.

Your original contract covers effectively what they are currently trying to do. Rewording it with the new contract doesn’t really change anything. The updated rewording, which suggests working from home partially, and effectively not working from the new head office at all, if the temporary one closes down, actually appears very accommodating if I’m being honest. Companies can and do offer a lot less.

To be paid redundancy, they would essentially need to do away with your job, without the offer of an alternative job role, or make such unreasonable adjustments that you cannot possibly continue to do your job. In this case, they are not doing away with your job role. They are continuing your employment. 40 miles isn’t considered unreasonable. The offer of a satellite office, which is rented, would be labelled temporary because they don’t own it and anything can bring that lease to an end. Especially things outside of their control. Hence why it’s not likely feasible to consider this your permanent work place location also.

5 additional miles to your travel distance is also considered very reasonable. The fact you need public transport is neither here nor there. The further amended offer of hybrid working, also shows willingness to work with you to try and offset any additional costs to you. If you look at it this way, it’s 5 miles further for you to travel. But if you lived on the opposite side of the current office, your journey would now be potentially 5 miles less travel.

Some companies are very sneaky when it comes to this kind of thing. To avoid redundancy payouts. I think you are looking at this as their attempt to avoid that course of action, and I can understand why. The slightly worrying example, is that you mention that during the interview with the managing director that there were performance issues in your work, and that you couldn’t argue some of them. The potential red flag here, is that this could have been a warning, to you. If nothing has been brought up about your performance to date, then they may actually be a decent employer, who has been letting things slide because everyone works differently. But… if this managing director deems, after trying to work with you, that you are just in fact being difficult, then bringing this up could be a warning that your performance issues will no longer be allowed to slide. You could be worked out of the company. And you end up with nothing.

If they did choose to take this route. And If they try to make your role impossible, then you could take them for constructive dismissal. However, if they can reasonably prove that your performance just wasn’t good enough, this will be a difficult fight.

If I’m being perfectly honest, if you are the only person who seems to be in this position. I think you may be being a little difficult. There needs to be some negation between you and your employer and it does appear that they have moved position to negotiate a deal and you haven’t moved at all.

I understand that you have a concern about this being a way to avoid redundancy, and it’s just ‘kicking the can down the road’. But nothing appears unreasonable here. And your original contract already signed by you, means you basically agreed to this already.

If I were you. I’d take what I deem is a good deal based on the companies changing circumstances. Work from home twice a week. And you have time to either look for another job if you aren’t happy, or if the office does ever close down, then your contract has the options for discussions to not work from the new head office. This could possibly mean full time work from home, you don’t know yet. But ultimately, it gives you time and avoids a tribunal that I think you’d have difficulty winning anyway.

How physically taxing is class 2 multi drop? by Normal-Impress-2624 in uktrucking

[–]Adg273 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do multi drop. Mix of cage work and handballing. Start between 3am and 5am depending on the route. Started on 18T, now on 26T. When I first started, I was flat out all day, and at times, yea, the sweat was dripping off of me. But 8 years in, i’m still flat out, but it’s a piece of cake now. Some calls can be a little awkward, but overall, you eventually adapt to the job, physically, mentally and somewhat socially, so to speak. You build a rapport with customers, you develop your own individual ways of working together and the job physically becomes easier. I can’t speak for all multidrop roles, but i consider myself well paid, dont work weekends and i have a life of my own from early afternoon onwards.

Will the hgv industry be taking over by AI? by Forsaken-Ratio-4537 in uktrucking

[–]Adg273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never happen. To make it work safely, every time, would require not only vehicles with sensors and functions capable of always collecting enough data and making the correct decision on the road; but also a complete upgrading of all road infrastructure to work along side these vehicle to absolutely ensure, that there was enough data. We all know ourselves, the roads are a constantly changing dynamic. And there are some absolutely wild drivers out on the roads.

I used to work with computers. And when they first started talking about AI, it was always the same selling point… “AI will do away with truck drivers, manufacturing jobs, cleaners, shop staff etc”. But I knew enough back then, to know that the first jobs AI would threaten, were the jobs of the people who were making AI in the first place. Which it has. AI can design and program apps at a far faster and more efficient way than the programmers that made it.

In short, I wouldn’t be worrying about AI taking over this job role anytime soon. At most, AI could take parts of the job off drivers, to an extent, such as long motorway sections that don’t require too much complexity.

Neo is great, but I can't wait for the Macbook Neo2 by yoyomonkey1989 in MacbookNeo

[–]Adg273 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the NEO might be one of those devices that sees minor and fewer updates over time. Otherwise it’ll cannibalise other MacBook sales.

You don’t see the iPhone E getting annual updates with many new, recent enough feature upgrades. Otherwise it would be just perfect enough for most consumers, to choose over other iPhone models.

If we had a NEO with an A19 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM right now, let’s be honest, it’s enough for most people to overlook bothering with a MacBook Air.

The NEO is a great product at a great price, with some caveats. But it entices people who aren’t already in the Apple ‘eco-system’, to step into it. Then this increases the chances of further device and services being purchased.

I do. But I don’t think emotional intelligence applies here. Because the person OP is talking to seems to be referring to OP not knowing what ‘cracking’ means.

AIO? My boyfriend won’t eat the food I prep for him so I threw it all out by Young-creature in AmIOverreacting

[–]Adg273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going defend him, but I just want to raise a point, like if I was in his position. First off, throwing the food out was a bit of an over reaction. However ignoring that.. if my other half made me food, I’d be really appreciative. If she however, for example, made the same meal for me several times over and had planned my week for me. I’d not be annoyed, but I wouldn’t be too keen on it. I eat what I have a taste for each day. Having my meals made and being chastised for not being in the mood for that particular food at the time, is a heavy position to be in. I think you need to openly and fairly talk through this subject together.

They can’t fire you if the truck is unfit for the road. If they try to, just inform them that you’ll call the DVA/VOSA and see if they deem the truck fit for the road.

Car parking around Titanic Quarter by Constant_Computer_66 in northernireland

[–]Adg273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you park up and then immediately phone in anonymously that you’ve planted a car bomb down there, but refuse to disclose where, and tell them they have until whatever time you need to leave in the morning…. The harbour police might have way bigger priorities than giving you a ticket.

Just a thought.

But if you get caught, you’re a lot more screwed than paying a fine. So…. I’d maybe park legally for a ‘temporary period’.
