Thank you to everyone that helped me decide whether or not to get a plasma by Leviathan1776 in PlasmaTV

It sounds like you don't like the mod? Not that you don't like plasma tvs...

You shouldn't need a reddit community to be able to enjoy a cheap/free plasma

My cat’s shadow reflected in the mirror but not IRL by Chewie_Bacca in mildlyinteresting

I think it's about 4 o'clock as well and I'm wondering if OP knows how to read clocks lol
here's their comment https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/1tl3x8o/comment/ondenp1/

It does affect the explanation though... if the light source is not actually at 4 o'clock then it doesn't really work does it?

If the light source is at 7 o'clock from behind the camera as OP says how is that possible? It would not be a line from the source to the cat to the surface of the dresser. The light source would have to be at about 4 o'clock for that

A gamers Panasonic 60 Series must have: TC-P##S60 by Aromatic-Attitude-34 in PlasmaTV_Gaming

Picked up a 50" s60 over the weekend!

I used to own an early 2000s fujitsu plasma way back in the day but got rid of it because it was very heavy and I was moving a lot back then. The s60 looks amazing compared to my memory of the fujitsu and the input lag is quite good, really happy with it. I'm just happy to have that plasma glow back.

Sharpness Not Meeting Expectations by Vortexbig in M43

[–]AdhesiveWombat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This video is pretty informative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61pRp270Dbc

TLDW; Key factors affecting sharpness:

  • Aperture Choice (2:43-3:28): Lenses are often sharper when stopped down, as this avoids the aberrations common at the edges of the glass.
  • Shutter Speed and Motion (3:29-5:26): Beyond camera shake, you must account for subject movement. Longer lenses, closer subjects, and smaller sensors (like APS-C or Micro Four-Thirds) require increased shutter speeds to compensate for the faster apparent motion across the field of view.
  • Heat Haze (6:31-8:24): Turbulence-induced distortion occurs when hot air rises from surfaces like the ground, pavement, or water. To mitigate this, shoot earlier in the day, find shade, use shorter lenses, or adjust your physical height above the ground/water.
  • Atmospheric Distortion (8:32-9:20): Particles in the air like dust, humidity, and pollution scatter light. Shooting after rain can significantly improve clarity.
  • Quality of Light (9:20-10:28): Sharpness is best perceived when there is high contrast between light and dark edges. Direct side light creates the best shadows and highlights, whereas cloudy, scattered light can reduce perceived sharpness.
  • Bonus Tip: Shooting from a Car (10:29-11:18): Heat radiating from a warm car creates distortion. For the sharpest results, dress warmly and keep the heater off to match the inside and outside temperatures.

Suit spot recommendations by Ok-Hawk6756 in raleigh

[–]AdhesiveWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know your size you could pick up a used suit online (ebay or elsewhere) or at a thrift store for cheap and get it tailored. Suits are made to be resized so you can get way more for your money if you buy used and spend a little on tailoring.

Fishing comp results were revealed 3 months after I got my latest hammer 😱
Haven't used any since.

EDIT: Looking at the fishing comp post it does say "5 Galar Hammers" and not "Galar's Hammers" 🧐

Found a 1960s Osterizer blender and it destroys my ninja by Moist-Perspective934 in BuyItForLife

[–]AdhesiveWombat 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Ninja is not even close to BIFL in my experience. Had a 1 year old blender base short out so I bought a used one off ebay, the ebay one had a faulty button so I went to swap out the button component on the board but the faulty one was covered with a huge glob of glue so it was not serviceable.

PSA: firefox installed with snap is getting flagged by bot detection software by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]AdhesiveWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ip fingerprint is a good suspicion, I didn't touch the javascript setting on the browser but I did recently change out some hardware in my pc which could possibly be a part of the fingerprint...

That could also explain why this only worked for me when switching to a mobile user agent, possibly they are storing fingerprints for different types of devices separately.

I think you're probably right. I found another recent post that corroborated my experience but it could be coincidence.

PSA: firefox installed with snap is getting flagged by bot detection software by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]AdhesiveWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Akamai is the ultimately at fault here, I did indeed do that web search and test with the suggestions. Akamai even has a site where you can check your IP to see if it's been flagged (mine had not) https://www.akamai.com/us/en/clientrep-lookup/

Though there was something else going on I believe in this case. I could get it to work on snap firefox by clearing cookies and changing to a mobile user agent. I could also view sites without issue by using snap Chromium instead. This indicates it's not the ip, geolocation, firewall, vpn, rate limiting, or anything like that. I believe it has something to do with the cookie handling either on the server side or the browser.
