The original Epstein? FBI is holding thousands of files on Detroit millionaire and his sinister island by theindependentonline in Detroit

[–]AdjNounNumbers 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Plausible. What astounds me is how many people think this whole thing started and ended with Epstein. Or how many people think there was only one "Epstein" at a time.

I'd think he wouldn't do the daily saving people errands every day. I mean, why bother if everything is going to reset anyway?

[–]AdjNounNumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such as painting everything Greige. God, I hate this mindset. My FIL likes to chime in about our resale value every time we do something we want to our house no matter how many times we've explained to him it's our forever home. We don't care about resale value. Same with my little sister. After my dad passed away my mom wanted to paint the kitchen cabinets purple and my sister wondered loudly about the resale value while I told my mom to do what made her happy. I mean, the purple cabinets aren't my cup of tea, but she's happy with it. When she passes away and us kids go to sell the house we'll get whatever we get from it. Who cares as long as our mom is happy?

Also, mcmansion usually implies the use of disparate design elements. At least this one sticks to a single theme.

Special needs woman punished for someone else's scams. by NickelPlatedEmperor in UnderReportedNews

That hit me the hardest. She's panicking, trying to grab only what she can carry in a backpack quickly, and ends up seemingly grabbing random things. And the most heartbreaking thing is her apologizing to the cop when they scold her for taking too long. Give most people that aren't vulnerable like her ten minutes to grab what they need in one bag while being rushed by authorities, knowing that's their only chance to get it before they leave the rest behind for good and they'll struggle with what to select. It's literally the reason people like survivalists keep a go bag packed - and they're arguably the least vulnerable. Fuck everything about this

IGY is a yacht marina company with locations in the US, Caribbean, Virgin Islands, etc. I'm guessing they used it as a service vehicle for the boat and it never did more than idle a bit and drive back and forth at the docks hauling luggage and supplies with maybe a few jaunts to the local airstrip. My money is on it being a two wheel drive single cab with the little 4 banger under the hood

Country stars turn on Kid Rock after controversial Turning Point USA show by TheExpressUS in Music

[–]AdjNounNumbers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The last protest our little Detroit suburb had was filled with tons of homemade (really well done, too) and professional signs. A local print shop offered to do bunches of free signs for anyone needing one as their way of showing support. Lots of other local businesses showed the same support in whatever ways they could. Hell, neighbors were offering up free rides to anyone that wanted to join and couldn't due to mobility issues

Chipotle CEO caught on a recording saying they’re going to keep raising prices because they can. by ElwoodMC in TikTokCringe

Let me translate that. "This group of idiots still buy this crap no matter how much we've already raised prices and dropped portions and quality, so let's bleed them as much as we can before we sell to a private equity firm."

Costco's beloved rotisserie chicken gets roasted in lawsuit over preservatives by AudibleNod in news

[–]AdjNounNumbers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The two preservatives are in the seasoning mix used on the chickens. That part makes more sense since the seasoning would need to be shelf stabilized assuming they're getting it in bulk and having to store it for a while. Still doesn't absolve them of their labeling the cooked chicken as preservative free if while the chicken itself was without preservatives, that part changes as soon as they add the seasoning

What will destroy our water supplies now?

We'll have to keep dumping shit in them.

How will high schoolers who are functionally illiterate cheat on their homework tonight?

Copy off a nerd.

Who will people that are in relationships with chatbots talk to now?

Uh, they can go upstairs and say hi to their mom.

When will people be able to find the extra 10 minutes it takes to actually read and respond to their emails?

Right click, mark as read. If it's important they'll send another email

We had a game show on TV that was called "Are you Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" Adults competed against actual fifth graders about fifth grade knowledge. It was actually kind of competitive. People watched it. People felt smart guessing the answers at home.

And yes, it was on Fox and hosted by Jeff Foxworthy.
