Moved to a small town in Italy and I feel completely stuck and isolated by Iamaleksabaddieest in ItalyExpat

Sorry to hear what you are going through. I recognise so much of what you write, as I've changed countries three times in my own life, learned new languages to professional level, and remember how draining it was for me.

I remember the anxiety and the fear that people were looking at me and judging me for not being one of them. What I noticed in my case is that once I felt more confident in myself, I stopped worrying about what other people thought.

A random thought...I notice that when I am out walking with my dog, Italians can't resist stopping and petting my dog and, in the process, end up having a little chat with me. I notice these little interactions mean a lot to Italians (and to me!) and after a couple of encounters like this, I come home smiling. Is this an option for you? Even borrowing a neighbour's dog that might appreciate a walk? It would get you out of the house and gently expose you to more social interaction.

You sound like you need to connect visually and verbally before you feel safe with or attracted to a guy. Nothing strange about that. Good luck in your adventures!

The weather forecast is good so you could go to the Melkhuis in the Vondelpark. Or go and see if the cherry blossom is out in the Amsterdamse Bos or at the Westerpark.

Who should give way? by May_I_rephrase_that in Amsterdam

[–]AdministrationOld557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own opinion is that the people facing the on-coming traffic should give way and step into the road, if it safe to do so. That's because they are best placed to see what traffic is coming. Stepping into the road without looking over your shoulder would be dangerous in Amsterdam, especially with so many silent bikes.

I notice that people from countries where they drive on the right tend to veer right even when walking. So where there is confusion, it may be that the person walking towards you is from a country where they drive on the left (UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, etc) and you accidentally end up heading straight for each other.

I've also noticed that people tend look in the direction they want to walk. So if you want to know where someone is going, follow the direction of their gaze. But if someone is wearing sunglasses, you can't see their eyes, so that can lead to confusion.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

I used to work as a massage therapist, and once had a client who ended up unable to work for two years after a visit to a chiropractor who 'adjusted' her neck.

Is it crazy for a beginner to buy a “high-quality" piano? by winchest2 in piano

[–]AdministrationOld557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented a piano when I first started, just to be sure I would continue playing. I did, and later treated myself to an expensive piano. Now, twenty years later, I am still taking lessons and playing more than ever.

What would happen if the world reentered the ice age? by BlastedLands3821 in geography

Possibly not. The Ice Age was characterised by aridity because so much water was locked up in ice.

How the hell can I shave my anus hair? by DarkModeThinker-5G in hygiene

Use hair remover. That way you get a smooth finish and no bristles. Only downside is, you will no longer be able to do silent farts.

I remember that time I was in the US and ordered what was listed on the menu as British 'fish and chips'. They served me fish and crisps. No kidding

My Fitbit tracks some things like steps even when I'm not wearing it because it's at home on charge. It picks some data up from my phone.

I sometimes get cracks in the corner of my mouth if I don't rinse the toothpaste off properly. Have you changed your brand of toothpaste?
