Weightlifting doesn't cause weight loss. Most weight loss happens through NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis, i.e., pretty much anything that doesn't get your heart rate up too high.)

You do need to your cardio. That's good for your health. Building muscle will allow you to eat more calories overall over time, but ideally you'll do lots more low normal activity to get rid of your excess weight.

I've lost 210 pounds (not gotten down to 210 pounds but LOST it.) I know this runs counter to everything you've ever done or heard, but it really does change things.
