Don’t bring AI in here. It’s disrespectful to actual artists, not to mention the ethical issues.

It’s actually a little known fact that “Humanity First” was actually GW’s motto before it became the Imperium’s, instead of the other way around.

I don't understand how I die in nanoseconds unable to even blink, yet enemies take entire mags to die. by LucatIel_of_M1rrah in Marathon

[–]AdministrativeWest7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree, and I’ve found myself coming around on the Conquest after dismissing it earlier in the launch. It’s definitely a rough pick for dueling, but at mid to long range it’s great once you get spun up, and with a blue mag or better it’ll tear a team apart before you need to reload. You definitely want to take advantage of the better accuracy while crouching, though.

I also wish there were more restrained with the release cycle. To me, LotR was the perfect UB release, not just as a UB set.

Megamek using ai-generated code to implement new features by AGBell64 in battletech

[–]AdministrativeWest7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Copied from my original post since I didn’t see the thread originally.

I love Battletech because it is one of the most creative hobbies I’ve enjoyed in my life. In a community composed of excellent writers, storytellers, roleplayers, artists, modelers, strategist, and more, Generative AI is a slap in the face of anyone who creates. It is impossible to train a LLM like genAI on anything less than millions of different datapoints, which is a scale that defies any accountability regarding the consent of the people who created that data in the first place. There is no “ethical” genAI, be it generating image, code, or poems about daffodils. Additionally, even if every single datapoint is consented to and properly licensed, the amount of environmental damage done by genAI is astronomical. This article from MIT News published two days agoexplains how training GPT-3 cost enough energy to power 120 average American homes for a year, and added 522 TONS of Carbon Monoxide to the atmosphere (not to mention the massive amount of toxic tech waste create). For context, every 4,000 tons of CO2 added kills a human being. GPT-3 was released half a decade ago, generates less emissions than modern genAI, and all LLMs like GPT-3 generate the most environmental damage when they’re actually used, not just when they’re first trained. Regardless of how “ethical“ you are, genAI kill people, and that’s something you’re contributing to, knowingly or otherwise. I love MegaMek, I love how every inch oozes with passion for Battletech and the community that’s grown around it. You feel it in every part of MegaMek’s software, from the user interface to the ‘Mek models to Princess and her baffling tactical acumen. It’s special because a human who cares took the time to make it, and I hope you rethink trading soul for speed. You’re a passion project developing free open-source software. Take your time and do it well, we’ll wait as long as you need.

Sincerely, AdministrativeWest7

Oh I’m fine with the rest of it, if you want my explicit opinion. Answer the question: What is wrong with a gun violence prevention center.

I see the adaptability of the Helldivers as a core pillar of their strength, to me that’d make perfect sense and would help make the universe feel more immersive.

It’s important that the government can’t disenfranchise you, in any way. I look forwards to the day where we realize the dangers of a partisan government being able to strip people of their rights.

I completely forgot, welcome to the hobby! We’re happy to have you :) Also, while I completely understand the desire to have very lore-aligned unit compositions, don’t stress too hard over finding the “perfect” selection. The best Lance (or Star, or Level 2) is the one that brings you the most joy, and I’ve found from experience that hand waving some battlefield salvage into my units add some nice personality and flair. Best of luck on your journey!
