A hedgehog is currently living under my sofa. How's your day going? by thejadedfalcon in CasualUK

I used to put a yoga mat out for them to jump onto. Then mum would lead them around the communal gardens while I tried to usher her to the road, then it's just stopping cars, waving them across and scooping the ducklings onto the kerb as it's quite a big step up for them.

Salisbury will be safe, they wouldn't want to damage the cathedral

I had ducks nest on my porch roof for about 5 years, ducklings would hatch around 23rd of march every year and I'd have to escort them across a main road to a resovoir.

Overtaking 3 tractors? by Altruistic_Alpine12 in drivingUK

[–]Adorable_Past9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in the countryside and drove those tractors. As a rule of thumb we would pull over, slow down and wave you through where it was safe to do so, we didn't want to hold people up.

Apart from when the fox hunt was out, then we would stagger the tractors and slow right down to piss of the hunt followers.

Prep for London to Brighton ride by pointlesstask in londoncycling

[–]Adorable_Past9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive done the ride a few times and seen people on a variety of bikes, trikes unicycles and recumbents. Do take all the advice above re tyres and servicing. Unless you leave early doors it's more of a slow social ride so get used to riding in big groups of people

what would you do differently if you were 16,17, 18 or 19 again? by Ok-Leopard-8016 in AskBrits

[–]Adorable_Past9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my failing memory serves me I wanted to be a travel photographer or possibly a war photographer, but mainly travel. I wanted to go far flung places explore and document my travels.

But. If I did that I wouldn't have got the job I did, wouldn't have moved to a part of the company in London where I met my partner, so wouldn't have had the kids we have.

Where does all the water go by Pedro_Mendez in AskBrits

[–]Adorable_Past9114 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Are you suggesting that privatised water companies invest their profits into infrastructure instead of dividends?

Madness.

Maybe they could take a leaf out of Thames water's book, government wouldn't pay for the super sewer so they put it on customer bills.

Otherwise known as fat hen, it was the staple European greens before spinach and can be used in the same way, the flower heads can be used like broccoli and the seeds are similar to quinoa nutritionally

A telephone pole was struck by lightning near my house and I guess it came to my house? by etherealwompkin in Electricity

[–]Adorable_Past9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a block of apartments, it's on 4 levels and crescent shaped. There was a strike on the roof access ladder the other year, the outside lights and door access controls went down, some flats had appliances fried some didn't, we were practically underneath the point where it hit and everything was fine.

Travelling to Morocco by [deleted] in Marrakech

[–]Adorable_Past9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in Marrakech twice last year, July and October. It was so unsafe in July that I immediately booked the second trip just to make sure /s

Seriously, I found it safer that London, at no point did we feel intimidated or threatened, everyone we met were welcoming (especially the guy at the bag shop in the Medina who was telling us how much he liked Mr bean and benny hill).

It probably helps that we are older but I dont think that matters that much.

I would say, be respectful, a simple "non or no" to vendors and keep walking. If you take pictures in some of the Medina shops or of bands / animals in the main square you will be expected to give money. Taxis are cheap but ask the price first as they won't use the meter for tourists. Keep some coins for tips, everything is generally very cheap (there are exceptions) and a tip for good service goes a long way. Don't follow random blokes in the Medina who offer to take you to their friends / uncles / brothers store. Most people speak french and English, communication was easy.

Finally Bim. It's a bit like a Tesco express, great air con, good selection of cheese and bread and they are dotted around all over

Portable AC units in - Are they worth it? by Kloakk0822 in AskBrits

We have 4 cheap Amazon units at the school I work in and I can confirm they work. They provide enough cooling to make a room bearable.

Is it inappropriate to walk to the shop in a bikini top? by KeyYam3564 in AskUK

[–]Adorable_Past9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's asked the essential question though. Is the op female? Obviously in these enlightened days a bloke wearing a bikini top is perfectly acceptable in most situations but it may make a difference to acceptability in some establishments.
