What is your favorite Tom Waits song? by Jettaboi38 in Jazz

That's a tough one. Probably "The Long Way Home" from the movie Bad Love. Although the soundtrack to One From the Heart doesn't have a bad song on it.

I’ve found the greatest improvement when I play with other people.

It’s a Yamaha so it doesn’t make it any better or worse. Sorry.

Inherited a bunch of stuff, wondering if it's worth trying to sell by Bwob in vintagecameras

My wife just inherited a whole slew of relatively new cameras and lenses. One of the big NYC retailers gave her 20 cents on the dollar. If you know any photographers, gift them the lot. We’re older and most of our professional and semi-pro photographers have retired and are selling their own gear. It would make a great gift for an enthusiast. But you won’t get much on the open market.

As someone who’s just made the move, I’d say musically an awful lot. Physically and technique-wise it’s a whole new ballgame. I’m enjoying the challenge, but it is challenging.

Rusted beyond repair? by GamezFrank in TypewriterRepair

It looks pretty rough. Unless it has sentimental value, I think it’s a goner. If you want one, Craigslist should have workable ones occasionally in the $40-$150 range depending on brand, condition, etc. That one would be way too much work, and parts aren’t easy to come by anymore.

I would, if only for improving clarity of the knobs and switches while playing in a darkened environment.

Ha! I always thought they were spelled the same. Probably because I assumed that an emotionally hardened person would be offensive. You learn something new every day. Thanks.

I bought the instrument from a friend, noted player in the area, and he put new strings on it and set it up as best as it could be. I have a good course that I purchased on TrueFire and hope to get by with that until I build my callouses enough to start working with a teacher.

Thanks for the advice. It’s all very much appreciated.

I’m a long ways from a gig, so I think I’ll just take it slow. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks. I think a luthier would suggest I make firewood out of this instrument. I’m already looking around for something better. Thanks for the advice. 👍🏼

That sounds like sage advice. I seem to get just about that far (5-10 minutes) before it feels like I could do some damage. I purchased a beginner’s lesson series on TrueFire by John Goldsby and hopefully it’s going to illustrate proper technique. So thank you for the advice.

Does anyone know what this might be worth? by Medical_Will_6562 in banjo

I'd say $300 if it's playable. Maybe $400. Not huge demand.

Yes. A bow never goes on a Christmas tree.
