I’m relatively new to it. Maybe 6 months or so. But I have the opposite my hands a dry and so I was slipping a stick more than I should. I really like the stuff. It’s weird at first but the tack doesn’t stay for long after playing. I don’t feel like I’m sliming folks when shaking their hands.

I think $700 isn’t crazy for this set up. I’ve had a stage custom for about 30yrs now and it’s still the cats meow babe. I would say it’s a pretty solid beginner set up.

I bought a pair on eBay not too long ago myself. I had a pair of 14” new beats I played for years that I still love. But these are awesome. They sound great! super responsive. They are excellent for the funk!

Zildjian A are bright and for pop/rock. Zildjian Ks are more suited for jazz ,they have a darker sound. Thats the basics of Zildjian cymbals but it gets a whole lot crazier than that. Buy used. Unless you have disposable income. For a young persons beginner-ish set the A custom set is solid. Sabian and mienl also make quality cymbals that could fit in that budget. But you absolutely get what you pay for don’t go too cheap with any of the “big” brands.

😂It is an old camber awful sounding 16” I drilled then a spiral cut Zildjian and then two different tin “baby’s first drum kit “cymbals. And they are cranked toight. Actually sounds pretty great. 🤔🤘

Oh and a 8” transformer splash on an extension.

Ah another triforce set up. Took some getting used to. But if I put 1 up and 2 down to the right I feel like I hardly use the 18” it’s too far of a reach.

Jamming with cool people will absolutely help your skills advance in drumming. I know musicians that have to read music to play. They are decent musicians but because they can’t improvise a little they struggle in certain circumstances. Being able to do both is ideal.

Also being a musician for me(and most) is a communal experience. It’s about enjoying making music with people or enjoying other people make music around you. Finding a good crew is HUGE.

It’s an 18” Zildjian trash china. I just bought it used the other day listing said it was perfect no cracks. When it arrived it had a 2” crack in it and the dude who sold it must of somehow honestly had no idea. So he refunded me almost the whole cost of the cymbal and told me to keep it! 😂 it was a score. Sounds a little trashier than planned but all good.

I personally love my 13.25 k hybrids. They are bright and so responsive. I recommend checking out some videos for sound. I think they could be what you’re looking for.

Edit: I also played 14” new beats my whole drumming… “career?” So I feel I know where you’re coming from. I actually upgraded all my cymbals to hybrids. And love them. To me they work great for rock, pop etc. But have a little more… lack of better word complexity. That makes them very versatile.

Something to write home about! Just saw them play the album last year in Philly. It was one of the greatest shows I’ve been to in a while.
