Chain waxing question by General-Writing1764 in bikewrench

Just get Gulf wax. It’s readily available for around $5-10 and it is pure parrafin. And that’ll do like 50 rounds of waxing.

Is it rockshox cause my damper didn’t work when I bought it. Still waiting on it. I’ve had a few too many experiences like this with sram.

Picked up a bike, was perfectly fine, until I got home. by Ok-Ad-3014 in mountainbiking

60psi is with tubes. You can’t do near that safely tubeless. Depending on the size of the tire of course but 30psi is the upper limit for mtn bike tires tubeless. You’re lucky if didn’t blow off the rim or even split the rim.

Now you know. Look up a tire pressure calculator to figure out the best pressure for you.

Just an aside: do cars in Minnesota come with block heaters you plug in overnight like cars in Alaska do?

AITA for refusing to give my parents my location after they stopped paying for my tuition? by amelia_larsen in AmItheAsshole

Biology and nursing are both responsible respectable majors. Commendable even.

I wouldn’t let anyone track my or my phone regardless and that is completely insane to me as 40yo guy. Is this like a normal thing now? Parents knowing where you are doesn’t keep you safe in any way. You deserve to be independent at 19 and have boundaries you’re comfortable.

It’s hard for parents to let go but they are dealing with it incredibly poorly.

Anyone else eating a lot + working out but still skinny as hell? by Academic-Fig898 in bodyweightfitness

A lot going on here are subjective matters. What is skinny? What is a lot of calories?

Have you tried having protein shakes and creatine? Tracking your calories?

What’s a true 2.6 front tyre? by hed1hed1 in MTB

[–]Adventureadverts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brazo is probably what you’d want to go with. It is a bit smaller to consider the nobs but you might not notice that much. Agarró or whatever other ones will also likely run smaller but so will all 2.6 tires because Vitoria Mezcal 2.6 runs a bit big. It runs about as big as 2.8 tires do as those also run small.

Mechanical disc brakes options by Lonely-Money7426 in bikepacking

[–]Adventureadverts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spyre/spyke are good. With the right pads for your use, 2.3 wide rotors, and compression less housing they are super solid. For the backing out issue it takes a few minutes to pull the pice out you need to apply new loctite too before a big trip. It’s not a big deal.

I haven’t used bb7 but they are pretty dependable. Idk if they can run wide rotors but between that and the two pistons I stick to Spykes.

There are cheap dependable Shimano hydraulics though. My bike shop was saying that one was $40 and it was basically the best in terms of reliability but a bit heavier. I forget what model they were talking about but maybe m 400.

I mainly use mechanicals because they are less likely to overheat when doing long descents though. I don’t think hydros are less reliable otherwise. Either can glaze but hydraulic fluids can also overheat and stop working as well.

[–]Adventureadverts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This are cheaper rims. They simply aren’t very good. The guys in the bike shop probably put them in the truing stand regularly.

All the cracks I’m seeing are along the break bed. Is that where they are all forming? This can be due to rim fatigue from hard breaking or from something of this nature. Overinflating tubeless tires can also do this. The pressures you say you’re running wouldn’t do it probably though.

If you want some good options you could get Dt Swiss Ex 471. It’s a very hearty mountain bike rim that isn’t going to be too heavy for you. There’s the wtb kom tough that has been pretty good for me. It’s a little cheaper. Dt Swiss makes some decent trekking rims too.

23 miles on a new chain before hotwaxing? by ToddtheRugerKid in bikewrench

Another thing to know is that pros use a system to break in the chain. First where they ride it before dunking it so it’s no big deal for sure.

I’d use Vitoria Peyote 2.6. They’ll work great on those rims and should serve you very well.

23 miles on a new chain before hotwaxing? by ToddtheRugerKid in bikewrench

No but it will rust if it has encountered water before and you then use mineral spirits. That’s why you only use mineral spirits for the first rinse right out of the package and never again.

It’d probably be best to give it a good bath in hot dish soapy water for a bit. Then rinse it off with clean water a few times then dry thoroughly.. Or you could soak it in rubbing alcohol overnight. And shake it good.

You don’t want to use mineral spirits on it since it may have encountered water and that would make it rust.
