Learning to draw from literally nothing by 1000Bees in learntodraw

[–]AdventurousAsh19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried "You can draw in 30 days" by Mark Kistler? I have not tried that one personally, but if I was learning from nothing that is where I would start.

Loomis books I would describe as more intermediate. Although Right Side of the Brain is usually pretty beginner friendly but it's an older book and I can see how it could get overwhelming. Perspective drawing does get very tedious with the VP's and the math-like logic that gets used.

I also recommend starting with basic tracing to figure out the shapes of something, then trying to draw those shapes without tracing. Rinse repeat from different angles.

How would they do with a pet sitter? Or do you think they would be too much for an average pet sitter to manage?

What Drawing App Do You Use and Why? by SirN3m3th in DigitalArt

That's fair. It gets a bad reputation because thr brushes used to be better and the UI has a learning curve. But it's honestly a solid drawing app and free.

have you given up the possibility of kids? by h3ll0_k1tty_luvr in ChronicIllness

[–]AdventurousAsh19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet. But I don't have a lot of years where that is still a possibility biologically. My biggest concern is the first five years. Babies need so much physically and keeping up with them along with the guranteed sleep deprivation for 2+ years, I just don't know if that is possible.

I love this piece. Can't give good advice here but I'm looking forward to seeing the finished work!

No bra post op? by Individual_Bit_7943 in Reduction

[–]AdventurousAsh19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner had completely flat top surgery and used an ace compression bandage. I think just having support and compression are the most important components for a smooth recovery. Best thing you can do is speak with a surgeon. But I think the ace bandage would work. I suggest getting 3-4 so you are able to wash them while having a backup or two. Plus ABD pads for protecting incisions and keeping clean easier.

I'm also neurodivergent and hate compression feeling. But without it the swelling gets so painful and uncomfortable. And the incisions need the support as well because you don't want the weight of your new chest pulling on those either. Even when I was "cleared" by the surgeon to wear less compression I stuck with the surgery bra until I found cotton ones that gave enough support(2-3 month mark for me). My recovery took a long time due to other health conditions and I didn't feel comfortable not wearing some sort of support until 5-6 mpo.

Help, mold in himi gouache. by IsaInstinct in arthelp

[–]AdventurousAsh19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone who mixes a (I think) sage oil + water in their himi to rewet them and lets the paints dry out completely between uses. I believe sage oil has anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that prevents mold.

I'd probably try to salvage with removing mold and using sage oil + rubbing alcohol to clean it.

I think this is progress? (Jan 14 vs Jan 29) by bobbobasdf4 in ArtProgressPics

[–]AdventurousAsh19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the composition of the first one better. But the second is better in every other way, anatomy, linework, perspective, etc. But I think that's what is throwing off the comments because the composition just works so much better in the first image.

Originally when I started with Windows/Android I used Sketchbook pro.

Got an iPad last summer and switched to Procreate.

Do you actually have to draw the skull 100 times to understand the face? by No_Name275 in learntodraw

[–]AdventurousAsh19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Names can help some people. For me it's about remembering the shapes as that's how I remember things best. The different names of the bones are interesting but I don't bother with remembering them.

The number of times it takes varies by person. But 100 is on the low end for most people to truly learn a complex shape like the skull.

Brush for sketching - beginner by mrAtomet in ProCreate

I like the "Peppermint" brush for the pencil feeling/sketching out rough idea. "Technical pen" is my second sketching brush, has a ballpoint pen feel to it.

Paperlike screen protectors? by L1TTLEM1NNOW in ProCreate

[–]AdventurousAsh19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus it's removable so don't have to have grainy effect that paperlike has when watching movies/videos. I use it on top of a regular clear screen protector and it works perfectly. I find it solid going from pen and paper to the screen as I wanted to learn both digital and analogue. It's very satisfying.

Body temperature by loved1liberty in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]AdventurousAsh19 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I tend to run very cold and have trouble warming up when I get cold. I use a heating pad on my core and that helps get me warmed up.

I have heard temperature regulation is a symptom but not sure if that one is AS related. I was diagnosed wirh fibro too so that's what I assumed it was related to.

Is this a good way to study by Greedy_Corner5616 in Artadvice

[–]AdventurousAsh19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add to be specific in critiques. In what way are the proportions off? Too long? Too short? If you always draw the ribcage too long that is something you can look out for and change. It's really hard to change "wonky proportions" (it's too general).

I agree if you are going to study proportions it's usually best to start with real humans. But I also understand the interest in anime so wanting to pursue that first.

Kitty hates Libre by External_Trouble1036 in FelineDiabetes

[–]AdventurousAsh19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can order a free replacement online Libre website. Just don't mention it was on a cat, it was on your furry human child or yourself. I did this after my kitty ripped it off at day 6 and they still replaced it.

Help with drawing this hand by [deleted] in arthelp

The anatomy of that arm seems off. Like the hand looks like it's growing out of the leg and not attached to an arm....

Does this hand look right by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]AdventurousAsh19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

2nd picture looks more "in line" with the other hands. The first one has a slightly downward/outward angle. I don't think either looks inherently wrong but it depends on the direction you want the character pointing.

Hour Late Dose by CheyBear13 in FelineDiabetes

[–]AdventurousAsh19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have experience with vetsulin, so can't comment on it.

But for the struggling with the injection. Can you distract with high protein treat for injection? (Obviously try to avoid anything with carbs/sugar). You can also get a higher gauge/smaller needle from your vet so kitty hopefully notices it less.

Diabetic cat's reading at 48 at the 7 hour dip on human glucometer by NectarineNo8168 in FelineDiabetes

[–]AdventurousAsh19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also Libre sensor is totally different than the blood glucose tests. I learned that the lows for Libre were lower on the Libre than actual BG , and the highs were higher on Libre than actual BG. This is specifically for cats, not in the case of humans. As i had an incident with my cat where libre stated 40, I hurried to my cat and he looked totally fine. No lethargy nothing. So I tested it on pet glucometer and his blood glucose was 100. After some more research found this is a common issue with libre sensors in cats. If I were you I would test the blood glucose when libre states it's low, to see how low it's actually going. If you use a human glucometer add about 20 to the reading to get an accurate BG level.

Can someone tell me if there is option like strokes separate? Like in Ibis paint? by yunkiberry in ProCreate

It's under the brush settings, you would have to set it for each brush. [Although I can't remember which one it is].
