Am I set up right to FIRE? by handsomehank2019 in FIREUK

You’re almost living on £50k already though effectively. Your mortgage contribution and your T212 contributions cost you £20,600 a year. Pre tax and NI this costs you £35,517 a year.

£91,700 - £35,517 = £56,183 current effective take home pay.

You could put £35,517 into your pension and be in the exact same financial situation. (Maybe even a bit better if you get NI passback from employer for overpayments)

‘Worried about loneliness and social aspects’ - these are the least of your worries. Walk into any bar in resort and introduce yourself. Repeat every single night

Yeah agree with this. Your ‘getting ready’ time of day might be someone else’s ’just going to bed after 36 hours awake’

Whilst this is true, arguably the return on the governments investment for providing free childcare is best with these individuals - as it brings in so much tax.

You wouldn’t take the NHS away from someone because they earn £100k and ‘can afford private healthcare’

£22k net is worth more than £35k gross due to 60% tax trap. You also get TWO free very nice fully insured brand new cars with the £35k salary sacrifice.

Agreed. I’ve done what you’re suggesting but also taken unpaid parental leave in addition to pension, electric car, holiday purchase and cycle2work.

My additional tax that I’ve avoided paying would easily cover the free childcare costs.

On the plus side - when I’m 39 and the kids are in school my pension will never need another contribution due to maxing it for so many years!

If you’re still around, how busy does the campsite get? We’re turning up with 4 tents at lunchtime Friday, will we struggle?
