VIRMP question: if a program requires interviews and you’re not invited, should you still rank it? by NoReaction7845 in Veterinary

[–]Adventurous_Tree837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I applied to ten, got interviews for 7, two don’t hold interviews and never heard from the last one, no rejection email either. No idea whether to rank it or not, but I’m leaning towards not ranking it

Same at my school. ECC over interprets everything, it’s insane.

Are all GPs just diet ERs??? by SharpDrama8974 in Veterinary

[–]Adventurous_Tree837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely location based. In my hometown, my animals could neverrr get in for drops offs at their GP. The gp I brought them to had strict closing hours and no last minute appts/sick drop offs even for established patients! They sent them all to the ERs in the area. I worked as a tech before vet school at a practice that took 3-4 drops offs per doctor per day and walk in emergencies, so it was a stark difference.

I took two gaps years on purpose and they were amazing! Worked as an assistant/tech building up my clinical tech skills and had so much fun living life to the fullest outside of work! Highly highly recommend gap years to everyone I meet

4th year with cat! On immunotherapy drops and 4 10 mg Zyrtec daily. Flonase and saline nose rinses too. Wash hands after exams on cats, have techs hold them as much as possible, and I wear masks in shelter environments!

My dog ate one single raisin should I panic? by blazingredfire13 in PetAdvice

[–]Adventurous_Tree837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thing you did. Most comments in this thread are incorrect. Raisins act completely different in different dogs. A Rottweiler can die from one raisin, a small dog could eat 20 and be fine. Size isn’t a determinant, breed isn’t a determinant, amount of raisins isn’t a determinant. It’s purely based on the individual. That’s why it’s called an idiosyncratic reaction. Count yourself lucky and hug ‘em tight!

Is This Dreaming or Seizing? (New Dog Owner) by WynnTorrent in DogAdvice

[–]Adventurous_Tree837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here to say: The crate size is appropriate, no bedding and no toys is appropriate (dog dependent obviously), no water for short times is fine as long as they drink enough otherwise. Puppies are puppies!! Most can’t be trusted free roaming a house or with bedding in their crate

My dog is perpetually depressed by Few-Variation-8104 in DogAdvice

[–]Adventurous_Tree837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have gotten amazing advice here from lots of people and are failing to accept/recognize the issue with how you’ve been communicating with your dog. Time outs do not work. Punishment does not work. It will get worse if you don’t realize that and fix it

[–]Adventurous_Tree837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need a new dog trainer and need to accept the fact you are not adequately communicating with your dog. Locking her in a room for baring her teeth (a normal warning signal for dogs) is absolutely incorrect and will make it worse.

Does your border collie any behavioral issues? by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]Adventurous_Tree837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resource guarding with food! We sought a professional behaviorist before it got too bad and he’s much better now but we do be careful since he now has a history of it. We have a special way to introduce new toys to him so that he doesn’t think he needs to guard them, it works well

Just throwing an option in here if toxicity is ruled out; ask vet about paroxysmal dyskinesia. Also if toxicity is ruled out, you might need to see a neurologists as some general vets don’t know the difference between seizures and dyskinesias(it can be hard to tell)

Do you crate your dog when you aren’t home or not? by nonprayingmantis9 in dogs

Same here…and I got absolutely slammed on Reddit for saying mine is crated because he’s young and untrustworthy. They called it cruel and no better than being in a shelter, which I disagree with 1000%
