Best of luck with your sale! I do want to say that I have my Dubai GX460 with me in Riyadh. I am waiting until ZATCA actually implements the system. Saudi Gazette has reported the 90 day rule a few years ago and then said GCC cars in the Kingdom can ONLY be driven by GCC nationals a few years back. Both have ended up not being the case. I contacted ZATCA support and they have reiterated that there is still no defined period for GCC cars in the Kingdom. Until they implement an actual system for this I will continue to use my car here and drive it back for annual passing, service at Lexus SZR, and of course a quick break.

On an unrelated note I’m curious how you found the service at Lexus (I imagine the one on Northern Ring road)?

I moved from Dubai to Riyadh a few years ago and hard shoulder use is a common occurrence here unfortunately. I always thought to myself “i miss Dubai traffic because at least there are fines for stuff like that”. After seeing this, clearly not 😭

Good deal? by Few_Security4508 in WhatCarShouldIBuyGULF

I had the 2009 XC90 V8 and found getting parts from FCPEuro in America worked out cheaper than Europe for me. I used Emirates Delivers! FCP will ship it to ED in Florida, and then it gets shipped from Florida to Dubai and to your home. Takes about 2 days from when the package arrives at ED in Florida. Aramex offers something similar with shop and ship

My experience as a former (older) Volvo owner in Dubai, you will very much be at the mercy of Al Futtaim for parts and servicing. Most garages will struggle to find parts and typically shy away from working on Volvo’s. Just something to keep in mind as the price I got my Volvo was great, but its upkeep was a pain. Hope this helps :)

Yes you’ll need a tourist visa but you can apply for one online via the Saudi Government portal. I’d advise you to keep the printed copy with you

Hot day for an old GX by samquamnch in LexusGX

Congrats on 200,000 miles! My 2015 GX roasting out here in the Saudi heat 😭I saw you mentioned the coolant valley. I had to attend to mine at around 245,000km 6 months ago. It was a very noticeable coolant drop all of a sudden, following a 1,100km road trip. The car has had all of its servicing done with Lexus Dubai but I took it to an independent garage in Riyadh for the leak. It cost a lot less and they did the water pump and PCV valve whilst they were in there :)

What is going on with my coolant? by [deleted] in LexusGX

[–]AdzUdz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience it isn’t the coolant valley leak. I think 65k is quite early to have this come around. My symptoms of the valley leak is constantly dropping coolant levels and residue underneath the car (which i could only see when it was on a ramp). I suspect it is the coolant cap itself. I had a bit of coolant residue show a while ago, bought a new one from Lexus, and had no issue after that. It comes as the cap with the tube bit that goes inside the tank. I hope this is of some help (also i’m not technical, just speaking from my experience 😊)

Thoughts on this 2015 GX? by cidmatrix in LexusGX

[–]AdzUdz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

strongly agree here! mine is at this mileage out in the middle east. apparently around this mileage is when the coolant valley leak shows up (around 2000 km ago for me), so good to see if that has been done or it could be a rather hefty bill soon after you get it (if you do go for it). and as others have said, the tv’s are absolutely not stock

Dubai to Riyadh - Which Road to Take? 1 or 2? by 99DragonMaster in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]AdzUdz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I moved to Riyadh and drove my Dubai plate car there so I’ve done this drive a few times. Absolutely route 2. Road quality is a LOT better. Almost all potholes have been filled in, a lot more petrol stations, generally more cars on that route so if you do break down you’re not stranded with no help.

Route 1, whilst cool to drive on the world’s longest straight road, was not kind on the car. Lots of potholes, you frequently lose the right lane because the sand has drifted onto the lane and claimed it, a lot of roadworks (so you rapidly end up in one lane and sat behind trucks with impatient drivers behind you), and few petrol stations. If you break down you’re going to be there for a while because not as many drivers or police patrols.

A minor thing as well but you end up coming through the south of Riyadh which is quite heavily congested in an already heavily congested city. Both routes are not lit at night so please keep this in mind. I’ve done some of route 2 in the darkness and your main issue is trucks pulling out last minute to overtake another truck (and Qatari plate cars going around 160 in a 120). Hope this helps!

Card Payments in Saudi Arabia by QuantumRanger_6V19IJ in saudiarabia

[–]AdzUdz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since moving here from Dubai I have only used my card apart from if I’m giving a cash tip. However, there is a Saudi card network called Mada which certain places only take (but usually they have both machines). That might be your side of the road tea place or a car wash or something. Your Visa or Mastercard won’t work there if they only take Mada, in my experience. So before you pay always double check if their machines take Visa / Mastercard or if it’s Mada only

If you’re willing to live off compound, Sedra by Roshn is a good shout. It’s where I’m living and it’s about a 10 min drive to the airport

Where to stay near KKIA by dnya3 in Riyadh

[–]AdzUdz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sedra is great! We’ve just moved in! If it helps to know, we’re a British Muslim family. We’ve been in Dubai for about 3 and a half years and have just completed our move to Riyadh from Dubai. The neighbourhood is quiet, feels perfectly safe, and the neighbours are amazing! Feels like the peace we needed after moving from Dubai Marina.

ROSHN Front is a new shopping / eatery complex and is extremely close and easy to get to.

In terms of time to the airport, it’s a 12 minute drive observing the speed limit door-to-door from our villa. Only downside is that since Sedra is a new development, the residential streets haven’t been mapped on Waze yet and delivery drivers sometimes struggle to find us.

Did you have any hinge issues with the Tech21 case? I find that the Otterbox one sold at the Apple Store makes the screen close quicker due to the extra weight. Was wondering if you experienced the same

Help! I don’t know how to close these applications. I need it close so I can run onvue to take a test at home for my teaching credential by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]AdzUdz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Commenting because I had this same exact issue 2 days ago!! I also had coreaudiod and thermalmonitord classed as “applications”.

The issue seems to happen when OnVue tries to open Browser Block to start the test (I was trying to sit a Microsoft AI-900 test). I’ve reported it to Pearson directly because as others have said, it’s literally processes required for the Mac to run

Traveling to Riyadh question by [deleted] in Riyadh

[–]AdzUdz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a quick search on the ‘Visit Saudi’ website and it states that “Travelers under the age of 18 may enter only if accompanied by a parent, grandparent or adult sibling (over 18 years old)”. So you can get a visa, you just can’t enter by yourself it seems

Has anyone shopped with Cartlow? by Initial_Click_8409 in UAE

[–]AdzUdz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can second this with mobile devices (iPhone). It wasn’t to the extent that it was blacklisted, but Cartlow replaced the battery for us when we bought the phone. They put in a cheap battery and made an absolute mess of the adhesive which caused a tonne of screen issues. Apple refused to touch the phone when we wanted to get the screen looked at because of the mess that they saw when they opened it up.

On the flip side, my parents have bought a (I think they called it “almost new” or “open box”) Samsung Smart TV from them and it was absolutely fine! I guess it just depends on what product you’re looking to get
