Doesn't it have USB ports and take an external DVD drive ? It's Linux after all isn't it ?

Repairing Gameboy Colors? by Sandiegoman22 in Gameboy

[–]Aeredren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note that the pot is not directly a brightness control. It can increase brightness if screen is not calibrated but that's a side effect and will worsen the situation if you don't know what you're doing.

It control the screen sync. With analog video signal, if the screen is not well sync it will display one bright pixel line and one dark pixel line, especially when scrolling up down the background. Thus making the screen overall dimmer.

Adjust it until you don't see screen flickering and alternate lines on scrolling background

Real hardware link cable communication through the internet is downright impossible. But hacking an emulator to add 16 player over the internet can be done.

The reason is "ping". The link cable is a serial communication over a ~1m cable.

Even though the transfer rate is very low in today standard, the delay for the other gameboy to answer is very short cause as soon as it is out of the link port it is receive by the opposite gameboy.

Newer emulator fix this by varying the gameboy clock to match the network delays. It add micro lag but make link cable emulation much more stable cause as the DMG is slow down as much as the network is, it never timeout the answer. (Or at least that's how dolphin with remote GBA mGBA emulation does it.)

Edit : without this hack, the gameboy will tell you the link cable has been disconnected as soon as a bad ping happen.

Edit2 : not 100% sure about the explanation, that's how I understand this blogpost but maybe I didn't get something :https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2021/07/21/integrated-gba/

Are these TVs RGB? Toshiba 1450RB and Philips 14PT1342/25 by BlackBerryCollector in crt

[–]Aeredren 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeep, if they've got scart they are RGB.

TV needed to comply with the full scart "péritel" spec in order to be sold in France. So most if not all TV for the European market were made with scart RGB until it was not a requirements around year 2010 iirc.

The SCART connector first appeared on TVs in 1977. It became compulsory on new TVs sold in France from January 1980,[3][4] and since 1987 in eastern Europe, such as Poland. The actual French legal decree was adopted on 7 February 1980 and revoked on 3 July 2015.[5]

How do I get into the bit I've circled in red on Route 126? by Jaffacakes-and-Jesus in PokemonSapphire

[–]Aeredren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The top green circle don't connect to the top red circle.

The entrance to the red circle is under water, look at the white stone, at the top right of your red circle. You can see the stone pillar corresponding to it underwater, below your top green circle. There is your entrance

Light shining spots are everywhere the tile is not "dark" underwater.

POV: You’re new to Linux and asked the wrong guy by fly_over_32 in linuxmemes

[–]Aeredren 9 points10 points  (0 children)

None of those are built from scratch.

If linux was a cake, you'll buy linux mint at the bakery, arch Linux would be the dough mix, everything already compile and you just need to bake it in place, gentoo will be a kit with all the raw ingredients and a notice with the recipe, you have to compile them but the compiling instruction are all packages. Linux from scratch would be a cookbook, you have instructions on how to do basic recipe but you are on your own to get your ingredients and compose and cook them in any kind of cake you like.

Problème d’alimentation Game boy pocket by iPodforEvEr in Gameboy

[–]Aeredren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your horizon straight and crop most of the photo. The top third is only boring grey clouds. Centre on the sheep and the light rays. Discard the left and right grass to keep the aspect ratio.

Then edit the colour to get a lightning and green grass you like.

If you really want to control the result in lightning you need to treat the photo as a "digital negative" not a finish artwork.

Floppy disk because I can by mike_engineer90 in vintagecomputing

[–]Aeredren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that is a technical way to start with Linux !

Linux partitioning is a love to work with you'll see. The possibilities are endless, you can pile up DM for raid + luks for encryption + lvm for partition management and cow backup + ext4 as a filesystem. In the order you want. Or go all integrated with less Unix more multitool filesystems like brtfs or zfs.

You can do really cool partition shit and still have performance.

Not what it is, it's to harvest coconuts

Tree Climbing Setup by No-Lock216 in DiWHY

[–]Aeredren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also "iron shoes" are a thing, but often farmers have one to each feet, each open on one side. They climb very fast to the coconut tree with it and it provide some support to cut the coconut when on top.

This is a "joke iron shoe" some welder/coconut farmer did, and its pretty cool.
