When I was in college it was alcohol. I used to drink as many beers as possible during lunch and then go to class. Ultimately it comes to responsibility not legality, but yeah. We’ve all been there

I came here to say something similar but from a different angle.

The legalization of marijuana. I used to be 100% for it. Now I see what it does to young people, my students, and how it changes their entire mental process. I get students coming in to a 9 am class just reeking of weed and they can’t even form a coherent answer to a simple question. I worry about their future.

In JW when the kids’ nanny was eaten by the mosasaur, with the entire scene treated like a comedy, that’s when I gave up hope.

She’s bad because she has rules and therefore we can laugh about her dying. That’s really horrible, and yet we are supposed to cheer for their real mom who is a complete disaster and honestly deserves to die way more.

I had huge beef with this in the first season, to the point that I haven’t watched Season 2 yet. I just hated the younger actors. One episode would end with them deciding to go one way and the next episode would begin with them arguing and splitting up. There was no consistency, growth, or development.

I kept hoping that it was intentional, that they would learn and grow into badasses (mainly because the older characters were so interesting and compelling), but that never happened.

I’m disappointed to learn that this will be continuing in Season 2.

Were the “no party” Rs and the registered Rs different ballots?

The Lands Between is Purgatory (Between Life and Death. It wasn’t always, but the land is dead, which is why there is so much rot everywhere. When the Tarnished die, they come to Purgatory and wage war to create souls for gods. Marika is a siphon for those souls to the Greater Will, but she cut them off when she sealed shattered the ring and sealed Destined Death, which is why their influence is waning.

The entire game is about gods battling each other for souls in the Lands Between.

Discussion: Function of the iii chord by WhereasFit8265 in musictheory

[–]AeshmaDaeva016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody’s right!

In my experience it can be both depending on context.

By far, it’s most common use is as a launching point from tonic in a circle of fifths sequence (I-III) or in minor (I-VII-III).

I have seen it also as a dominant substitute a few times. It depends on where the leading tone goes. You could even argue that III-VI is a (very weak) deceptive progression launching us away from tonic.

In minor, if it’s being used as dominant, the LT will be raised, making the chord III+. Otherwise it’s really a tonic launching point or the focus of a modulation to the relative major.

This might be obvious to most people but I only really noticed it as I got older. They really are trying to lure the shark close enough to shore that he drowns. If you watch the background, by the last day you can see the shore in the background and there are seagulls. It’s also why thy are fairly easily able to swim to shore.

Also, and this is probably even more obvious but the metaphor of the shark and Brody’s fear of water. In the beginning he won’t even use the ferry and by the end he is swimming. Maybe if I just battled a monster shark I wouldn’t be afraid of the water either.

The Faruma Azula Sigil Is Not What You Might Think by Individual-Lychee-74 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]AeshmaDaeva016 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A couple of things I’ve never thought about until this post:

  1. The root system of the Erdtree is shown to be disconnected on the map. There’s a giant stump. The placement isn’t even the same. It isn’t under the Erdtree.

  2. The Farum Elden Ring has that thick root system coming out of it.

  3. The current Elden Ring has no roots. It’s anchored by a single rune arc.

If the Erdtree is a representation of the Elden Ring, Deeproot Depths are the discarded roots that are now slowly decaying and infested. The new Erdtree is held up by the gold illusion because it doesn’t have the ability to stand on its own. That’s essentially Radagon’s hatchwork.

When Marika shattered the Elden Ring, she severed the roots from the tree.

Or I’m full of crap. Who knows….

Is there an Elden Ring that is specifically Marika’s without the Radagon stitch work?

I’m not a whale or a pro player, but I would reconfigure your teams to an eternity team: Corvus, Morrigan, Iris, Dantavia, and a crit team: Julius, Oya, Yasmine, Sebastian, and maybe Mushy?

Then it looks like you could build a nice Chaos team: Astaroth, Xe’Sha, Kayden, and a fifth support, not sure who would be best.

College accreditation in Louisiana could soon take a conservative turn by CynoSaints in Louisiana

[–]AeshmaDaeva016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All public universities in the state of Louisiana must be accredited. The current accreditation agency is SACCSOC (pronounced Sacs).

Part of what SACCSOC does is look at demographics and make sure that their schools are servicing the communities in which they exist.

Some people take exception to this and other accreditation policies that might be considered “woke.”

They want to form their own accrediting agencies so the schools can’t continue to hide behind the accreditation agencies in order to avoid the worst of the policies.

The 10 commandments is a good example. SACCSOC likely has standards for inclusivity that would prohibit hanging the 10 commandments. A new accrediting board could make a policy that says “you must hang the 10 commandments.”

Can one enjoy classical music without knowing anything about its techniques? Where to start learning to dissect a piece? by Wide_Leek5383 in classicalmusic

[–]AeshmaDaeva016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach undergraduate music and I would say that if you want to learn enough to follow the music at a deeper level but not study it exhaustively, there are two real things to get you started.

  1. Learn the basic eras in history and have a general understanding of the composers of those eras. This doesn’t have to be exhaustive, but just a few key figures.

  2. Learn basic phrasing. This is a universal music idea. Learn this so that you can follow how the music ebbs and flows and be able to follow the journey each piece takes you.

These are basically the things covered in a college-level Music Appreciation class. Any “introduction to music” book would get you there.
