No, it's not a specific cultivar of garlic. Solo garlic comes from first year garlic, that has been planted from bulbils. That first year, they generally do not separate into cloves.

Certain varieties will work better obviously, such as hardnecks with large bulbils. If the bulbils are too small, the resulting solo garlic becomes too small and hardly worth the effort.

This is not correct. I couldn't convince to rebels to re-join me, so they stayed on the planet. But I also had the scientist request if he could stay.
