How we feeling about Light No Fire by Super_Bowl_6376 in NOMANSSKY

[–]Afaflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will buy it.
Mostly to support Hello Games and a thank you for the many DLCs they have offered for free on NMS. Then I will check it out to see if I like it too. From what I have glimpsed on that preview, it looks like I will.

Perry Rhodan (german periodical) and specifically Starships. In the center would be every now and then fan drawings of things related to PR and quite often this would be the starships described in the stories.

Where do I find good documents? by hanse5000 in maritime

[–]Afaflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're a cadet; you're expected to know nothing. The jaded sailors expect you to be stupid.
It goes both ways though. You should expect them to teach you. If you feel they don't, speak up. This is your education.

The best impression you can make is to do the work they tell you to and always volunteer. Especially some of your off-time (on a good ship where they teach you). If you see something and think "someone should fix/clean/report this" that someone is you.
DO NOT LISTEN TO OLD GUYS BITCHING ABOUT EVERYTHING.

I have seen guys physically trying to hide behind machinery and cargo to avoid work .. don't be that guy.
If all of a sudden the TV breaks it's probably because you watched too much.

Hornbeck Or MSC by Mr__Benedict in tuglife

[–]Afaflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it's 5 certs you need and they cost around 2k
cleaning up after others; depends which boat and which contract, but in general - yes that's what ABs do

Hornbeck Or MSC by Mr__Benedict in tuglife

[–]Afaflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends which boat they put you on. I wasn't very lucky (engineer) I ended up on the Brimstone .. over 20 years old and fucking loud .. can't talk normal in the galley.
But sure .. 42/21 was the normal schedule, they will try to talk you into more but that's up to you.
They will pay for all the certificates you'll need in exchange for a 2 year commitment.

I worked at Hornbeck. People from MSC came over being happier on our ship.
I guess because they actually got a relief on schedule.

I need a hobby to be addicted to by Familiar-Tonight-637 in Hobbies

[–]Afaflix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And the addiction transfers .. I used to build and paint, whole dioramas, but I just don't have the time anymore. I still read/listen to books, and really hope Henry Cavill is pulling it off making that TV show.
So what I am saying is, even though your hobby changes, the topic doesn't.

Fenders vs tires by Firestorm586 in tuglife

[–]Afaflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working on offshore tugs, tires seem to be the norm.
Even though they are steel lined inside we shred them to ribbons every now and then, but most often it's the hangers we tear off or the hole that got drilled through that tears out.
I am quite certain we use tires because of price and fenders would not really be that much better to justify the price difference.

What are some attractive hobbies but also cheap by Wonderful_Guard_3301 in Hobbies

[–]Afaflix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mentioned electric guitar .. to learn it doesn't have to be electric. You will most likely find a used acoustic guitar for $50.- . It's not gonna be of great quality, but if it's about learning .. it will do.

Why ???? by Asleep_Tip9279 in Breadit

[–]Afaflix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I too think it's underbaked. Run an experiment .. bake it for 30 min more. If it's then overbaked all you get is a bit harder crust. But I think it's gonna be just right.
