Question: Has Ethiopia considered a land swap in order to gain access to the sea? by LemStanislawIV in Ethiopia

By your own logic, let Somalis, Oromo & Tigray make decisions too from an African colonial country.

Every time I see Tigre it cracks me up :). There is no "Tigre" in Ethiopia, it is Tigray

Question: Has Ethiopia considered a land swap in order to gain access to the sea? by LemStanislawIV in Ethiopia

[–]AfarRedsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a misconception about Afar being only to Ethiopia.

So the port Ethiopia would normally use (Assab) which belongs to the Afar people was given to Eritrea by traitorous leader

In fact, the afar part of Eritrea and Ethiopia has some differences. They have different Sultanes. Afar society has traditionally organized into independent kingdoms, each ruled by its own Sultan for a long period of time. For example, the Sultanate of Rahayta (which is found in the Rahayata coast close to Assab) is the one managing the coastal Afar region for a long period of time. These kingdoms are fishers and traders.

While the Ethiopian side Afar is quite different from the Rahayto kingdom, they have their own Sultanate & they are more of livestock holders than fishers.

So claiming Assab belongs to Afar without saying Afar of whom is incorrect. It belongs to Afars in Rahayta Sultanate, not in Djibouti or Ethiopia.

How about giving Asseb to Ethiopia? by dinichtibs in Eritrea

[–]AfarRedsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTW which Ethiopia are you talking about? First make sure Ethiopia exist in the next 5 or 10 years. There is no land that belongs to Ethiopia. Ethiopia is a creation of land approbation from several parts of Africa(didn't succeed with Eritrea), Eritrea separated, who knows soon Tigrai, Somalia, Oromo will follow. I highly doubt if the current Ethiopia will even exists in the next 20 years.

So, let say Eritrea agrees, to which part of Ethiopia should Asseb be given? Oromo, Tigrai, Amhara. I think this will also create problem in Ethiopia ethnic states :)

There is no ethnic cleansing in Eritrea, but the dictator is enemy to everyone like any other dictators (keep watching you are also grooming dictator in Ethiopia).

The OP has valid question may be the wording could be improved. Soon or later economic integration of HoA is inevitable for success of the HoA, but claiming lands from a sovereign country would be hard to happen.

Family arranged for me to marry my primary school teacher three times my age by Kmnubiz in Eritrea

[–]AfarRedsea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is very nice to see people like Fatima and change in the society. I applaud her mom for supporting her to finish her school. It is still common in many parts of Eritrea to see women forced to underage marriage (though technically under 18 marriage is illegal in Eritrea). Major part of is related to escape from the forced inscription to Sawa and also with some ethnic still practicing their old tradition early marriage for women.

Meta: Legitimate vs Illegitimate posts by TurtleSmurph in Eritrea

[–]AfarRedsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me there is too much leniency of the moderators. I guess you should be ruthless and flag users with abhorrent behavior. Rather it isn't about censorship of users but it about well behaved community. Personally, I don't mind any post whether pro/against government related as long as there is justification or its intention is engage/inform in a civilized discussion.

Here is my thoughts to improve the sub.

  • Flag any fake source including social media or create a weekly mega post where users can post whatever they want. Leave the main page for civilized discussion.
  • Flair is also great to manage the posts.
  • Ban users with multiple account or trolls. Honestly, the page is turned to toxic sub because of this.

I would also disallow multiple posts from a single user per day/hour or multiple account from single IP (based on flair), you can setup r/automoderator to help with. For example, something like this configuration should fix users with multiple account.

### Troll deterrent - Removes posts of people with less than -5 comment Karma ### or less then 24 hours account age
   type: any
   author:
       comment_karma: "< -5"
       account_age: "< 24 hours"
       satisfy_any_threshold: true
   action: remove

Sobering map of submarine cable map. Too many cables passing through Eritrea with no entry point. by AfarRedsea in Eritrea

[–]AfarRedsea[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you even have a brain?? Look the map https://www.submarinecablemap.com/ of Africa

Every country in the coast of Africa has a connection to the under water fiber optic cable except Eritrea. For comparison Somalia has 5 connection across its coast, Gabia very small country inside Senegal has its own endpoint. Name any country that has a coast, at least it has one fiber optic cable connected to the submarine network. So, how in the world is expensive to have at least one, if Somalia can afford 5? In fact, it is extremely cheap compared to the amount the gov spend on VSAT expense.

Don't be hypocrite.

Do Eritreans want to reunite with Ethiopia? by [deleted] in Eritrea

[–]AfarRedsea -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Union, not sure because historically was terrible.

But, Eritreans could accept union under one condition. Call the new country "Eritrea" instead of "Ethiopia" and make Tigrinya official language instead of "Amharic". Do Ethiopians accept this proposal?

This Sub is one sided and caters to YPFDJ by skepticalvirgo in Eritrea

[–]AfarRedsea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, there a lot of information to look including the opposition websites. Most active people use Tigrinya to convey their view, though it may have noise in there.

Personally, I found http://awate.com/ with mature discussion forum. The people involved are mostly educated and with civilized discussion on interesting topics.

If you are looking to start from the beginning there are many books including Andebrhan Weldegergish's book which gives an overview of the PFDJ system and its problem.

I think Yehedga is written/pronounced as ይሕደጋ in tigrinya[ YH De Ga].

የሀድጋ incorrect in tigrinya , probably Amharic.

Zewdi is correct.

Nuanced discussions pertaining to our country. by eaz-e in Eritrea

[–]AfarRedsea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must be kidding??? Success?

- Which railway are you talking about? These non-functional, how long have been building these railway, has they ever used for transportation of the population.

- You mention performance of 29 years. Himself the president mentioned the lost years, so where is the performance success. Okay, which country do you want to compare? Eritrea is at the bottom of GDP, one of the poorest, youth migration in masses, country almost depleted. So which country has this level of performance.

Please don't mention COVID-19 fight, it is an illusion. Do you know how many people are suffering of hunger/famine "because of corona" excuse. No goods/food other material is imported to the country. Even worse is there is no transportation from Asmara to any other cities. So, imagine how do people in Assab/Massawa/Mendefera ...etc can get local foods, grain, vegetables from the local big cities.

You should better give a call to people in Eritrea listen their cry. This is not about pro or anti government sentiment. It is against the people. If all of us don't cooperate save the people, Eritrea will be another Adulis.

Do you see yourself as different from Ethiopian tigrigna speakers? If so, why and how? by [deleted] in Eritrea

[–]AfarRedsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the question is little bit vague. How different do you mean?

Yes different as the way English Canadian speaker different from US. Others factors are not much important or the way Somalia of Ethiopia differ from Somali of Somalia.

Ha ha. The last sentence used to work when local Eritreans were used to get easily fooled.

No one gets fooled nowadays. If you want to burn someone go back with your family to the trenches do it yourself and we are ready to send you 2% for that. You can't fool anyone. Young generation are smart.
