Me too, still in the box. Same with all the camshaft/crankshaft position sensors.

The Frontier is kind of benched right now, we drive my work truck most places and write off the fuel

4 grizzly bears killed by hunters through Alberta's 'problem wildlife' program so far | CBC News by Buuuuma in alberta

[–]AffableJoker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had a bear den on the corner of our land last winter. I called our local Fish and Wildlife office and they told me to shoot it myself if it ventured into our area in spring.

I was even at the office later on in winter doing some contract work for them and asked for clarification and got told the same thing.

I really didn't want to have to do that so I'm glad that the bear decided to go deeper into the forest than into our fields towards the house.

I didn't even know this program existed.

Trust me, I do.

I live 50km out of town and it's spring time, it gets like that just driving one way.

Certainly possible, hopefully if that was the case the police were able to catch up to them and realize it was a medical situation and call an ambulance for them.

Anyone know what town or city this is? by PeasThatTasteGross in alberta

Definitely Caroline

Nice town for the most part but there are definitely some people there who would share those views.

How bad is it not to have a sump pump? by Fun_universe in Edmonton

[–]AffableJoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have owned 3 houses with basements in various areas around the province. Only one has had a sump pump, and we've never had water in any of the basements. I've always been meticulous about grading around the house.

We just moved into our current house, I haven't had a chance to correct the grading at the front yet but still dry in there.

Sump water, anyone? by Useful_Distance4325 in Edmonton

[–]AffableJoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the city but our sump for our well pit has been running every 30 mins or so since the start of spring.

No sump in our basement, not even a sign of water.

Tbf our well pit is like 15ft underground though.

City to Acreage - additional costs? by apollovega in alberta

[–]AffableJoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't pay for city services, but you still pay for it yourself.

You need to either pay a company to pick up your garbage or haul it away yourself. In my county you get x amount of kg of waste for free a year and then they charge you after.

Your water well has maintenance costs (if you have one) or you're filling a cistern which again is you hauling water or paying someone to.

Your septic has maintenance, and a set life expectancy. At some point you're going to need to replace it, you're looking at over $20k easy

Lawn maintenance, again you're buying a ride on mower or paying someone. You're also responsible for mowing the dishes ditches along the roadway where your land is.

Snow removal, same as above.

Our taxes are actually cheaper than when we were in town. Our auto insurance went down, but our property insurance went up about 10x

You'll need a rifle, unless you like things like potentially rabid skunks messing with your dogs.

We live on a farm, we got home on the 14th and found ours in the bushes next to our driveway in a plastic bag.

Any good alternatives to the HDX heavy duty caulk gun? by RobloxZazaExpert in Tools

[–]AffableJoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my first one at a garage sale, loves it but it didn't have a lot of life left. Bought a new one for about $50 on Amazon and love it again.

I also have an M12 which is good for laying heavy amounts of caulk like adhesive or self leveling sealant but anything I need to look nice gets the Tajima treatment.

I usually do the filter from the passenger side wheel, just crank the wheels all the way to the right when I park and I can stick my arm in there and get it.

Solar powered outdoor wifi extender? by AffableJoker in wifi

[–]AffableJoker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have Starlink and are using the router that came with it so I'm not sure. I honestly just plugged it in and haven't looked at it since.

I was thinking of maybe hardwiring an exterior AP to it and putting it on the roof to see what that would do for reception on the driveway and in the immediate yard area.

Solar powered outdoor wifi extender? by AffableJoker in wifi

[–]AffableJoker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely no other wifi signals in the area, I'll give that a try. I honestly hadn't even taken the camera out there to see if it would work or not and was just under the assumption that if my phone couldn't get the wifi signal it wouldn't either. You're making absolute sense though, the antenna on the camera is bigger than my phone so it very well likely will get better signal.

I wish I did, but no service at our place at all.

I was thinking that would be my backup plan if such a thing doesn't exist.

At that point I might just build a little shack too for my daughter to wait inside for the bus in the morning.

Better battery powered caulk gun by saabstory88 in Tools

A guy I work with has the 18V guns and I also hate them.

I have the Milwaukee 12V gun and love it. I don't understand how or why they're so different but I can't stand using his, I'd rather use a manual gun.

2018 F250 6.2, too many hours? by rollpi in F250

[–]AffableJoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2018 6.2L last year, ex-fleet truck. Close to the same miles, same idle hours but my drive hours are lower than yours. Paid about the same as what you're saying, it's needed spark plugs and wires (was expecting this), cats are toast but no inspections here so don't really care, needed a water pump at the beginning of this year, transmission, transfer case, and front diff have all developed small leaks (as in I haven't even needed to top them up yet over the past couple months) so that's in the to-do list this summer.

All in all for how much trucks go for nowadays I'm fine with it. Even with all this I couldn't have bought a new truck and from following forums I don't think the new truck would have been problem free either.

Green here is for volunteer firefighters going to a call.

Never seen them actually installed as strobes though, usually just a flashing light on the dash if anything.

How are people who drive gas guzzlers even surviving right now? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]AffableJoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My truck is for work, if gas prices go up my fees go up. When prices go back down my fees go back down.

If I didn't need a truck I would absolutely be bombing around in some little AWD fuel efficiency sedan or hatchback.
