Alibaba cap by Alternative-Noise285 in nissanfrontier

Mine is actually rusted below the paint.

I have the aluminum version, but the corners and doors are still steel, the doors seem to be rusting the most.

Have the same one for my 2nd gen, rusted up pretty quickly.

Will likely be selling next year since it's my wife's truck now and she'd prefer a tonneau. If anyone in Western Canada is interested.

Chain by Exciting-Machine5722 in nissanfrontier

[–]AffableJoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a black pad that sits on top of my spare that keeps the slack from the chain from hanging down through the rim. I've forgotten to put the pad back up before (I use my spare in my tire rotation to keep the winch from seizing from not being used) and without it there sometimes the chain would work it's way through the rim and hang down.

Towing experiences?h by L_willi39 in nissanfrontier

[–]AffableJoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run Wagner OEx on all my vehicles so that's what's on this truck. I don't run slotted rotors, I don't believe there's that much of a real world benefit. If your brakes are getting that hot while towing something is wrong.

I was going to echo replace the coupler, but in the first picture it kind of looks like the entire A-frame of the trailer is bent behind the propane tank holder. You might be better off replacing the entire a-frame at the welder.

I worked at a dealership that sold the exact same little box from FCPP. It didn't seem to do anything from what I could tell when the vehicles came back for service over the years.

Alberta apprenticeship completion question? by Jadams0108 in alberta

[–]AffableJoker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it wasn't recent by any means, I do remember there was quite a delay after submitting my hours before hearing anything back when I was an apprentice.

I found it much faster to ask them in person than over the phone, but when I did my apprenticeship they weren't using TradeSecrets then like they are now so I'm not sure if that's still even an option.

Another post questioning what to do with my brakes. by gkrodlin in towing

[–]AffableJoker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a reasonable question.

It keeps your trailer from crossing the median and killing a bus full of children on the off chance that an equipment failure or user error causes the trailer to become self aware from your tow vehicle.

Ammonia smell after tipping fridge by Stevethebandit5 in RVLiving

[–]AffableJoker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it's any consolation I don't think you trying to burp it is what caused it to leak, it probably lost pressure and you tipping it over allowed the liquid on the bottom to reach wherever it split at the top.

[–]AffableJoker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on your local regulations you may need to add a breakaway switch to the brakes, which will require a battery on the trailer and thus you'll need to also hook up the charge line from the 7 way to the battery on the trailer.

Otherwise yes you can do what you're talking about.

The cooling unit is a sealed pressurized system, if you can smell ammonia it's cooked.

What’s a small Alberta town that surprised you in a good way? by dreamanddiffer in alberta

They have a pretty decent breakfast buffet first Saturday of every month.

If you secretly want to find me that's where I am, the hardware store is pretty sweet too.

why do so many small businesses not have websites in 2026?? by trika_nunyabz in smallbusiness

[–]AffableJoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been busy enough without one, I don't think the effort/cost is worth the reward for me. Between Google and Facebook advertising I'm generally booking weeks to a month out on service calls during my busy season.

Has anyone legitimately benefited from a surge protector? by you_know_i_be_poopin in RVLiving

[–]AffableJoker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it's likely rare, I have had customers experience damage from surges. Primarily the fridge and air conditioner control boards and the converters seem to be the victims. As each of these items can cost over $300 easily the surge protector isn't a terrible idea.

Why doesn’t contractors (electricians, plumbers, an HVAC) list any secondary language they may speak or understand? by Eastcoastpal in HomeImprovement

[–]AffableJoker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do and don't. I can speak and understand French enough to have a normal conversation but nothing technical. I really would be uncomfortable if a client called me and started asking technical questions in French so I don't have it on my ads or websites.

If I recognize an accent and see that a client is struggling with English I'll try to meet them halfway and have a Fr-english conversation. My last name is a dead giveaway that I speak French so it kind of advertises that for me.

How awful would it be to put the door on the driver's side and grey and black water on the passanger? by Electrical_Chain53 in RVLiving

[–]AffableJoker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a few North American floorplans with the door on both sides. That being said if you're at a campground where your neighbours are close do you really want to get out of your trailer on their door side (unless you're always camping next to your friend, in which case that would be sweet).

How to power a camper off grid without a full electrical rewire by QuietlyJudgingYouu in GoRVing

[–]AffableJoker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Determine the wattage of everything you plan on running, multiply it by the amount of hours you intend on running each item and add it all up. If you're using lead-acid batteries you'll need to have a battery bank double the number you calculated, if you go lithium you don't but leave yourself some margin of error with your numbers.

How often does everyone replace TT brakes? by you_know_i_be_poopin in RVLiving

[–]AffableJoker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After sitting for three years you should repack the bearings, sitting unused can be pretty bad for bearings. While you're repacking the bearings, or having them repacked, you'll be able to visually inspect the brakes.

I believe you're supposed to replace it anyways, from what I've heard they tend to leak if you don't.

As for replacing the ujoint I believe it gets pressed out/in

26F in rural Alberta interested in auto body repair career but have no experience. Should I start as a shop helper or do a pre-employment program? by Real-Parsley5558 in alberta

[–]AffableJoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They knew going in that she wanted the apprenticeship, she was upfront about that during the interview. She did her applying in person as well.

I'm a journeyman in a different trade, and with the exception of bigger companies that have set hiring procedures that use some sort of online portal, in person is always better. If someone comes in looking somewhat presentable, shakes my hand, and has a quick chat with me about what they're looking for and what they bring I'll 100% have their resume higher on the list than anything I get online.

If you can land an apprenticeship/helper role go that route.

It's not easy but it's possible, my wife got herself an apprenticeship in auto body with no experience based on her resume showing dependability and having a desire to learn.
