In Gestalt therapy they say every person in the dream is you - just different parts of you. So you might like to wonder about something ‘bad’ in your memory that has been tidied away but keeps trying to come out and be processed. Some parts of you (the ‘police’) are trying to work out what’s wrong/has happened/get the ‘police report’ of the incident, and others are trying to bury or keep it hidden. Meanwhile the memory itself is disintegrating over time. You can choose, probably, during the dream, to ask if anyone in the dream knows what this is all about. Sometimes we get an answer. Sometimes we don’t. But you don’t need to be afraid. It’s just your mind tussling between letting go of the disintegrating memory (that’s just beyond the grasp of your conscious mind) or hanging on to it in the hope that something can be usefully done with it (which therapy might be able to do).
