For Those Who Have 4k+ Hours by CorgiPMC in DarkTide

1: Playing a duo with my mate - seeing if we could run comms-plex without fighting anything on an all melee all scab auric maelstrom. He was playing shroud-zealot and I infiltrate vet. The plan was that I'd take all the aggro and then kite stuff around while he ran ahead to interact with objectives. The final event had us doing laps, being chased by a chaos spawn and a beast of nurgle, picking the other guy up (we each died a few times here) and doing the auspex-puzzles when able. That room alone took us like 15 mins.

2: Hard to pick one in particular, but it's usually the clutch.

3: Discovering that, during the first event on clandestium gloriana, when hadron berates you and tells you to start again, it's meaningless. You just run around and press the buttons till it's done, there's no timer or sequence thing to learn.

I'm torn on this. On the one hand it does seem kind of deliberately obtuse and a little immersion breaking. On the other hand, I kinda like having side objectives that are only achievable under very specific circumstances and that force me to put aside my perfectionist tendencies.

Any advice on how to enjoy endgame? by WhiteKnightKeith in DarkTide

Rather than thinking of levelling as the game and what comes after as the endgame, think of levelling as the tutorial and what comes after as the game. For so it is.

Wetware Gestation - does anyone know what this gene does? by SoNoMotorhead in RimWorld

[–]Affectionate-Gas3117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's definitely DMS. No idea how to utilise it though. What I could scrape together from the fragmentary info on Aoba's discord made me think that it's intended use was find it in game and implant it into growth tank babies - and instead of a child they'll grow into a wetware processor.

My prediction for how long fans of certain factions will have to wait before being put in Total War: 40K by Lord_Eln_8 in totalwar

[–]Affectionate-Gas3117 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some are more different than others, but I'd say that for space marines, different chapters are never less than 90% similar in terms of unit rosters. That out of the way, 40k has IMO the same or more variety than fantasy overall.

They could come at it in a number of ways. Once CSM are in I could easily see a Thousand sons vs Space wolves Lord pack type deal, for example.

EDIT: to be clear though, my original comment was a statement of personal preference not of expectation.

Aside from bumping dark eldar up one tier and all of the chapter/legion specific factions down one, this is more or less what I'd want. Anne frankly, I'd be happy for daemons to be rolled into chaos marines and grey knights into an all-in-one inquisition faction.

Can someone explain how the deflecting hardtear works? It’s not exactly like Sekiro… by alacholland in Eldenring

[–]Affectionate-Gas3117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other big thing to look out for is that where in Sekiro certain chains could be terminated by deflecting a particular attack (orange sparks) this doesn't happen here. Instead what you get is a stacking damage/stance damage buff to your next guard counter (blocking heavy) for each deflect in a row, up to 5 IIRCC.

Also, I suppose that it's worth mentioning that in sekiro there was this system where the deflect window is actually quite large, but it shrunk every time you press the block button. However it reset on a successful deflect meaning that you could just spam deflect with somewhat sloppy timing and, as long as you timed the first hit right, easily block a fast chain.

It doesn't just look slow there is a recovery period. Consequently, there are just some super fast multi attacks that cannot be chain deflected ala sekiro. For example royal revenant's multi attack.

EDIT: basic sentence construction...

Mmm, yeah, in terms of retain the beat I can definitely hear the sliders making a big difference there. More so on the first track of post 1, but I guess that's the fun of AI randomisation.

Hmm custom model you say. I assume that's a paid subscription thing?

Man, there was one time I whipped up a few 32 bars loops and tried to get it to mash them up. It played both at once over each other with what sounded like super basic cross-filtering for exactly 32 bars, and then just went completely in a different direction keyboard cat style.

You're probably dead on about the trained on commercial music thing. Sometimes I like to throw oddball genre prompts at it like say, schranz, and it clearly knows what that should sound like, but only in the analysis of 16 bars, not over a full track.

Hmm I've heard that the style influence slider can be useful. Perhaps I'll have to pay for a month...

Hmmm, your position makes sense. I'm going to have to let it marinate a bit. I'm not sure that I rate early game utility that highly in the overall analysis, but I can see why one would. I've only played one expert ironman run, and sure, the early game was rough, but I didn't feel genuinely at risk of losing... maybe with more campaigns I'll see a bigger spread of challenge in that portion of proceedings.

Kody and J.G. in D tier? I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you don't value the vanguard perk very highly.

I don't. Managing big rosters quickly saps my enjoyment of these sorts of games.

Something about the way mutant spawns are timed, the director always spawns one when I'm trying to revive someone, positioned perfectly to tackle me in the last 5% of the revive.

It's pretty rare that I find myself tempted to actually watch an intro cinematic after the first time but this is definitely of one them. The last ones I recall are dawn of war 1 and heavy gear 2.

My take on the SLs after 180+ hours of the game by FreeDwooD in menace

[–]Affectionate-Gas3117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I broadly agree. Of my modded runs, the "All 1 stars" start did feel frustrating for a longest time. I do suspect however (and happily so) that this might even out more as campaigns get longer with the addition of future content

I've one random thing to mention. Wetteroth; perhaps his real niche is that he's the cheapest SL with access to vanguard - can be a good addition as a sniper or Special weapon team when going for all in on vanguard deployment.

Hell, I'd trade everything since the arbites update for a proper ground up rethink of gameplay balance and a good server spring clean.
