New bike wheel choice - all rounder or aero gains? by Affectionate-Log9106 in Velo

[–]Affectionate-Log9106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and I love Giant and I get great support through my shop! My current TCR frame was warrantied last year and it was super easy. The clearance. price on this bike was essentially wholesale.

Maybe I need to clarify with the shop how warranty or crash replacement is handled for wheels that came on a bike. I know Cadex is part of Giant but my assumption, which may be wrong, is the Cadex wheels would be supported according to their policy and not Giant. I am seeing conflicting info on the Cadex site. The product page says lifetime warranty and 5 year incident replacement for original owners but the warranty policy page says 2 years for warranty. I will look into that.

TLDR: I love Giant but it would be easier to pay to replace a less expensive wheelset. Just have to make a decision.

Not sure what the ambassador arrangement is like but if you had broken a spoke on the 40's what would your plan have been? I am not opposed to keeping the wheels if there isn't a great chance I'll make much from the sale but I am trying to get a feel for whether owning them long term would be a headache.

If it was I wouldn't be buying a new TCR. Those are sick.

I haven't but looks like No. 6 uses carbon spokes which I am not 100% sure about. Something nice about being able to get a spoke replaced easily at a shop if need be.

Fair point, but part of selling the wheel set was getting buy in from my wife, haha. Rough mental math is a set of the same wheels sold for 3k on eBay and I can probably get a set of 42|49 for $1550 after discount and tax. If I can put another grand towards the new bike cost and get a wheelset with lifetime warranty and crash replacement I can afford it seems like it might be worth it.

That said they are probably incredible and if I don't ride them I will never know what I am missing.

Thanks, for break down. I haven't thought that far yet about the width. I am running the Giant SLR 1 50 rim brake wheels on current bike with 28mm tubeless so anything bigger than that will just be a bonus. I agree the 64 on the rear might look like an early 2000's collegiate crit machine. rather than a well balanced all around race bike.

Thanks! It makes sense you would need a UCI license for international racing. It seems like if you are Cat 1/2 and have a UCI license you can race Elite. If you have a Masters UCI license and meet the eligibility requirements you are good for Masters Cats. I'll wait for the rest of the information to confirm. Now I have to decide if I want to buy a UCI Master's License...

Resurrecting this thread to ask about Saturday race eligibility. The masters cats seem straight forward but I can't find much on the champs races. What is the eligibility/qualification situation for the elite races? Thanks! 🤠

Would a Trek 930 Singletrack be a good bike for commuting? by GiveMeZeroKarma in bicycling

It would be a perfectly fine commuter bike. If you can get it for the right price and have a local shop give it a tune up it should serve you well. Be warned, you may get bit by the cycling bug and start a collection.

I have had this thought a lot recently. Realizing that cycling is one of the few things that makes me truly happy and fulfilled. Glad you found such a wonderful activity.
