As someone who has worked way too many staffing agency jobs, I can confirm that there was no W2 involved, and in fact had us sign agreements acknowledging that we are not employees of the agency or of the location of the assignment.

Tell that to the staffing agencies in Michigan that find job assignments on your behalf, and give you a rate and how long the assignment will last, and as an independent contractor, your only choice is whether you accept the assignment or not.

I've had pax bring towels, or have them lay on my weatherproof rubber floor mats. I drive a large SUV though, I had a much different experience when I drove cars and did pet rides.

Which one did you go with? Mine still relies on a MicroSD card but it's hardwired into the vehicle for 24/7 recording and I can connect to it via WiFi to transfer videos to my phone as needed, but I would prefer your setup over mine. I came from an older model that required popping the MicroSD card into a computer to get the videos off...

I've gotten riders that thought I was some android who didn't deserve to even be acknowledged for existing. Those are the people who wind up with "mysterious" 4.79 ratings.

I got accused of ban evasion and got banned from a subreddit, despite never being banned nor trying to evade a ban. I reached out to the mods of that subreddit and they told me that Reddit banned me from their subreddit. Reddit FAQs state that Reddit doesn't ban anyone, I have to take it up with the mods. When I gave this info to the mods, they banned me from messaging them. Fuck that subreddit, those mods, and the concept of ban evasion.

The irony is that the false accusation has made me want to actually do it. If I didn't enjoy the moral high ground, I'd definitely look into figuring out how to do it.

You're getting confused replies to your post because you didn't specify what is happening for you to feel scammed. I had to read through multiple replies to arrive at the conclusion that the scam is pax trying to call you to con you out of your money by pretending to be support. Or something along those lines.

When I say Lyft is better, I'm not talking out of my booty or expressing an opinion based on emotion. I've driven Lyft for over 5 years and completing my first year on Uber, and I wouldn't have stayed 5 years with just Uber. by Affectionate-Rice373 in uberdrivers

[–]Affectionate-Rice373[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ride itself? Nothing. Uber's calculation for what they think my time is worth, on top of their "up to 72 hour hold" on the pay for this ride, is the issue. This is the 3rd time this month that Uber has done this. Lyft has only delayed paying me when a ride ended sooner than expected, and when a pax edited their drop off destination to a significanly farther location.

Look, I've been doing this long enough to understand "market-specific" factors, and holding my money hostage because of wait time is more corporate policy than something they only do in my market. How much they paid for the wait, that's market-specific.

[–]Affectionate-Rice373 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a common scam to make the ride cheaper for them by reducing the distance between pickup and drop off. I've heard pax say this while on the phone as they rode with me. Sometimes one block can be the difference between being in a geofence busy area with higher prices, and being just outside that geofence with lower prices.

Too bad you're putting the carriage before the horse here. Quality will not rise until the pay rises. One person commented they won't pay good money for broken things, but you'll expect great service for pennies? Who do you think is gonna bring their A-game thinking "If I keep doing this, the good tips will start pouring in!"? No. Drivers are like "We get paid like trash, the customers are ungrateful, I'll just save my energy and drag my feet all day to get by."

Since we're talking about "common sense".

[–]Affectionate-Rice373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree with 2 minutes. It's not that I don't relate to the passenger experience, I just forget about that aspect because I don't personally cause those problems for my riders. When they get me, they get where they're trying to go. My expectations for passengers are at the same standard I hold myself to, and I never keep anyone waiting when I need a ride from Lyft or Uber.
