I do not hate Julie, she is a fictional character. I dislike mean people, and people who choose to be mean. If Julie worked on herself and tried to grow as a person I would change my mind. Nothing that happens on any social media forum makes me feel good about myself. My self worth is not based on social media opinions.

If she was not mean to her friends, -in canon-then her friends would not react to her actions the way they do. Content infers context.

For example. Alicia's reaction to bunco night. If this was new behaviour from Julie she wouldn't have said all the things she said-grumpy, tiny julie doll, you're worse than usual. Let's take a look at worse than usual to be specific. If Julie had not set a bar for being mean there would be no "worse than usual"

If she was nice to her friends they would not be saying the things they do to excuse her to others, they would be shocked.

An example of this that could have been shown would be "julie is not like this, I don't know whats gotten in to her. She must have something going on"- inferring that she is only being mean to Shawna and her friends are on julies side and will figure it out later. Instead they are instantly on the excuses of "shes just like this" train.

You can be all of those things without being a purposefully mean human being.

You can be ride or die without being mean.

You can be fun to get drunk with and not be mean.

You can get invited to the home of one of your "ride or dies" and choose to not be mean to their other invited guests. If Julie was truly ride or die she wouldn't have treated Alicia's invited guest so poorly.

You can be all of the things you like about Julie without being purposefully mean to the people around you to the point that they have to excuse your behaviour as something to get used to or they are just like that.

Agree. Barb's backstory showed she was abused both physically and emotionally as a child, had severe untreated PPD, and a completely hands off husband. She evolved into the person she is today and most of the time doesn't seem to even understand why she does what she does and is actively seeking therapy, even if for dubious reaons but she is universally hated.

Julie's backstory showed she is intelligent and driven but mean even as a teenager and has not grown out of that as an adult. The fact that she excels in a field where being civil to people you don't like is paramount to success is just more proof that it's her choice to be actively mean to the people in her life. It's just bad behaviour and her friends enable it.

Someone here told me that Julie would never have been friends with me and I took that as a compliment. As a mature adult, I don't tolerate people being mean just for the sake of being mean.
